  • Our Volvo 850 has been loosing coolant from the heater and so we replaced it. We also had a bad fuel smell when the tank was full, which was caused by a bad fuel pump seal. Lastly, we replaced the coolant reservoir as the aftermarket one we got was already turning completely yellow.

    - Project’s Background Story -
    On February 21 ’09 our dad bought this ’96 Volvo 850 2.5L 20V estate. The Volvo has a big emotional value for us and seeing the car sitting still for so many years and watching nature taking over broke our hearts. After nine years, and sitting outside for 7 of those 9 years, we finally got our hands on the 850 and brought it back home where we will restore it to its former glory. Once we finish the restoration, we intend to make a road trip and keep in the family for many more years to come.

    No need to remove console, very good design.

    My heater core just broke literally an hour ago. Some damp light smoke started to come from the vents, nasty smell. The car was idling at a parking stop after some fast driving. I think i caught it before the engine actually overheated because the temperature needle was still nice in the middle. *fingers crossed*.

    So good to see you guys use the vacuum coolant filler. Those things are the only true way to make sure you have no leaks and purge any air from the system. For the Audi world it's a necessity. Fuel pump rings on these cars are SUCH a pain. I bet it took me a full hour to get mine on and ensure it wasn't cross threaded. Keep us posted on why that ring wasn't the right size. Great work!

    there is a drain plug for coolant on the radiator btw

      Yes we know. But although we like the Nissens brand so far, that plug is a little fragile and well, doing it this way was a lot more dramatic (unintentionally)😅😜

    definitely what i needed. One of the best videos about the heater core. I failed to replace the quick coupling and now seeing that you did it and how you did it will make my life a bit easier :-D. Just one question. The quick coupling comes also with all rubber o-rings ? meaning the ones that go to the pipes, except the one that goes to the heater core of course.

      Thanks! Glad we can be of any help😊.
      The coupling we got came with the o-rings pre-installed on the engine side.

      @@MusTRitch Thanks for your answer. So basically only the orings going into the heater core needed to be replaced / installed ?

    Hey jongens! Met Chris alweer uit de Eifel:D
    I also had to replace the seal of the gas tank and after I failed installing the new oem volvo ring I realized that you can install the part (you got the right ring) but ONLY with this stupid installation tool from volvo especially for this ring.... just fyi :D

    • @MusTRitch
      @MusTRitch  4 месяца назад

      Hey Chris! Really? That is the correct ring (3501322) but can only be installed with a special tool from Volvo? Did we read that right?😅

    Sounds like you may have a sticky lifter, or could be bad oil sump o-rings @ 17:03. Does the sound go away after a few minutes?

    • @MusTRitch
      @MusTRitch  4 месяца назад

      @rboyce1000 The sound does go away after a few minutes indeed. We were suspecting the waterpump but that is not it (you'll see why in the coming videos😅). Could it also be the oil pump?

      @@MusTRitch From what I have heard from my Volvo mechanic friends, this is usually o-rings at the oil sump pickup causing air to leak into the oil. If not, then next step would be to remove valve cover and replace any sticking (or all) lifters. Oil pumps rarely go on these cars and I would not suspect that with no low oil pressure light (even then...) Love the videos!!

      @rboyce1000 Alright, thanks man! We'll definitely look into those oil sump o-rings!

    Where do you source your OEM parts from? I need to order a new PCV system kit as well as the heater core, I wanna follow RobertDIY's advice not to use aftermarket parts for those but all the usual suppliers are US based and shipping costs a fortune if they even ship to Europe

    • @MusTRitch
      @MusTRitch  4 месяца назад

      @Hispa Most of the OEM parts we buy come from estateservices.nl (based in the Netherlands).
