My youngest sister passed away in July of last year. Her name is Mary Elizabeth. I heard the Statler Brothers song "oh Elizabeth" My heart sank. It was so hard to listen to. Now a year later I think it is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever Heard. Thank you Statler Brothers.
My dad was on the road a lot when I was little. When he would get home I'd tell him to play my song( its my name) and he would play it and let me stand on his feet and dance with me. I love u daddy
I can't believe a hundred seventy people would say they didn't like this this is some of the greatest country music there ever was I know Jimmy Fortune came in after the original gentleman passed away but you got to give him credit he's got a voice like no other in The Statler Brothers I'll tell you what can bring a tear to your eye when they sing because they bring their heart and soul to their music God bless Statler Brothers and may God bless him with long lives
Rest In Peace, Harold Reid. You're now singing bass in Heaven's Choir. May the blessings & comfort of God attend the Reid family during their time of sadnesss.
John Collins I’m gonna cry. I didn’t know till I read this. Love that ole boy. I always go to see them around my birthday in February every year. Miss you Harold. Heavens a brighter place now.
I love them all but Reid was my favorite. I just learned today that it's a man singing tenor in the song "Amanda" by Don Williams. I thought he had a nice voice too.
He wrote that song after meeting a 12 year old little girl named Elizabeth in a wheelchair at a concert one time who had no other dream but to meet Jimmy Fortune and The Statler Brothers! ❤❤❤
The line "..don't know if I can ever live my life without you" gets me every time. I think of my son, gone 28 years. I live on without him, but I miss him every day of my life.
on my earlier post my friend tom hubbs his favorite song was elizabeth with statlers brothersi lost my friend to all timers and after two years or so the lord took himaway a piece of my heart is missing his love of 68 years sue had died a few back tom was 88 their friend ivan painter cobden illinois .
The Greatest Country group of all time, their wonderful voices and exquisite harmonies send shivers all over me and the goose bumps start just thinking of their beautiful songs. I live in England and never had the opportunity to see them on stage. Have all of the UK released albums and listen tom them constantly. Miss them very much, Thank you all for the wonderful times you have given my late wife and myself.
You are correct also General Kael, NOBODY comes cloe to Harold's vovice either. Him, and his singing were 1 in 100,000,000 ! ! Right On ! ! Yes Sir ! All theStatler's knew how to put a song together, and sing it as if they meant EVERY WORD ! ! Thanks for your post General, and Many Many Thanks to the Statler's. I really would be Lost IF I never heard them sing, nor seen them on T.V. They were the ONLY group i knew who could do GREAT COUNTRY, and GOSPEL.
My daughter’s middle name is Elizabeth because of this song. I was 5 months pregnant. Oh Elizabeth I long to see your pretty face. . .That-was 36 yrs ago! I was on a long road trip & this was the #1 song - played over& over & over & ....!
Jimmy Fortune, i love in this song. He has what I call a "shit eating grin" when singing this song. I have to listen to this song every night just to see his smile.
Thank you guy's so much!! Some time when I feel so bad feeling sorry for myself & my many friends that's not with us anymore, I play this song & feel better, please be good to your friends because one day they will be gone!! May God Bless All !!!!!!
WHAT AN INCREDIBLE VOICE JIMMY FORTUNE HAS,....I WISH THAT THE STATLER BROTHERS WERE STILL PERFORMING,....I NEVER GOT TO SEE THEM PERFORM, BUT, I SURE ENJOY THEIR MUSIC, AND, THEIR BEAUTIFUL HARMONIZING.
I had tickets 3 different times for their show and only got to see them about 5 years before they stopped touring. It was, and still is, one of the BEST concerts I have ever been to.
Yeah, know what you mean. They did replace the 1 Statler, with Jimmy Fortune, but I don't know IF Harold Reid could be replaced. I'm just glad happy there is RUclips, so we ALL get a chance to hear that TRUE, and unduplicted sound that is Country at it's Finest. I want to listen to more now, so I'm moving on, but Ruth Feder, IF you couls listen to only 1 singer, or 1 band, the Statlers would DEFINITLY BE THE ONE !
Jimmy Fortune was highly recommended by Lew DeWitt. When they hired Jimmy, Jimmy told them he would be with them until they retired. He was thrilled to be a part of the Statler Bros.
Harold Reid, who sang bass for the Grammy-winning country group the Statler Brothers, died on Friday, April 24th, 2002 after a long battle with kidney failure. He was 80 years old... Between 1965 and 1990 the Staunton, Virginia group had sixty six records on the Billboard Country charts, thirty three made the Top 10 with four reaching #1, "Do You Know You Are My Sunshine" for two weeks in May 1978, "Elizabeth" for one week in March for 1984, "My Only Love" for one week in March of 1984, and "Too Much On My Heart" for one week in November of 1985... Founding member Lewis Calvin DeWitt passed away at the young age of 52 on August 15th, 1990 {Crohn's disease}... May both Mr. Reid and Mr. DeWitt R.I.P. * They just missing having three more #1 records when their "Flowers On The Wall" for four weeks in 1966, "Do You Remember These" for four weeks in 1972, and "Oh Baby Mine (I Get So Lonely)" for one week in 1983, all peaked at #2...
2/13/1984 I got news my Grandmother that helped raise me passed away. Her name was Elizabeth “Lizzie”. Months later I had my car radio on and about to drive out of the parking lot when this song came on. I had to stay in the parking area for several minutes until the tears stopped.
The Statler Brothers are from my home town. We're so proud of all of their accomplishments. They're all so very friendly with all of us. For 25 yrs. they performed at our July 4th celebration. Big attendence from around the world.
I attended a concert they did in Waco, Texas. When they sang More Than A Name On a Wall I cried for all of my brothers and sisters who's names carved on the wall. US Navy 1966-70.
My Mother was the Statler Brothers "biggest" fan. Even though Harold once told her "We have fans lots bigger than you!" Now my 3 year old granddaughter, Elizabeth, thinks this song is just for her. She will also be a Statler fan.
Kenneth Smart,Sr. I know it's like to lose the love of your life I had someone so dear to me to talk about it it's sad but it helps she was taken from me by drunk driver in a head-on collision she died shortly at the hospital why he suffered minor injuries but he's never going to drive over again because he's in a place where he belongs and I know God took my angel home like he took your angel home and someday we will see them again so God bless you and your family
Still don't really care for country music too much but I have a sweet spot in my heart for The Statler Brothers after Lester roadhog Moran And His Cadillac Cowboys live at the Johnny Mack Brown High School
Oh I remember when this song came out, I had to go to the hospital for surgery, so I brought along my Sony tape player and played the heck out of this song!!

R.I.P. Harold Reid best bass singer ever. The Statlers will always be my all time favorite group
However Jimmy Fortune is the lead singer in this song, and he goes/or used to go solo, stilll sing "Elizabeth".
@robbie--I don't know, I think Paul Robeson or Tennessee Ernie Ford might have something to say about that.
All are greats! But Harold was the funniest of them. The angels have a new bass singer, if they can keep from laughing! Godspeed, Harold and Lew.
My dad was on the road a lot when I was little. When he would get home I'd tell him to play my song( its my name) and he would play it and let me stand on his feet and dance with me. I love u daddy
The good old Statler Brothers, very healing ,,we need more groups like the Statlers To day
They appealed to everybody. And Jimmy Fortune was a natural fit when Lew DeWitt had to retire because of ill health.
Yes we do.

Jimmy gave The Statlers new energy. He was a great addition after Lew retired due to health issues.
I agree with everything you said.
I can't believe it either, Jimmy is talented and I know Lew and Harold are so proud of him in heaven. Don n Phil too.
I think it's an awesome song I Love It😅
Rest In Peace, Harold Reid. You're now singing bass in Heaven's Choir. May the blessings & comfort of God attend the Reid family during their time of sadnesss.
I wonder if Lew greeted him at the pearly gates.
@@joshuabrooks4907 I'll bet he did, then they started harmonizing.
The Host Of Angels Choir Really Gained A Strong Bass! He was always my favorite person in the band.
John Collins I’m gonna cry. I didn’t know till I read this. Love that ole boy. I always go to see them around my birthday in February every year. Miss you Harold. Heavens a brighter place now.

When Country Music was really Country Music.
I've always felt that Jimmy Fortune is the best tenor in country music. Perfect vocals here.
I love them all but Reid was my favorite. I just learned today that it's a man singing tenor in the song "Amanda" by Don Williams. I thought he had a nice voice too.
Such a pure voice.

The biggest mistake in Ken Burns documentary was the way he ignored the Statler Brotherss.

My mother would play the statler's over and over again in the seventies as a kid
I agree, it makes me miss my Dad, he had a deep voice like Harold's. I got to see The Statler brothers in concert when I was a kid.
These guys are the best.
The melody and harmony the Statler's do with this song is
just beautiful.
These were the days when music was still good, musicians still had talent and men were still gentlemen.
