This is as close to a perfect duet as you will ever hear. This song was made for these two. Cheryl and Dan laid down the pipes on this song and the music is awesome. Goosebumps!
Cheryl Wheeler writes songs that smash through all the barriers and go straight to the heart. She takes heartbreak, joy, anger, peace, passion, indifference - and every other emotion one can feel - and gives them beautiful expression in her lyric and her melodies. Dan Seals gives this one the perfect voice.
I first heard this song when I was 4 and I’ve always cried when I heard this song and now I’m 21 and still cry. The BEST country song ever. Thank you Dan Seals, you are missed🙏🙏🙏
Oh Dan Seals, you are missed. This is, in my humble opinion, his finest vocal performance. And the song? A Cheryl Wheeler masterpiece. "Addicted" is from back in the day when country music was about stories that touched deep inside, that rattled our emotions and forced us to look at ourselves in the mirror. Listening to "Addicted" still gives me goose bumps. Oh Dan Seals, you are missed.
OH Mario Tarradell - There are times that someone writes something that just transcends. It gives you a very large window from which to view a very small moment in time that can mean so much to so many. This is one of those times. My tears applaud your penmanship. Not for the beauty that it's portrayed but because I too miss country music n the way that was. I'm a 90's country music baby and Garth, Allen, Toby, Dolly, Lorretta, Reba, Waylon and Willie, and of course George, ALL mark the walls of the home of my inner child. We do have Zac Brown and Chris Stapleton, and I think that they're doing a great job, but it'll never be like it was. No Hee Haw. no Duke Boys. No Lonesome Dove. Not even Louie L'amour can bring it back. I guess that's why they say that memories are the one true gift from God that death himself may not destroy. In my mind, those times certainly do live on. Oh Mario Tarradell, you have definitely blessed me tonight!
That's Dan Seals. Another wonderful talent taken too early. Cheryl Wheeler wrote the song, and Dan recorded it. It's my favorite song by Dan Seals. Dan sang every song sincerely. Dan was originally the England Dan of he and John Ford Coley Duo.
I just saw Cheryl Wheeler perform tonight in Berkeley, CA. She is one of my favorite live performers, such a rich singer-songwriter talent with humor as well as sensitivity and insight. Came to her website to look for more concert dates and found this gem of a duet. Beautiful! If you don’t know Cheryl Wheeler it is worthwhile poking around song links to hear her music. Tonight she sang her protest song about the guns and school shooting as well as her beautiful love song Arrow. She is a brilliant talent. RIP Dan Seals, such a rich voice and musical talent as well.
I had tickets to see Cheryl in New York about six months ago, and we got a notice that she had checked herself in to a mental health facility. I keep checking her website, and there still are no concert dates. I feel like I lost a friend.
ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MELODIES DAN EVER DID. GOD GIVES US ALL TALENT & A SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME TO CRAFT IT. EMOTION SET TO MUSIC--THE GIFT THAT DAN LEFT US ALL.
im a 90's dude. pac, biggie, swv, boys 2 men etc etc.....never heard of this kinda music before. THIS is music!!!! absolutely amazin, cheryl got some vocals for REAL. what a beautiful voice and vibrato. and dan....bruh is playing a right handed guitar upside down lol. thats unique. never seen that before. and his voice is amazing. this duet is worthy of my 90's ears!
what a great duet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! New Cheryl Wheeler fan (longtime Dan Seals fan) so glad to have stumbled upon this video while checking out Cheryl Wheeler's Facebook Fan Page...
I had no idea who wrote this song until now. Cheryl Wheeler wrote a masterpiece. I only knew of this song because of Dan's version (RIP Dan). Now that I know of Cheryl, I will seek more of her work. God Bless songwriters and singers.
Unbelievable. It's as perfect as the studio recorded version. The sol sung by Cheryl Wheeler (the composer) was not on the studio version. Glad they sang it here! :-) Thank you for posting this. RIP Dan. We miss you more than you know. :-(
Never heard it before, but snatched my heart right from chest...good thing I was alone, this tore me up! I love going back and finding real songs, with real gut wrenching meaning, these two, especially the lady was REAL !!
That "lady" wrote that song, many years ago. Her name is Cheryl Wheeler and she's one of the best songwriters in the U.S. She's recorded over 100 songs, but if you really want to experience her music, see her live.
"If she could bear to walk away, she thinks he wouldn't mind." Wow! Simple, powerful expression of the emptiness and frustrations of unrequited love. Some of the saddest words I've heard.
God Bless You, Cheryl Wheeler - When I lived on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard, I had all your (I hate to say this, but).. cassette tapes - lol showing my age - at least you were recorded after 8 tracks~! Yep, had one in my first car - a 1967 Chevelle!! Love you and your music!
I'm addicted to this version of the song :) Impressed with her simplicity as well - jeans and sweatshirt huh?! Today it would be unthinkable. Those were the days when talent and love to sing songs for the soul were above anything else, I guess.
One of the things I like about Cheryl Wheeler to this day is her "this is me" attitude. I've seen her perform in sweatpants, t-shirt and bare feet as well as jeans and a button down shirt. She just wears whatever and comes on stage and is herself with the audience and we don't care--just want to hear those amazing stories and beautiful and clever lyrics.
A sweatshirt and jeans would be absolutely fine on a male country singer. Cheryl has never identified with dresses and skirts, she has worn jeans and sweats all her life.
Everything about this song is brilliant. The story, melody, harmonies, vocalization, guitar work, humility, and lyrics. I'm not a professional music critic, singer, or musician but I know when a piece of music moves my soul. Unbelievably sad that we cannot thank Dan in person. Thank you, Cheryl. You deserve a share of all these accolades.
Story of my life …ages 17-23. So beautifully sad. But the heart wants what the heart wants. Married 47 years last May. ❤ i hung in because I could never risk that heartache again. RIP Dan…you and Ms Wheeler helped me survive those years. I was only 17 and found “the one”. I think men and women “love” differently. I love too much, and that kind of love never goes away.
I didn't realize until just now that he had passed. Such a loss for the country music community! I always loved his songs and his sweet delivery. RIP Mr. Seals.
I always like hearing the singer who had a big hit with someone else's song share the stage with the songwriter and do it as a duet in front of a live audience. Most people in the audience probably knew the Dan Seals' record but had never heard Cheryl's version.
If you're wondering what Cheryl is referring to when she says "can't take any of the good ones with us, anywhere we go." The good ones are their guitars.
one of my all time favorite songs and singers. So sad he is no longer with us. His contributions to country music have gone unnoticed to everyone but his fans.
This is absolutely tremendous. Thanks to Mr. Woods and You Tube I have discovered that Cheryl Wheeler and Dan Seals collaborated. A tremendous song. To see this is to bring me back to another era, to be bathed in total honesty.
I have lived this song, every bit of it, her memory still haunts me to this day. She is gone now, having succumbed to cancer, she passed away not knowing how much I truly loved her, still do to this day. A never ending memory of what might have been is all I have left.
If only half of the artists from nowadays could harness even half of the passion of the artists of yester day… How much better would country music be…?
In July 1988, I watched Dan Seals on Nashville Now performing this masterpiece lefty and he was playing guitar right- handed, while on the sofa talking to Ralph Emery after the performance. Dan Seals was ambidextrous and one of the best vocalists and composers. What a beautiful song Cheryl Wheeler wrote.
As much as I love music I'm not sure I've ever heard this before, came across it as I'm looking up Dan seal videos, and this Cheryl person can't say I've ever heard of her but wow, I love her voice and the emotion in her voice and they sounded great together!
I've always loved this song. They are great together and Cheryl Wheeler is such an amazing talent. Love her voice, her songwriting and the emotion she puts into both. I feel every word she sings. unfortunately, these lyrics are alittle too close to heart right now.
This can hit home really hard if you lived it. Beautifully written/arranged and performed -- RIP (England) Dan -- thank you for your beautiful music. Cheryl Wheeler, thank you for writing it....for without a songwriter there can be no amazing song..... Cheri B.
BEFORE HE PASSED AWAY , HE HAD A CONCERT HERE IN CEBU CITY , PHIL. AND I WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO SEE THE CONCERT OF ONE OF MY FAVORITE SINGER. R.I.P. DAN SEALS
Huge Dan Seals fan going into basic training at age 18. About four weeks in, (fort leonard wood) standing in the chow line, this tune comes softly over the radio piped in. Never hearing it before, I nearly lost my mind! Mighty hard to stay calm with eyes forward in silence. Just 4 notes in.. I once again stand in that chow line. "AWESOME".
Cheryl is one of the best writers, ever. And this song and performance, just incredible! When so much real talent lines up - you know you're in for something completely fantastic ! Thank you ! (and, yes, you can play upside down and backwards as I do, and Dan did so well !)
One of the most underrated talents out there. Saw her several times in the small, ‘personal’ venues in the NE area, her stomping grounds. Always a wonderful show. She always made time to get up close & personal w/her fans there, sitting & exchanging in conversations & signing autographs, sometimes over an hour after. A real gem, for sure. As was Dan. I’m sorry he was lost to us when he was. Too young. I hope he found Jesus 🕊
...I have good memories hearing this song,Cheryl sings the verse Dan Seals left out in his famous recording. The song is inspired by a sister of a friend of Cherly who had a hard time obviously.....thanks for posting this!

Another Cheryl Wheeler spectacular song. One of the two best song writers ever. Cheryl & Joni Mitchell.
