Sprawling under Ukraine, The Odessa Catacombs with its vast network of over 2,500 kilometers of tunnels have been used to hide anyone from criminals, political dissidents, to partygoers. But where do rumours of hidden treasures made from solid gold, and dead bodies laying forgotten come from? Let’s get into it.

After playing vr and getting lost in a pitch black cave for literally two hours after my torch went out. I started to panic before realizing I could just take the headset off. I can't begin to imagine what itd be like if there was no headset.
That's actually horrifying how well people can get held in vr and think it's real for a while before you realize it's a game and your safe at home. But I have to wonder what game were you playing?
@@cezzy_1496 A Township Tale, I was on a low floor and all I could see while running were glowing eyes from the golems around. It was like my first day playing so I had no clue about anything in the game.

1:10: *happy and upbeat electric swing music*
I get whiplash from whenever the intro music plays
It's actually probably intended that way to keep even darker subject matter to have a lighter tone. People prob feel safe when they hear the familiar intro
LOL
I am so glad someone else said this.
@@frankmarano1118 I think the intro is disturbing, dark and has a tint of mystery
If you're ever trapped in a dark labyrinth; walk with a hand on the wall, don't take it off. You'll either find your way out or starve to death.
I'm pretty sure taking my hand off would be the last thing on my mind in a dark labyrinth, touching the wall or not.

We still need to explore the depths of the ocean, and we still don't know a lot about Antarctica under the ice...
We don't need to worry about whats under the ice, global warming is about to show us. Conversely the Ocean exploration will get more difficult.
Seriously though, I don't want to explore the deep ocean. as soon as light becomes scarce, everything living down there just gets terrifying.
Apart from the fact there's an ancient outpost and Stargate buried under that ice...

As someone that works with dead bodies often very decomposed, I can say without doubt that was a real human body. Postmortem drying, discoloration, and secretions are all visible in the appropriate places.
Definitely a real human body, but doubt that it's a woman based on the shoes.
Yeah, that is in fact a real decomposed dead body. At that point it probably didnt even smell anymore..
Yep, a brief Google search reveals two different angles of the same body and its got me convinced. Agree with the point about shoes, they look too large to be a typical woman's shoe, though granted its not impossible for it to be a womans shoe
Are all visible in the appropriate places.
@@carpetsomething Hey some of us are born with size 11 women's. You ever seen that episode of King of the Hill where Peggy has to go to a transvestite store to find good shoes? That happened to me IRL.

Ohh Guy everywhere!
See I'm trying not to cringe everytime someone says that you're everywhere. You ARE NOT.
but hi anyways
Any time I go exploring underground I take 2 battery powered flashlights and a 3rd "shaker light". A shaker light is a flashlight that is powered by a capacitor. You charge the capacitor by shaking the light that has a magnet and a coil.
It takes a lot of shaking to get the light to work, but so long as you can still shake it, you will have a reliable light source.
I've never needed the shaker light but I have needed the back up battery light a few times.
Seems like if you ever lack the energy....or a hand.... you might run out of luck and light. Try and find one where you just squeeze the handle
@@Murdermagictricks That doesn't work. You have to move the magnet through the coil.
They have lights you can wind up like an old watch, but they are not as reliable.
The shaker light is a back up to the back up. It is there just incase all else fails and needs to be as reliable as possible.
The chances of needing it are extremely remote, but the shaker light is not heavy and the penalty of having it is worth the very tiny chance you might someday need it.
I also use one as an emergency light encase of power failure. It can be used to find other lights if needed, but isn't all that useful outside of using it to find a candle and a lighter.
Pro tip: Always place Glowstone blocks or torches when venturing complicated caves
Who would waste glowstone on that? Torches are cheaper
@@ignis5628 a nether only run ig would make it worth more but since ur going to the overworld to get there i dont see a point in using torches too
In Minecraft, I use wood planks (stacked 2 tall), and put a torch on it pointing towards the exits.
It's generally worked pretty well for me since I started this system. XD
There's a more recent article I saw about an urban explorer guy there who's been mapping them, and now with the invasion he and others have been stocking them with supplies so the residents can shelter there if necessary
I was curious with the way how this is working. Thank you for the update
i was just wondering about that
The fact that Brew is a Digimon fan makes me happier than it should.
What is digigigigigimon , is it a copy of pokekekekmon or..
@@Ventbrise shut up
digimon is amazing
Same; my first reaction was to question if I’d actually heard correctly, as I’ve been back on another digimon drive and thought I might have imagined it.
My next thought was “wait, is he just fond of Gabumon or is he trying to say He’s a caffeine addicted 30 something year old Yamato Ishida?”
Pro tip: When lost in a maze, grab something to Mark the walls. Draw a line on it, until you come back to the beginning, (which means this is an independent wall, and then choose another, and do the same) until, you eventually find the entrance, from the outer wall of the maze. Time consuming, but the only sure way.
Thats not a sure way to avoid getting lost. The catacombs are pitch black. If your light goes out there's no way you would be able to see the marks you left on the walls.
You should not visit the Odessa catacombs at any time, and visiting Odessa at all right now is probabbly a very bad idea.
Here is wishing the Ukrainians good luck and strength.
I wonder if any Ukrainians are hiding in there right now…
The story I heard in the early 00's was of a rave in the catacombs and how a girl who was known to have been there wasn't noticed as missing for a few days and it was presumed she'd wandered off to pass out and not woken up until after all the people/equipment had gone...
I don't know why, but I even though I'm terrified I still enjoy these types of videos

@@eeveequeen15 I wouldn’t consider a fear of death a “phobia”. Death is a pretty rational thing to fear, haha
I grew up in odesa, there used to be one spot I had that entered to catacombs and wasn't in a popular area. They eventually closed off many entrances and with time the one I knew of got covered too.
thank god they did! When i was growing up(I'm 20 now) it was so easily accessible and kids my age knew the places😁 good thing i was not "brave" enough to go with them😂
also i think they closed them because homeless people were living there
@@sabakurou_ ah im 28 now, havent been back there in many years
I think the corpse as a real corpse is plausible; I imagine bodies turn up in those catacombs all the time. Odessa is a large enough city to have reasonably high crime demographics. However, "Masha" with no last name is suspect. Did her parents (or any other family member) ever come forward looking for their daughter? Or could she have been a homeless girl hanging out with students? Too many possibilities! And Russians (from my personal experience) have no problem with misleading people out of boredom/other. It's not surprising to me that there are so many conflicting stories.
Never thought I'd hear Brew mention gabumon
It's brew, he'd make popculture references and puns in the same paragraph
This is a lot more eerie knowing what’s going on in Ukraine and Odessa. I wonder how many people trying to flee down there and soldiers 😬

I don't know why the story of Masha wouldn't be real when people get lost in catacombs, quarries or really any sort of cavernous underground systems all the time.
Because its full of contradictions and there's no one to confirm anything about any version?
@@MegaRyuki I mean it really isn’t. Girl goes into catacombs with group of friends on new years, doesn’t come out. It’s pretty cut and dry.

Knowing about Odessa TX, and listening to the start of this without seeing the video till a couple minutes in, I was very confused.
I mean... Part of the issue is, as you pointed out, it's actually illegal to go exploring in what few places on earth there are left to be explored.
Too early for space, too late for distant lands, but just in time to explore and discover ourselves.
Wonder if it will survive the war, and how many people will get trapped down there hiding from Russian bombs
Brew always knows how to make stuff interesting
This place could come in handy now.
The Odessa catacombs are saving lives now.
2:50 there is another legend about the name of the city, which comes from the word “assedo”, it means “no water”, but since Odessa is a city at the coast of a Black Sea, Ekaterina the II-nd flipped the “assedo” to “Odessa”, even though assedo also can mean “no plain water that you can drink” but whatever, this one is just more popular and the one mentioned in the video can be true too, since greeks have been there.
Brew: “I’ll let this wording slide this one time”
Also brew: called a small scale illness outbreak a “localized pandemic” 😂
Also brew in the episode about caffeine overdose: “one milligram per coffee”
Covid if it happend back in early 20th century 1900s would of probobly been considered a cold
