    Got my 5th tank for Christmas! I’m 15 and love the hobby. Water change every Sunday, water tests on Fridays. I have autism and this is my special interest which I love cuz it means my fish are well taken care of since I’m soooo in to the science and love doing maintenance. New tank is a 10g, White sand with Fluvial stratum under it, drift wood (spider wood), real rock, lots of annubius and other plants. Once cycled it will be for a pea puffer!

    Chris, I heard you once said while building Tamagos tank I heard you once say:"Imagine if somebody got a 125 gallon tank and put plants and only neon tetras" or something like that. Well Chris I thought: "Hmm that is a good idea for a 100 gallon tank. But, instead of neons I put lambchop rasboras(yeah I think the names for rasboras are ussually lame)". So after weeks, I finally did it.

    • @drewzero1
      @drewzero1 Год назад

      Lamb chop rasboras are probably my favorite schooling fish (with the possible exception of white cloud minnows). I've never seen any aggression from them, they school tightly, they're easy enough to find without being overplayed, and the color is hard to beat. The bright shimmering orange really pops against a tank full of green plants.
      How many did you get in there? I bet they're really stunning in a big group in a big planted tank.

    Interestingly, when I see videos of professional aquaponic systems, the fish are usually enormous salmon or similarly sized monsters that are crammed into a tank far too small to keep them healthy long term, albeit in a much larger overall water system. However, they are usually using food grade fish which they remove, sell and replace after a couple weeks.

    so glad your crested gecko is doing well, my cat broke into mine’s cage (i put aluminum foil on top to keep them off but orange cats gonna do orange cat things) and he messed my crested up a little bit. i’m hoping he’ll pull through, seems to be doing ok about a week later, but i’m upset that he dropped his tail after having him for about 10 years. he has some scratches and a tiny prolapse coming from his cloaca, i’ll give him another week or two to see if he improves and if not i’ll be forced to euthanize him

    Waiting on some new amanos and floating plants to come in and super hype! Can't wait to watch everything grow!
    And my favorite thing about Christmas is spending time with loved ones. This year was different since mom got sick so I didn't get to see my family. My boyfriend invited me for dinner with his family and it was so great! I got to try beef Wellington for the first time (absolutely 🔥🔥🔥), played bingo and won a blanket, and we played something called wonderball/doubles. The game is pretty much where you have to open a ball made of Saran wrap and it's loaded with prizes, you have to open it with oven mitts or gloves on as fast as you can to get prizes, the person next to you has to roll a pair of dice and get doubles as fast as they can and you keep going until they get doubles and pass it to them. It really helped me get into the spirit after feeling sad about not seeing my own family.

    *EMERGENCY!!!* i and my sister own two betta fish, a male dumbo and female koi. They both live in 3.5 gallon filtered tanks. I live in the southeast so even tho didn't yet have a heater our climate i thought was ideal. Recently there was a MASSIVE temprature drop so i decided to move the fish on our bathroom counter in two tuperwares next to a space heater. Today i walked into our bathroom and our floor was *wet.* so i go over and realize MY DUMBO'S TUPERWARE IS KNOCKED OVER. turns out my cat got to the fish and decided to strike and... You know, do what cats do. After an *extremely* frantic search i found my beloved dumbo on the floor completely still. I rushed him to his tank and while he is still mobile, he's extremely slow and lethargic (if i jad to guess, from shock), he has massive tears in his fins, visible wounds on his body though i dont think anything too deep for what it's worth, and i suspect at least one of his eyes were severely injured because he really doesnt seem to be aware of his surroundings. It's been around 15 minutes and i've set up a .5 gallon hospital tank with manually regulated water tempratures, one milliliter of stress coat, and 1/4 a teaspoon of aquarium salt. I am still a complete newbie in fishkeeping and although i have done research i have absolutely *no idea what i'm doing* 😭😭😭. I'm hoping to get some methelyne blue tomorrow, along with an actual tank heater and a bigger, at least 2 gallon hospital tank. PLEASE someone guide me i really don't want to lose my beloved smack!!!!

      I think you should check an actual fish-keeping forum, there should be plenty of discussion forums with people that had the same thing happen and with advice given in there. I don’t think this is the best place to be asking for serious medical advice for your fish since Chris is not in any way medically trained and has not indicated himself to be experienced in being able to help with these situations.

      Honestly no one can really help you 100% because each situation like this is entirely different. It depends partially on how long the fish was out of water and if the wounds get infected. You can do some prophylactic treatments for common bacterial agents if you think that’s helpful but they also may just end of stressing the fish more in the acute timeframe. He needs, as you said, a proper heater and a tank alone - do not put him with the other fish for now.

    I have a 33 gallon long. It’s 4 ft wide and I LOVE the tank. Unfortunately as I am reaching the end of my degree, I cannot maintain it anymore and I made the hard decision in moving most of my plants into a 10 gallon. That also meant I had to move the fish, 4 ember tetras, 5 khuli loaches, two neon tetras, and a single red eye tetra. If you’re asking why such weird numbers… many of my fish died when I neglected my tank. This is the main reason why I decided to downsize. I’m tempted to get rid of all the fish and just put a beta in there but I don’t know how to surrender my fish and I wish I had more time to maintain my big tank🥲

    So favorite thing of Christmas is just having my school break lol
    Also I just wanted to comment that I have two common goldfish, I’ve had them for almost a year now, they’re in a 20 gallon - v - I would love to relocate them since they’re growing quite big also I would NOT have gotten them AT ALL if not for them being rescues from a left over science experiment of one of my previous biology classes. I seriously do not like having them in the 20 gall, but I live in an apartment and I’m still in high school (plus the apartment I live is really small) and my mom is adamant to not allow me to get another bigger tank. My cousin was gonna take them once they got bigger but my aunt and uncle got divorced so, it’s not really an option (he was building like an actual p o n d, but yea :v) The goldie’s tank is empty except for some substrate and a couple plants, and I do water changes as often as I can, hopefully I’ll be able to build myself a nice outdoor tank soon (I have a very small backyard) without to much trouble from my mom cuz my goldfish seriously need an upgrade :,,) and if I do I’d love to get a betta or my tank be filled with guppies or some other type of schooling fish with tons of plants :3

    This is a great video! I was at my neighbour's house for a Christmas dinner and heard their kid talking about his betta fish and I really wanted to see it. I didn't want to bother anyone at first which was why I walked around trying to find the fish tank. After 7 minutes of searching I finally found the fish in this small fish bowl on a shelf with a plastic plant in it. I'm not a fish owner but the bowl literally looked like something my mom would put her flowers in and probably wasn't the best for the fish. I'm getting a fish soon but my mom only got a 2 gallon tank. What fish should I get for that tank?

After researching Leachies, gargoyles, and creaties, I had this image of their home that was mossy and thick, like Madagascar or Papua-New Guinea. Well, it’s not. New Caledonia is kind of sandy, sparse, and brambly…lots of dry wood piles and tall, dry grass. Not at all what I pictured!

      I don’t understand people who get animals knowing they can’t provide for it and that their parents aren’t willing to help, it just seems short-sighted. I think this person should find someone else who can properly house and care for the fish and should wait until they have an independent income before getting anything else.
