@@MadameRhapsody you can get it on some of the larger enemies iirc, either way 20 damage from ten feet away is better then 20 damage but you have to be dangerously close to an enemy
The only big downside is the lack of soul gain. But considering you’re at full health and have a nail-focused charm build, that downside is fairly mitigated. Still, I like to use it with Fury, and I like to use Fury with Glowing Womb, and Glowing Womb requires soul. But only a few physical hits is enough to fuel Glowing Womb for a while, so it’s not too bad.

i haven’t used Elegy too much but it’s been quite useful where i have used it. ..only thing i would change about it is the sound it makes, I REALLY do not like that sound effect.
Although I enjoyed the video, I apologize, but I must challenge this claim that grubberfly’s elegy is good. I’ve seen how you have effectively used the charm to keep your distance in boss fights where staying close to the boss is risky. However, in my opinion, the time it takes you to beat bosses using only this charm is just too long to be viable for me. I recently completed a P5 all bindings run; the time I took to complete Markoth was roughly equivalent to your steady defeat of the boss using the elegy. That is with the difference of charms and nail damage. My strategy against Markoth involved nail arts. I would argue in that fight, that nail arts, particularly dash slash and great slash are a better option for various reasons: they provide ample range to hit the boss at different distances (dash slash has more range than a strike from elegy and great slash avoids mistakes from dashing into the boss when too close); they do more damage than a weakened hit from elegy; and they gather soul to be used for spells which also enable further damage. So you see, while grubberfly’s elegy can be a very safe option at times, I feel there exists more viable charm options to fill those three notches. Also, it’s worth mentioning that sometimes, the low damage of elegy can bring more risk because of all the extra time they require of the player to successfully dodge the boss’s attacks. Tell me what you think.
This is a showcase, where I try to pick places where it can be viable so that people can get some ideas if they are stuck on something . Whether people think it's good or not is a personal preference, I hate it myself and never use it.
@@MadameRhapsody Thanks for your response. It at first seemed to me like you were trying to make a case that the charm was good by opposing the title quote that calls it “useless.” I see now what you intended and regardless of that, you definitely helped some people who were stuck. @@MadameRhapsody The problem is that this charm isn't the best option for normal boss fights, but you can use it for: Radiant fights, Trail of the fool, 5th pantheon or other pantheons

O boi that hitless Markoth, respect. Lately my friend has been mocking me for using sharp shadow. Would you mind demonstrating that it's actually s great charm??
@@MadameRhapsody Well, I generally use it everywhere, it offers free damage for just dodging through an enemy, and there's many bosses (traitor lord or pure vessel, for example) where dodging right through them is quite useful. It also increases the distance of your dash, so that's also pretty neat
@@kaitogirldraws tbh all the sharp shadow mockery I've heard is because it makes things too easy, not because it's useless. Basically saying that using it means you're not good enough to win without it or something.
I always thought this charm was op. i mean you LITERALLY SHOOT IN A MELEE-BASED GAME. paired with quick slash you can melt stuff without even touching it
It depends. For enemies you won't, since the beams just pass through them and you only deal nail damage, but I have not tried for say Abs Rad, who has one of the biggest hitboxes in the game, you might get both there.
I'm several months late but can someone explain how Elegy works with Fury? does Fury override the full health requirement that Elegy says it needs to work?
Most likely yes. Team Cherry probably thought it would be a cool synergy where being at 1 HP had another benefit. After all, being able to do ranged attacks at 1 HP with Fury is pretty broken.
Who genuinely thinks this charm is useless? If you can avoid getting hit it’s a 50% damage upgrade to your nail and since it hits a second time it should also help with stunning bosses. And if you’re going through base game this makes killing weak enemies even easier.
It is not a 50% upgrade, the beams do 50% of your normal nail damage. I tested this on multiple enemies and if you are within melee range the beams doesn't even count and the damage output is just the nail (I explain it in the description). If there is one thing that I can say for certainty in this game is that people have vastly different playstyles, and that includes different ideas on what is and is not, a good charm. I never use this charm normally because I use spells and nail arts, and by the time I get it I am on my way to beat Radiance or enter godhome. So for me it actually is useless in most cases. Mostly though I hate the noise, so I would probably use it more if it didn't bother me as much. :(
@@MadameRhapsody I agree that not only is the noise bad but also that you get the charm way to late into the game. But when I say it is a damage increase I mean if you hit an enemy with your nail they will also normally get damaged by the beam making it a 50% increase. My biggest issue with the charm in god home is that the beams don’t give any soul.

@@MadameRhapsody you can get it on some of the larger enemies iirc, either way 20 damage from ten feet away is better then 20 damage but you have to be dangerously close to an enemy
@@sleepyppl4286 I like Social Distancing from Markoth as I'm allergic to RNG.
Me spending 90% of my time walking up to enemies: I need this charm now.
Can you make up charm build for every bench stop in pantheon of the hollownest?
I have actually done that recently.
Really
I used grubberflys elegy on pantheon 5 and it carried me, I love it
The only big downside is the lack of soul gain.
Gfly's elegy with strenght does 75% of your normal nail hits, on top of that when you get in the range of your normal nail hits it's kinda like 175% (or im just making it up idk)
I think if you upload 3-4 more video you'll reach 1k good luck!!
Thank you! I never anticipated getting even 100. And I have plenty of videos in the works so no worries there, at least for now.
“Quick slash is useless! Just press the button faster!”
i thought being close did damage from both the nail and the beam. A shame, i went crazy with close up slashing for the first pantheon thinking it was helping me. Still a cool charm for anything that's scary to close in
This build is hella good I used it and it helped me with the lost kin and so many others in godseeker
Grubberfly's Elegy isn't useless, it's just for confident players, which I am NOT
clearly Steady Body is doing all the work, and I don't even need to mention Wayward Compass
i didn’t use grubberfly’s elegy for markoth radiant, i used soul eater and shaman stone to skip phase two with lucky double hits on shade soul
i lile the Charm but the thing is you get is so late ingame typicly That by then youd jusr use Mark of pride quickslash unbreakable strength...NOW LETS SAY your FireB0rn and have Legacy 2 charm notch quickslash...Then you can equipp grubberflys elegy and it becomes pretty nutty
Yeah, that is why I never use it, get it too late. RIP 2 Notch Quick Slash.
@@MadameRhapsody if im on PC You can Bet ill do a 2 charm notch Quick slash XD i mean i dont ever Plan On Playing Hollowknight on a competitive level So i should rather say i wouldnt think of doing speedruns or like idk hitless smth where you submit to a website
And Also What would be fun to see is they tried Any Radiance...but every Charm costs 1 Notch If you select basicly and 11 charms i wonder what people would choose
i haven’t used Elegy too much but it’s been quite useful where i have used it.
..only thing i would change about it is the sound it makes, I REALLY do not like that sound effect.
I agree. I heard the noise in my head for two days after making this and the 1000 sub video.
I kind of love how so many people say that Dream Shield is a useless charm, but they also say that Markoth, who has a dream shield, is super hard.
Bosses don't die instantly by touching the player's dreamshield. That's the difference.
I read some comments below that testify to that. So good for that!
*Casually demonstrates Fury of the Fallen + Grubberfly's Elegy charm interaction by basically doing AbsRad on Radiant*
Radiance phase 1-3 is perfect for Elegy, no need to jump to hit her.
@@MadameRhapsody Hmm, this could help me, I'm struggling with AbsRad
My second favourite charm because it lets me be constantly aggressive even while far away from the boss
Can't hit me back, love it.
It's also great in the fight with radiant Marmu
Ngl I used this charm for radiant failed champion
Now I am waiting for my favourite charm Carefree melody
If you have ideas on where to use it feel free. I have a savefile prepared.
@@MadameRhapsody The problem is that this charm isn't the best option for normal boss fights, but you can use it for: Radiant fights, Trail of the fool, 5th pantheon or other pantheons
So I may hate on steady body (for a good reason) but I can’t hate on elegy
Idk, it has undeniable use for transporting the flower, at the very least.
It’s pretty hard to use the grubberflys elegy while in the markoth Fight because You have to be at full health and there’s a pretty low chance that you’re going to be at full health the entire fight.
This is on Radiant though, so you are always at full health luckily.
O boi that hitless Markoth, respect.
Lately my friend has been mocking me for using sharp shadow. Would you mind demonstrating that it's actually s great charm??
It has been suggested a lot, so it is coming. Feel free to tell me where you like using it.
You can't get soul unless you're close, which defeats the whole purpose.
Only if you need soul, and in this case I only use that for Abs Rad.
I'd like to think that grubberfly's elegy is just a undertale refrence
Just got my carpal tunnel healed time to destroy it again
Id assume it’s also pretty good for collector
Works great on attuned but it takes two hits to kill the upgraded enemies on ascended and P5 so it’s not as useful
No, as stated by Foroe. Strength will one shot the ads so use that instead.
0:35 crazy gameplay xD
Such an intense battle.
Got my sub for the markoth fight
It looks dope af and that's all i care about in any game tbh
My favorite charm, probably
Grubs made this charm! It cannot be useless
i love this charm but i cant stay on full hp for long
I always thought this charm was op. i mean you LITERALLY SHOOT IN A MELEE-BASED GAME. paired with quick slash you can melt stuff without even touching it
Question, if you use grubberfly's elegy at the range in which your nail can hit, wouldn't it effectively increase your dps by 50%?
"lmao imagine he does AbsRad radiant."
*sees AbsRad*
"I WAS JOKING"
That one was actually really fun.
@@MadameRhapsody it seems like fun
ive only done regular radiance but ill probs start going for p5
I use elegy for radiance radiance to end endless sword phase without using soul
Elegy+Quick Slash=Unmodded Hollow Knight with a Gun
It's not just get closer. It's just don't get hit bro and its useful
Ye I just found out that this charm is the way to cheese all the radiant bosses
mmm...I like cheese.
your really good, how many hours do you have on the game?
Not sure, but 1500-2000 is an estimate based on Steam + PS4.
Is it just me or markoth sounds like optimus prime
I used this charm to beat NKG lmao. It got the extra damage off at the start so its actually not that bad for him.
Now do one with the Heart of Thorns charm
how to bully hornet (radiant mode)
equip elegy and quick slash
win
Doesn't also team up with grubsong?
Yes but only when taking damage.
i personally really like to use this charm against sly, it really melt him.
Can you do why staltwart shell is good? I feel like it gets lots of hate
You know, it's funny you should mention that.. .;)
