Early 70’s my father and I were fishing 3-4 Km off Seacliff Beach Adelaide South Australia 5.5 metre Great White came to visit our 4.2 metre runabout ..fantastic once in a life experience ..absolute gift…I will never forget it even 50 years later. Wonderful💫
Fantastic footage, guys, you're very lucky; meeting a great white in the wild (from a boat!!) is one of my biggest dreams and I much prefer these home made footages than most documentaries with dramatic music and silly comments about killer sharks or crap like that. This is the real thing. Thanks for sharing
Except that you still got crappy comments and one way conversations from a couple of lily white landlubbers who don’t know what to do with a boat. I’d go for the professional footage with intelligent comments!
@@BenDover-sl1tl you don’t know what will happen. It’s not a given that he will eat you since you don’t look like food. If you have a clue which these guys do not, you could probably get in the water with her. Not recommended of course, but it’s not a guarantee that he will make lunch out if a human being. Bending over of course is an invitation so I wouldn’t do that if I were you! :-)
Why? There's a guy on YT who capture drone footage of white sharks and they are constantly encountering people in the water, just checking them out then wandering off. The consensus is that they only chomp people by mistake. I would much rather be in the water with a white shark than in the vacinity of a wild lion for instance.
Most times you cannot see the shark in the water whereas in the wild, chances are you see or hear the lion before it gets ya. But if your in an open top Jeep on safari your safe from lions :)
Its much scarier when your on a surfboard. Bull sharks are scarier in my world because they have the highest testosterone of any shark. Making them more aggressive. They also swim far up into the fresh water estuaries in late summer. I am an active waterman and have to put the thoughts completely out of my head. I was doing hull maintenence on my sailboat a while back and I dove into the water and started swimming down the keel and completely startled a 10 foot bull shark. I think I scared him as much as he scared me.
@@BenDover-sl1tl By the time you see the lion he’s on top of you. The lion is interested in eating you the shark is not that’s what’s important unless you don’t care about getting eaten
Glad you guys had a quality camera to capture something like this, ive always been fascinated by sharks, but at the same time that natrual fear. Take care
I know one of the fellas in this video - James - great guy who made his yacht available to many groups of disadvantaged Aussies who would never have had the opportunity to go sailing. Check him out. Amazing story.
Wow that was definitely a close encounter!! Thank you for sharing with us your amazing experience! Hope you’ll remember to wear your PFDs in the future. Take care!!
Without a doubt, the best video I have seen while encountering GWW. You guys obviously know you were lucky, I have seen vids of smaller whites that have rammed boats (bigger than yours).
Absolutely brilliant footage, and commentated by 2 Aussies as well 😂😂 you lads are a lot bolder than I would of been that’s for sure I would of been in the bar at the marina by now
Ion the other hand would’ve hung around as long as the shark did too! The assumption that you are a meal is mistaken unless you’re a fish, or a seal or something familiar that he recognizes his food.
There is no aggression in that shark's body language, it's like... "hey, supp" Most injuries come from the constant failure of attacking sea lions. I can just imagine how jacked up these guys would get if their outboard didn't start right away.
when they put their heads up like that, they are checking out who and what is in the boat - you can be sure of that. Was not interested in the squid they tossed out of the boat!
I think I would have stuck around!! It’s such an amazing experience for you both and the shark was probably checking out some new scenery way out there!!
Yeah, I don't know why they are so surprised, I live about 45 minutes from where they are (near Barwon Heads) we see quite a few big sharks while diving, including great whites.
The reason it didn’t attack is because you didn’t act like prey. Most Prey animals would flee. You could actually see its curiosity when it surfaced to put its eye out of the water to see what was up. I doubt it wanted to eat you. They are like the dogs of the ocean and about the same intelligence it’s thought. Great footage guys thanks for sharing.
Id always look for tags on big ones might be one never seen before. Shows how big they get i love how they dont run away and actully come over to check out the boats their was one that jumped up and took a kid out of a boat
this is incredible. Since they're ambush predators I thought it was just being curious, but the footage at 2:38 it literally pops its head out of the water to get a closer look at them. That added with it becoming more and more bold bumping into the boat it very much seems like the shark is trying to workout how to get them in the water. Imagine how many times some one has been in a kayak or on a much smaller life raft (from a ship wreck or something) and this started happening. Stuff of nightmares but also shows how intelligent they are considering that is in no way how they normally hunt. Just them problem solving on the fly.
at 2:38 the shark MOST DEFINITELY DOES NOT!! repeat DOES NOT!! ‘pop its head out of the water to get a better look at them” and in fact the white (underwater) eye is white, indicating that at that proximity to the engine, the shark’s protective nictating membrane was engaged It couldn’t actually see anything at that point
@@waynefay8210 oh good eye weirdly passionate man, perhaps it flinched from getting so close to the engine and that's why it popped part of its head out. At first glance I thought that was a reflection off the water from the sun.
Glad your starter was working! He was definitely at a high curiosity level & scary to think if one of you fell in he'd have likely gone in hunting/feeding mode. Seemed very hungry to me & looking for opportunity. 😲
They say, and drone footage shows this, that you often never know if sharks are around or under you. There's guys go out on those paddleboard-type canoes fishing! great footage guys. lucky it didn't chew on the prop... we used to live in Minapre St. Lorne in the 70's - 90's. we didn't see any large sharks around at the beach but they are there for sure. they come along the southern coast and i've seen sharks like this when fishing in Bass Strait outside The Rip. plenty of them in the Great Australian Bight and around Kangaroo Island.
