    "We don't have freedom of speech anymore," says Bill O'Reilly. He says it. He speaks those words. Freely. Unhindered. He's not been arrested, that I know of. It reminds me of that JFK conspiracy theorist with a replica of Oswald's rifle, claiming it can't be reloaded in less than a certain number of seconds WHILE RELOADING IT IN LESS TIME THAN HE SAYS.

    It's a tired point by now, but Miller's reference of "1984 being off by 30 years" completely misrepresents Orwell as somehow being a right winger when he was a socialist that literally traveled to Catalonia to fight Franco's fascism in the 30's.

    • @newharmonynaptown4868
      @newharmonynaptown4868 6 лет назад

      Orwell was hardly a committed socialist at that point in his life. He had just finished The Road to Wigan Pier, a book that didn't really advocate Socialism to fight against poverty. In fact, his publisher, Gollanz (sp?), who ran a leftist book club of sorts, insulted him unjustly in reviews and public events when he was gone in Spain and could not respond.

    Have you ever asked these “freedom of speech”, “anti political correctness” goof balls what they want to say so badly?

    • @SteveGellerMusic
      @SteveGellerMusic 6 лет назад +2

      We know what they want to say. "Rich Christian White straight males are superior and everyone else should be a slave or starve because that's how God's Natural Order works." Which is why they use the term "Cultural Marxism," i.e., "our culture is naturally superior because of merit, and so forcing other cultures on par with ours is Marxist because they haven't earned it."
      But they can't come out and say "We want to re-create the antebellum South where we were in charge and everyone else was chattel," so they have to say "I can't speak my mind because people aren't letting me, but rest assured my ideas would be great if only you were allowed to hear them." They aren't great, and you have plenty of places for us to hear them, and it's all all irrelevant anyway because we already know what you're going to say. The attempts to take down Confederate statues didn't just happen to spur on Neo-Confederates, KKK members and Nazis all at once in the same place, to all be essentially exonerated by the president. They value the Confederacy more than they value any current American institution.

      Miller's early standup work is still considered among the greatest in standup comedy history. If you look at any list of "top stand-ups of all time," he is in the top 30. The over-wordy analogy stuff, etc., was definitely his own creation. It's just that at some point around 1999-2001 he switched to becoming a Rightwing hack and that leads to terrible material for a modern comedy set.

White voters broke in general for Trump but Irish were the ethnicity most favorable to Clinton among white voters according to this poll. German and Italian voters were the most favorable to Trump. It is a buzzfeed poll so I don't know how reliable it is.

    1984 was originally to be entitled 'The Last Man in Europe', but his publisher didn't like the title, so it was changed to 1984, because the book was published in 1948. It was not really intended to be predictive science fiction. Orwell was inspired by Kafka, and wanted to do a dark satire of totalitarian regimes.
