As a pet-care person at a [chain pet store], our new care guides for goldfish and koi have been updated. The pamphlet explicitly says that goldfish need to be in a species only (cold water) tank with at least 20 gallons PER FISH, while koi require 240 gallons PER FISH. It even mentioned that keeping them in warmer water will cause them to create more waste. I was kinda shocked actually. But now it'd be easier to hand over more proper information to people who honestly aren't well informed about these animals. Edit: Forgot to add, Voodoo Zapps Chips are superior.
Single tailed goldfish do need a bigger tank size. They can get to 2 feet in a pond. Single tailed goldfish are pond fish. I recommended a minimum of 180 gallons. 300 gallons would be the best for 6 goldfish
I got sucked into this fishy place a year or so ago by now and a couple weeks ago I finally dumped $300 on the floor and turned it into a tank, a branch, and a rock! I'll hopefully be a shrimp mom next month all thanks to this YT channel!

Now they are in a 40 gal, 1 is about 9 inches long and I'm trying to figure out where to put the larger tank they're gonna need soon. Does my son need his own bedroom?!?! My favourite chips were a limited edition from Kettle brand: Moscow Mule. Seriously. Chips that tasted like a Moscow mule. Spiciness from ginger, a hint of lime, hint of mint and just slightly sweet. I fully admit to how weird they were but I loved them.

4:35 i work in a bosleys and i manage the aquarium section, i put little info cards on every tank with vital facts about every species. I always include their adult size, minimum tank size, their lifespan, minimum school size, and other care requirements like snails need a source of calcium, dont keep more male than female livebearers, etc. Wish more people did this!
5:11 by the price tags it looks like a Petco. Most of those employees there are actually pretty knowledgeable, except for one who didn't put air in the bag and another for some reason tried to catch a fish that likes hiding in rocks with the water container, not a net. She had the move all the rocks in the tank a TON and I swear she crushed a few of the fish in their multiple times, including the one I was buying. I did research before hand, my tank was well established, several other fish had lived in their for multiple months, but that fish died a few days after I bought and I almost never saw it. RIP psuedochromis.

I missed the video of the qotw in the intro so I will say the panda cory is my favourite corydora. For this weeks qotw, its a toss up between Doritos Cool Ranch and Doritos Sweet Chili heat and I often mix the two in a big bowl

Ive had to get rid of 100 pounds of substrate. It started developing a gross film making the water cloudy. No amount of substrate vacuuming would get rid of this film. It scared me and I should have kept my 55 up and running im sure my oscar would have been okay in the 55 for a couple hours. My mistake killed $400 worth of fish in a 125 gallon. Just goes to show that even after 17 years in the hobby, you can still make a mistake. It saddened me so much, I deleted everything off my youtube cichlid page and vowed to not upload again until I start fresh
I was just doodling around on amazon looking for fish supplies I'll never get (cuz im broke) and I came across the tetra airpump. Me being me I went straight to the review section to see the pictures and videos of peoples tanks and setups. And what I found just broke my heart. This lady posted a 5 star review along with a video of her fish. She had an entire CICHLID in a small 2-3 gallon tank, it literally couldn't even move. And she was like "Just updated my fishes tank with this air pump and I love it! Works great and my fish is happy!". That literally just made me so mad, like humanity is getting worse by the day.
The tank with the goldfish measurement and lifespan info was in a petco, marineland systems working with petco long enough I can spot it from a mile away lol

Ok so… I did a thing that you would maybe not approve of. I bought a piece of artificial decor for my tank. It’s not THAT bad though. You know those natural looking cichlid rocks? I figured they were round, no sharp edges so I got them for my betta and he LOVES them. He is in a well conditioned 5gal tank. By the way, I want to change the substrate to sand, but I don’t know if that is to big of a change at one time.
Not your exact situation, but bits and pieces might be helpful. About two years ago I upgraded my betta fish from their five gallon tanks to new 10 gallons with a new sand subsrate and it actually went a lot better than I expected! I took my fish out of their current tanks and disturbed the gravel a bunch, then saved some of the gross looking water from that. I used mostly the same filter media so I had some beneficial bacteria from that as well. I put the new sand and nasty water I saved into the new tanks and then added fresh dechlorinated water to top it off as I would a 50% water change. If you're really worried you could always add more filter media, a sponge filter, or make a spawning mop and let it hang out in there for a month or two to have more beneficial bacteria so the swap puts less potential strain on your ecosystem. Since you said your tank was well conditioned/established I don't think that would be necessary, but it could make it less anxiety inducing. Personally, my water parameters stayed pretty consistent and stable throughout the next few months after the upgrade as I did regular water changes. Hopefully this helps at least a little! Also, I think I have that same decor item and my bettas love it too. The paint still hasn't chipped even a little!
I work at an aquarium and I get so many people coming up to me saying their parameters are suddenly going wack, they have a cloudy tank despite it being old etc. first thing I ask is "Do you deep clean your tank?", most time they say yes. The way I explain to them how that is actually bad, is telling them they basically reverse the cycle when they "scrub the tank squeaky clean". I also had someone who used bleach and then wandered why all their fish died (discus too).
