In Eastern culture (Korea, Japan, etc) fashion is considered a lifestyle. It isn't about wearing bogos and ripped acid washed skinny jeans every single day, as well as flexing jewellery. It's more of creating new styles from an existing style, curating new forms, either borrowed from another culture or not.
In our culture, fashion is more of personal preference, not a status to show how rich you are, what kind of job that person is currently in, etc.
I dont believe that's entirely true. They definitely have theit and whoring I believe Korea and China may have more of that than japan tho. Chinese immigrants with money where stuff that almost exclusively has logos on it
facts , I live in Japan .. its not like they`re just wearing the clothes , they`re wearing energy

Love this format! Would like to see you explore Japanese thrift shops and maybe interviews with local streetwear heads in japan.
Will do!
Will second this
Yes, please more of thrift shops
Hopefully
THE CASUAL could you please answer ? The question was who is the guy on the thumbnail?
this channel is head and shoulders above any other channel in terms of detailing fashion culture. I cant get enough of these damn videos! Keep it up

Don’t ask why I thought this was relevant, I don’t even know why I put this here.
I do Believe that Japanese Street Culture is actually a bog Inspiration for the Western Street faishion. I think is wrong to say that the western Culture is the insperation.
Personally i do believe, that Japanese Fashion is ahead of our Western Style.
Lk_Wolf It really looks like the way it should’ve been, but then people here got way too caught up with the celebrities, following them round & square
how people dress is a watered down version of celebrities and it's sad
Personally I feel that it's sort of cycle or circle of uh fashion. Japanese get inspired by the West, go hard and evolve it, then the West gets inspired by Japan.🤔
To understand Japanese fashion is to accept the fact that most of the contemporary stuff IS in fact inspired by the West and Japanese will often say that. Ask a young Japanese male what style he likes and he'll often say "American Casual".
It may be ahead in your eyes because its more detailed and deliberate but to completely ignore the Western impact would be disingenuous. For example BEAMS, the largest select shop in Japan, started completely as a homage to California west coast fashion.
Japanese street style is heavily influence by the street style in the States. NY, LA etc... That’s a fact.
Great video. The production on the channel is always improving. And adding credits was a nice touch.
The thing I love about the japanese, their fits always look good, even their old people knows how to dress, and they don't even need to wear big brands to do it too, unlike here kids just put on whatever expensive or hyped up shit they got without even looking if the colors blend well.
Omg I know right!
Reggie, i think japanese fashion has given back tons to the culture.
This episode was truly something else! Massive props to all the production that goes into this- brings me back to when I was in Shibuya 💌
Wow. LOVE the new direction of the channel! It was so dope to hear that you wanted to take the focus away from the hypebeasts and straight into the culture behind it all, and this delivered. Keep it up Reggie + Team CASUAL!
I really love this documentary-esque cinematography!
Excited for this new path for The Casual!
Keep it up!
I’m loving the new approach to the video style and content.
Love the filter you guys used for this episode’s video Reggie! The cinematic feel is 🔥
Great production! Quality work yo! Keep it up. Best channel on RUclips for street culture/fashion.😎👍
I speculate this format will help the channel to blow up. It was really insightful information. Looking forward for more content, and the GURLZ.
This was awesome!! I really enjoyed it!! Thanks for the cool informative vid! I really like how you mention the appreciation of culture!
Always love your content outside the studio. It really "takes you there" and much more immersive when you speak about aspects of Japan. Great production as well! You inspire me to start my own channel.
Great presentation, awesome cinematography, and a solid argument for why Japanese streetwear culture is the way it is today. Really liked how you explained the primacy of discovery and spontaneity in the way Western fashion is being adopted in Japan. One of your best posts yet. Kudos, bro.
I would say thank you for bringing such great content to RUclips and above the "scene". your perspective on subjects you discuss or show are always so well done. I am looking forward to seeing maybe more in depth of the Japanese view on the culture or the amount of western influence.
thanks
man, your content is great, seriously. keep it up! 🔥
Loving this walking and talking style video! Great montages of the city life too!
Ohh my…… God bless them sweet, sweeeet footage and music. Great work! 🙏
The respect you have for style and culture is admirable. I hope to take a tour of the city with you when I visit. Thank you sir.
Favourite episode yet! Loved this format
AMAZING content as always!
I've subbed to you because I saw that you look fashion with a purpose not just consumerism and hype, this new channel direction is the perfect way to change focuses and enrich the fashion game as a whole. Keep the great ideas coming
It's just so amazing to see how much the channel has evolved
Format, Passing, editing, all of it. You guys said you would do new things and then just went on with it
That's why this is my favorite channel. Quality content and now with a even cooler format

INTERVIEW PEOPLE/OTHER EXPERTS!!!
We love hearing your perspective! But we wanna hear the culture from the STREETS ! Keep the grind Reggie 🙏🏽🙌🏽
I love the way he explained about Japanese street culture. He nailed it. I am a Japanese and I also have a similar view. Plus it is impressive that the footage is really the Shibuya now… I mean this is Shibuya this week literally 😂
Where is the hip hop in Japan? I'm here and make beats, put me on man!
@@SnyderMusikMost of them are in Shibuya or Shimokitazawa.
If you go to Jazzy sport record store, you might get a good sense of what's going on.
@@dillaaaaa I'll check them out today. Any other places you would recommend? Is there a open mic place for local artists? Thanks for your response by the way! I am just really trying to show my beats off or see some local talent since I'll be here for a few years. Dilla was one of my influences as well. R.i.P
@@SnyderMusik I left Tokyo just before Covid and because of this situation, I am not too sure what is going on. Google probably knows better. Sorry 😩 Redbull does some good events and seminar before Covid but I don't see much going on with them now.
Man your video's are great. Thanks for sharing!! :)
REGGIE ! Love the new direction for these videos. So many blogs love to type up a storm about Japan for articles but who is really out here/there , literally. Super cool dope content bro i love how the aesthetic of this video ! Being the focal point while everyone else is doing their own thing. Super happy to see what else is comin wit this
Loved this episode Reggie. Keep it up
didn't expect to find you here!
Respect in every way Jordan. We'll hold it down here in Japan. Keep doing work!
I'd go further than saying it's an amalgamation. I would call it intertextuality. It's a conversation between different cultures and individuals through style. Conscious referencing with an editorial eye.
great composition and content. you're really hyping up japan for my visit in a few weeks!!!
Liked this style of video. Seems very well edited. Kudos
Damn you guys really leveled up in terms of content and quality editing!
Still waiting on a beams breakdown video lol. Would be good for people to hear about the effect they had on Japanese fashion for the past 40 years.
We got you✊
Korea and Japan is a perfect place for people in love with fashion.
Just the working culture there is fck up :D
Depends what type of fashion you want if it’s high fashion I would recommend Italy or Spain but if it’s street fashion I would recommend Korea and japan
this casual conversation style format is definitely a step forward in the direction for the channel. it feels like a mixture between a vlog and a documentary
Love the new style Reggie, keep it up
Going to Japan next year, and this video gets me hyped up.
I'm going for my first time in February. I am way too excited!
That was such an interesting point you made about how we receive and experience our "western" cultures in real time, while it's only until it's brought to global relevance that the Japanese see it! Never thought of that. Loved the topic, would love to see this further explored in a longer video, or even a podcast episode.
Solid film work on this...like the new direction
Hey Reggie, this video was quality. Your channel is quickly becoming my favorite. Keep it up man!
I backpacked solo in 2013 june, july, August & first time backpacking camping and occasionally using couchsurfing another country, had the 2week JR rail pass and loved everything best experience of my life.
I wish to move back there.
It was the first time i felt i belonged somewhere any experience was just so good i learned so much.
Also experienced a lot of reverse culture shock.....😕went to sweden, netherlands, and iceland year after with more reverse culture shock...
Im so jealous i want to move to Japan so bad!
This is awesome i love it💕
Enjoying the content!
Dope video bro!!!
Keep the vlog style vids coming, loved this one.
Yo I dig this new direction the channel is moving in. I hope at some point to see you focus on some different subcultures, like what punk is like in japan.
What a great video 😊😊
Love the lo-fi aesthetic vibe of the bg music
Loveeee thisssss
fuckin sick video. been watching from the beginning. love this.
HA! SO dope. Thank you.
This is really cool.
Much Respect 💯!
Damn I love this format! Great visuals. I'd love to see more of that in the future.
Ready for the journey
It’s been a minute, missed y’all
Idk if it just me or people too but when i saw people with out mask my heart was like oh no and i was like something is missing
The production quality of this video thooooooo!
what slomo camera do you guys use?
I didn't know where to contact, so here I am. I heard on a previous video Nike took off ACG line up? So is it still there or gone gone long?
Dope content broe but wait...your music 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 sick ass lounge vibes. What's name of the last song you played?
God I want to visit Japan one day. Tokyo, especially. Such a massive city and so many different subcultures in that area.
Most amazing place ever. Been coming here for 20 years now.
Real quick, how do I find the style of music you guys use in the intros for "THE CASUAL" and shit
Love it love it
Damn...this video was beautiful
I love Tokyo Japan 🇯🇵 one of my favorite places
Dope🔥🔥🔥
I really, really really really, liked this whole video. Dam good content, and the way it was all given to us out here, living it casual... was #dopeasfuck

buen video
Saw the thumbnail and thought that we were finally getting the whoisjacov X the casual crossover
Anyone know who the model is in the thumbnail photo?
yall know what the intro track is?
Good video
From Argentina
6:37 is that a takeaway t-shirt shop?
How can u get rid of my acne, im 18
please make a playlist of the songs you're using. Please.
What sources do you guys use to see more Japanese streetwear or fashion in general? Also where could I get a noragi or a open cardigan without buttons/ shawl that Japanese men wear lol
Check out Aesthetic Homage. Pretty decently priced. The real high end stuff from Japan can get quite pricey.
What’s the track please...
can u make a WTH video on Wtaps? one of my fav japanese brands that i think has an interesting backstory and needs more rep in the states
Song?
I’d say it’s perfectly fine to acknowledge that cosmopolitan/stylish Japanese absorb and remix influences from all over - especially American - and turn it to 10. Hip hop, Chicano, skate, American casual/business casual/normcore/traditional, even wearing American college sweatshirts. A lot of American people also love Japanese culture :)
nice
Killing it Reggie! Needs more G U R L S tho 😂
Yes sir, Di gal dem 😍.
Agree with the whole reimagining of fashion thing. United arrows definitely suprised me. There is a strong sense of "was this piece of clothing just copied and refurbished" when I shopped their but I think there is also a strong sense of Japan, you can only get their. On my trip their last month someone said to me that Japan is probably made of 90% A type personality humans and that element comes through in their clothes while not being the only thing ...
Always gotta follow the Trends in Shibuya. #TWEWY
Japan 😭😭❤❤
We need a podcast Reggie!
Damn reggie u guys are at 113k now! wow thats crazy..
I am not sure, so correct me if i'm wrong: I thought you said in earlier vids that Japanese street culture, and fashion in specific, is most of the times avant-garde compared to Western/US culture? That a lot of new fashion comes from small Japanese brands. That new styles are then incorporated by lets say Off-White.
The song?
the female voice sounds like miso
feel something- snake city
we will riot until you give us that opening song name
They don’t need to “borrow” nothing.. they, like all other countries in the world, are influenced in many different ways.. it can range from specific designers which will have their own “vision” & “ inspiration”to anything else that is out there (art, politics, etc) ..
I wanna ask about the ring you often have around your neck (not the feather). during my time in Japan, i noticed a lot of the younger guys wearing a metal ring around their neck. primary 15-18ish was wondering what was the ring's significance? or it is a trend set by a tastemaker I'm unaware of. big fan of your content btw
Who's the guy on the thumbnail? Great hairstyle
GJ 33 i’m curious too, looks dope
Please could you answer?
