Found out my dad sung this to me in the womb. I'm pregnant with a girl so he asked if I've been singing to her and he sung this song to me. My mom always wanted a daughter and knew her name would be Elizabeth.
In 1980 I left my sweet childhood friend behind in Devine, TX. When this song was released it reminded me of my dear friend, Amy Elizabeth. I still think of her today.
The addition of Jimmy Fortune was one of the few times that a group could change vocals and still nail it. The Statler Brothers had consistently fine harmonizing.
Statler Brothers were the finest example of what a male 4 part harmony can sound like where you truely have all 4 parts on an equal footing of importance!! In most 4 part harmonies, you have a truely gifted lead singer or maybe two greats with a decent bass singer, but these four men were all at the top of their game in their respective portions of the harmony and the result is musical magic!! Thank God for the Statler Brothers!! I have always loved their music, but it wasn't until recently that I realized the genius of these 4 voices!! In Heaven they are serving up another Statler Brothers hit in-between their excellent Gospel music songs!!
Losing Lew to illness when they were on top of country music was a huge blow..however they found the best addition they could have ever hoped for in jimmy..good things happen to good people..what an incredible success story and legends they were..are..and always will be..
i was blessed that Jimmy wrote me back when i told him how much i loved this song it reminds me of my second niece i never got to see grow up cause she died in the womb the week she was to be born her name was Elizabeth
My mom's favorite music! And I have a daughter named Elizabeth. I hope some day to dance with her at her wedding to that song. May Harold rest in peace and be forever in Glory.
Jimmy Fortune is now on the Gaither Gospel Show. and still singing. I keep missing it, its usually on a Friday night. He is a great sing. And l love listening to him.
For me, the Statler Brothers didn't become THE Statler Brothers until Jimmy Fortune joined them. His voice just fit the rest of the guys like a glove. Love this song.
I was very lucky to see them at the Holiday Star Theater in Merriville,Indiana just when this song just hit the charts. Always will love this song has so many special memories.
Listening to this on March 17, 2024 for its Irish sound ... before today, I had no idea this song had a video. Love the "timeless" theme ... thanks for sharing!
It's especially amazing because you'd think the Statler Brothers might have made songwriting skills part of the qualifications when they chose a replacement for Lew. But they didn't, and just told Jimmy that he should write songs if he wants to--and he went and wrote three #1 hits.
He said he wrote it one night in a hotel room and had a couple tape players and recorded it in the tile restroom. Took it to them the next day! It was the first song he had ever written.
Oh Elizabeth I long to see your pretty face I long to touch your lips, I long to feel your warm embrace Don't know if I could ever live my life without you Oh Elizabeth I'm sure missing you I remember when we shared a life together You gave me strength and love, and life that felt brand new You so far away I have to say I'm feeling blue Oh Elizabeth I'm sure missing you Oh Elizabeth I long to see your pretty face I long to touch your lips, I long to feel your warm embrace Don't know if I could ever live my life without you Oh Elizabeth I'm sure missing you Well it's been said before that I've caused many heartaches And I wonder if that parts really true Be it right or wrong it feels my heart will surely break Oh Elizabeth I hope you understand Oh Elizabeth I long to see your pretty face I long to touch your lips, I long to feel your warm embrace Don't know if I could ever live my life without you Oh Elizabeth I'm sure missing you Don't know if I could ever live my life without you Oh Elizabeth I'm sure missing you Oh Elizabeth • • • • • My current girlfriend is named Elizabeth. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is my favorite song by the Statler Brothers and favorite video and I was looking all over for it and I am glad some finally posted it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I COULD KISS YOUR FOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I work at night and sleep during the daytime and I woke up one evening with this extraordinarily beautiful and somewhat haunting song running through my mind, I didn't know the name of the song, really all I remembered was the melody and the basic but complex chord structure. I searched for days until I found it. I am a classically trained pianist and musician, and I couldn't tell you the last time I heard this, all I can figure is that I heard it while riding in the car with my dad while he and my mom were going through a divorce, and even though I was just a child this song somehow was deeply imbedded into my subconscious and somehow came back to the surface of my mind as I slept that day. Pretty interesting 🤔
I remember when this video premiered on Casey Kasem's show Americas top 10 , mom had to watch it , I was only 9 years old at the time & looking back this is a very sad song , a good song mind you but it was so sad
@@waterskippers It was probably hidden because Harold is wearing a Confederate uniform. In the age of Political correctness, left learners would have a heart attack even though he is simply acting a part.

Maybe the most beautiful song that the Statler Brothers (with Jimmy Fortune) ever did.
Agreed I think it s the most beautiful song about love I have ever heard

All their song s were great. I think they outdid themselves with this song. Everything about it; the harmony and the video were TOO GOOD!
