We have a 2022 Model 3 RWD LFP, and travel from Bridgewater, NS to Prince Edward County, ON often. The trick is to switch your range view from KM to percentage. Definitely follow the charging recommendations at each supercharger your stop at. We always find it's much easier to charge more often, for a shorter period of time. On our Ontario trips, we usually stop every couple hours, charge for 15-20 minutes, and often only charging up to 70% or 80%. We find it super-quick, usually just enough time for a bio-break, walk the dog, and grab a coffee.

Ice cars also use more gas during very cold weather but nobody make a big fuss about it. We do lose around 20-30% of range during very cold weather, but you plan your moves accordingly. There are so many advantages to an EV that it out balances the down sides.

Finally someone who is giving facts & good advise , I am my 2nd EV in Canada ( Kona EV 1st & now Tesla Y AWD long ranges ) I did on line research before I bought and new in advance that EV’s loose 25-30% range on -20c and colder , it was no secret ,& both Hyundai & Tesla staff advises of this ( no one tried to hide that fact) as they both advised that if you can’t charged at home ( as I can) you might find and EV inconvenient , again they did not try to Hide this fact. So good to hear someone telling the straight up facts that you can use and EV in cold climates if you plan ahead

I have Model Y RWD and charge at home with level 2 charger. During the warmer months I was averaging 141w/km and would charge to 100% every other day to get to work which is a 135km round trip and I would have about 30% left by the time I would recharge. Now during the extreme cold weather I am averaging 195 w/km with standby losses of around 7% while parked in the cold at work and about 3-4% preconditioning before leaving for home. I don't worry too much about the cold, I know I am using more energy during cold weather driving, parking and preconditioning, so I changed my charging habits from charging every other day during the warm weather, to charging every day to 80% and when I get home I arrive with around 30%, a nice buffer in case I need to go anywhere else before heading home. I live in the Burlington area and work in Scarborough, so I do a fair bit of daily driving, so far I love my model Y and am saving a ton of cash compared to using my Ram Long Horn 1500, that was costing me around $175/week in gas.

If the range loss on those extreme cold days isn't enough then I just take my gas car. Having both options is a sweet setup in my opinion. Those extreme winter days might only be about a month or month and a half total in the winter, half the time it's cold but not the extreme cold we had recently. I guess that depends on where you live in Canada, if your in Sask, Alberta, Winnipeg then they might get more of those extreme cold days.

Well the RWD Tesla’s charge at a max of 32amps so you can typically get away with fitting them in most existing electrical panels depending on the current loads on the panel already. I have a 200amp panel so I am definitely good but you should be safe on a 100amp panel in most cases.
