And I think with many players as well in the past. So for sure it's a bit unfair to other players. More unfair in my opinion are the WC that Murray and Kyrgios get for every tournament they want to play and that this WC don't go to young players of the country where the tournament takes place to give them the chance to play.
What upsets me the most about RG is that in rounds 1-2-3 on the center courts (Chatrier, Lenglen), 80% of the seats are not taken. These seats are "sold" to business partners who do not show up. I was at RG with my father a few years back. We wanted to buy tickets for the center court (Federer) but they said "Il n'y a plus de tickets --> There are no more tickets". We ended up on court 3, and the big screen available to all visitors showed an empty center court. This is extremely frustrating. RG does not give a shit about the spectators. They care about their business deals. They could at least resell all empty seats on the main courts, starting 1 hour before the games begin. The players would also appreciate more spectators, but the cocky RG organisation does not care. Somehow the French always want to be different. You will never see this at any other Grand Slam
That is simply not true, I know someone who was on Philip Chatrier yesterday and through the pictures, the stadium was full. It wasn’t even possible for him to move down and get better (unoccupied) seats than his and ended up near the top of the stadium
Rune looked great today! Bright future for sure. I feel for Tsitsipas. This was without a doubt one the smoothest paths to a grand slam final round he could’ve gotten
Congrats to Rune! I remember that he took a set off Djokovic in the first round of the US Open last year. And now he beat the French Open finalist (Tsitsipas) from last year.
Roger is invasive player as I like to say. Roger is elegant, clinical, tender, polished and tricky in the same time. Roger takes time from the opponent. Compared to Roger, Stefanos is too stiff, less flashy, less resilient, just less tricky to play especially on very fast surface. Still doesn't matter I think Stefanos is great player and bright future, Rune was playing absolutely fantastic this tournament. I was watching every match, was so solid, brilliant, Rune... 👍🏼😊
I have to agree. Rune has great variety of shots like Carlitos, he doesn't have the power, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't make things really difficult if they played each other.
Oh wow! I for sure wasn’t expecting this result. Not that Rune hasn’t been playing well, I mean that guy is just amazing. But given Tsitsipas’s impeccable track record on clay I wasn’t expecting this result. But super happy with how it turned out to be. Rune played those big points so well. Amazing nerves and maturity. Also, props to Roland Garros for the shittiest highlight reels as always. You guys don’t deserve viewers for these. Just that one doesn’t have any other choice to watch the highlights for now.
Alcaraz, sinner and rune will completely destroy the generation of tsisipas, zverev and rublev. I just love how rune was playing with guts, dictating the game, and only at 19! This guy is too good.
This guy Rune dropped just one set and has beat two top players in the top 15. That says alot. This tournament right now is filled with talent in these quarterfinal brackets. The winner is gonna be a worth one as everyone is getting tough brackets. Nadal had aussillime whos fast and grinds then Djokovic, then alcarez then medvedev. Same for Djokovic if he wins. Crazy matches. Great for the game
Stefanos is a champion in many ways…his love for tennis is there, but his passion for life and travel may come first. He needs to do things his way, and will excel!!!
Novak really destroyed Tsitsipas mentality in last year RG finals. Stef hasn't be looking like himself ever since, he need to change something if he want to achieve another level.
U can't blame Novak if Steph does not have heart! How do u think Novak felt when Stan beat him at FO after beating Rafa that year?! He didn't sulk for a whole year!! Losing matches you should have won has happened to all of the top 3. Do you see them burying their heads in the sand?! Tsistipas needs to grow a pair!! Like Rafa always says, it's what happens on the court that counts, - not what's on paper!!! Play ure game and play to win, at least you know u gave it ure all!! Also, a lot of these tennis players need to learn to enjoy the game! They take themselves too seriuosly as well!
No tenía dudas de que Rune era favorito en este encuentro, viene haciendo un año consagratorio. Tsisipas, siempre da oportunidades. Mi única duda era si iba a jugar bien los puntos importantes y lo hizo espectacular 🙌

Started following Rune on insta, seemed a really well rounded young player - but my, he's making the world look at him now! Congrats, on to the next round
Tsisipas is the first of the ex next Gen to feel the pain constantly of the youngsters, first Alcaraz now Rune. On the other hand Rune is still miles behind Alcaraz, Tsisipas gave him many free points on unforced errors and was close to breaking him twice with Rune serving for the match, he showed some (natural) hesitation to close the match that I haven't seen from Alcaraz or Sinner yet
@@broendbykim My comment was in reply to the surprisingly many people making comments here that Rune will be a future legitime rival to Alcaraz, comments like this one: "Holger and Alcaraz will dominate tennis for the next years". Havent seen that yet on the basis of this match. He played superb and attacking tennis but Tsisipas gave him many free points on the crucial games, I didnt say that Tsisipas was the better player or that the game should have been more balanced on the score
People here doesn't seem to know that tsitsipas is only 23. Saying that he has been defeated by a next gen guy is pure rubbish. He has many years of great tennis ahead of him.
@@siriusblack5187 Ok that's a huge exaggeration, completely untrue. We have seen multiple players win slams at the actual age of 35 so you really can't say 23 is equal to 35. If Tsitsipas doesn't win a slam in the next 5 years then you can say this.
@@Nyphe No i don't meant it as tennis age. I was just saying that for a tennis player being 23 is not the same as a normal person being 23. Considering that a regular Joe will start working in his early twenties and will keep on working till mid/late fifties. For such a person being 23 is just a start of career. For a pro tennis player he is already 5 years into a career of 15-16 years. Hence the approximation of it being 35 years. Achievements and maturity should reflect that stage of the career by then that's all I am trying to say
@@siriusblack5187 But keep in mind that at 15-16 even if you have started your career, you are a junior. You have to work your way up slowly. You have to face the big players in the big tournaments to gain experience. Usually for a special talent, this will be by the age of 20-21, if you are a child prodigy like Nadal/Alcaraz, slightly earlier. Point is 23 is about 3 years after you get into the elite top level where things work differently. It's like getting a much more demanding, skillful and important job in a bigger company, yes you can have prior experience but in some ways you're still young and immature there. Also we have to consider for maturity that even if their career started earlier their physical and mental ageing is still the same as any human being.
Stef still has the potential BUT his development has clearly stagnated. He has to make rapid changes on his staff/trainers and stabilise his FH( many unforced errors without risking) while improving step by step his BH( on RG his BH was defensive and rarely he was aggressive)
Plus Rune is 1m88 so has more raw potential than Alcaraz. Alcaraz is below the top 10 average size of 190, and even below the top 500 average size of 185 at just 182cm (smaller than 183cm players like Gasquet). That's why he is sometimes vulnerable on his service games. Rune has more ease on serve. Alcaraz literally has no serve down the T because of his size, he serves further away from the T and so he never hits a clean T serve. His smaller wing span is sometimes also a trouble, even though he tries to compensate with speed, as Ramos exposed in their 5 set match. Holger's average shot speed is actually faster than Alcaraz's by 5kmh (179 vs 175 on FH, 177 vs 173 on the BH, 192 vs 189 on First Serve, 164 vs 160 on second serve. Their drop shots are equally good, and I feel Holger's FH is actually more solid overall. They are pretty evenly matched, Alcaraz has more of Federer's instinctive hitting but Holger has more power and makes fewer unforced errors.
@@pureffm Alcaraz is 185cm same height as Nadal and Federer, Djokovic is just 3cm taller than them. I don't think when someone is already more than 180cm it matters how tall they are, those that are below 180cm do truly suffer from that and I respect Diego for being such a player being shorther than 170cm. Said this, they're both great players, doesn't matter who hits harder or who's taller to be honest.
@@RickiTaKa no, unfortunately thee stat on ATP is wrong, if you look at hand shakes Carlos is one inch shorter than Nadal, and even a tiny bit shorter than the 183cm players like Gasquet, Ruud, De Minaur. The average size of the top 10 is 190cm, even within the top 500 the average size is 185. Wing span matters in tennis, it is no coincidence that Federer reversed his rivalry against Nadal when he opted for the modern racquet size, it served his BH tremendously. If we are talking about small margins, than a player like Holger who already has the same movement speed and shots 5kmh faster than Carlos on FH, BH and serves, having a longer wing span is what makes the difference. In fact wing span is directly correlated with average shot speed because of the lever effect and reaching a bit further on both sizes. Of course it's not everything in tennis, but at am equal movement speed, mentality, and tennis IQ, wing span makes the difference. It is too early to tell whether Rune will end up dominating Alcaraz but he certainly has the potential to do so. Zverev has more powerful shots than either of them and yet he lacks shot variety, mentality and tennis IQ. Novak FH and BH averages are not fantastic but his shot precision and timing are incredible. We will have to see the rivalry play out.
A great win for Rune!!👏👏👏. He’s been “semi” quietly improving his game and it’s paying off. He’s not afraid of anyone and seems to work hard on the court. Good for him.
It really didnt. Tsitsipas has no fight, he should have challenged. That game was crucial because Rune was becoming mentally exhausted getting so close to winning. So if he had lost that game it would have been 5-5, and Tsistipas would have been favorite to win the set and then the match
It’s just a bad view of the baseline you can never tell from this angle. When they show the real angle or mark it’s always different than I see from this view 🤷♂️
What an upset 🤯 Clearly, 19-year-old Holger Rune pull off an stunning upset to defeat World no.4 Tsitsipas 👏 A new generation is coming for a bright future 🌟 Wishing him best of luck in QF
Not surprising. Stefanos has been in a slump since his last year's final loss (playing poorly the whole year despite the occasional success), Holger has been on the rise. Stefanos was despondent the whole week, wasn't even angry today. He looks resigned against the younger, athletic guys increasingly often, clumsy and heavy. Can't keep the ball in court in longer rallies, his defence is poor, backhand doesn't exist. But well done Holger, a very likeable player.

Tsitsipas is mentally weak. That is why he's a nobody.
I think Stef needs to get a new coach. having his father I think is a bit limiting. be good to have a fresh pair of eyes on his game, and work on his bad attitude. he wasn't gracious in defeat, he could barely muster up some words of recognition for his opponent in the presser.
This match reminds me a lot of what Alcaraz did to Tsitsipas in New York last year. That match really announced the arrival of Carlos and I think this match announced the arrival of Rune. Poor Stefanos. Always having to be the one that loses.
There goes the last single hander in the draw :( But to be honest, Tsisipas doesn't seem to have that Bazooka backhand shot in his repertoire like Thiem or Wawrinka. His backhand shot will be a loopy topspin shot for 90% of the time (also his slice is unnaturally weak for single-hander) and his opponents are taking him for granted on that wing.
I would also say his forehand is less powerful. Forehand simetimes seems to lack that flat through the court that someone like Federer uses to finish the point or set up the easy volley.
yeah bc modern tennis favors stable two handers. the best or above average two handers >>>> the best one handers (aside from wawrinka in 2015 in a one in a million match against djokovic at rg)
Yes, he has less powerful backhand BUT on the other hand he has ability to play better ANGLES. His game use more geometry of the court. Look at Federer (20 grand slam titles)- less power but more angles also beats Wawrinka almost all the time.
Last player with one handed backhand who hit number one in the world was Federer in 2018. I don’t think we will ever see another one handed backhand player becoming number 1. Lucky to see Roger winning with magic.
Lol, there have been so many young players in the last 10 years that played one tournament well and did not follow up with a consistent high level play. Anyone remembers hype about baby Federer (Dimitrov)?
I feel Tsitsipas was off this time during the whole tournament. Its ok to go at 5 sets with Musetti but 5 sets second round or losing to no40 is kinda awkward. Rune played really good but i feel that he didnt won the game, it was just Tsitsi losing it. Tsitsi has a complete game maybe the best forehand on tour, great net play, very good serve, very offensive, big variety, extremely good movement. His only flaws are his drop shots and his backhand which last year seems inconsistent. But his greater flaw is his mindset, he seems like he thinks sth else all the time. Grats to Rune!
The Next Gens wanted to replace the BIGs and dominate the tour. Now, while the BIGs keep dominating in the Big Slams, the Nexts are being replaced themselves by the teens lol
This is a remarkable thing happening in the men's game. Holger, FAA, Carlos amidst others are spicing up and forever changing the game for the better. Stefanos was playing so well, but in my opinion lacks weapons to hurt this bumper crop of young guns.
He is not playing as well as last year and althpugh playing better than the second half of last year is not playing as well as the first half of last year. I trust he will get more serious and focused.

Tsitsipas and Mouratoglou have been working together since 2014. But Mouratoglou is not a personal coach for these players, they need someone just for themselves. I think Tistsipas needs someone who fixes his backhand technique, neither his father nor Mouratoglou have been able to do anything with it.

he does. but 23 in tennis is not ordinary 23
Problem is he'll have many great years. Just doesn't look like he'll have any extraordinary ones. And yes, 23 is like 35 in tennis
RG highlights NEVER include the hand shake. I always enjoy seeing the player interaction after the match - the warm and the cold.
Stef still has the potential BUT his development has clearly stagnated. He has to make rapid changes on his staff/trainers and stabilise his FH( many unforced errors without risking) while improving step by step his BH( on RG his BH was defensive and rarely he was aggressive)
Another young star in the making.
Okay, Holger Rune is actually the real deal. Alcaraz has been stealing all the shine, but Holger Rune showed today that he is right there.
We shall see, there is more matches to be played and WON. Let's not give the winners trophy out today , ok?

This match reminds me a lot of what Alcaraz did to Tsitsipas in New York last year. That match really announced the arrival of Carlos and I think this match announced the arrival of Rune. Poor Stefanos. Always having to be the one that loses.

Lovely fight and great seeing Rune winning👍🎾🥇
I also tend to always root for the guys with one handed backhand...

Tsitsi has a complete game maybe the best forehand on tour, great net play, very good serve, very offensive, big variety, extremely good movement. This is a welcoming return to the 90's tennis when upset can happen at any moment. The Federer, Nadal, Djokovic Era was actually quite boring. Every time I heard someone saying we were "lucky" to be watching the three "GOATs", I cringed. I can't wait for the silly Slam race to end forever, and it's only possible for these threes to win that many only because they had no worthy challenge. At least Federer had Djokivic and Nadal as young challengers, but Nadal and Djokivic had none until possibly now. And it's way too late. Federer had to deal with Nadal and Djkovic when he was still in his 20's.

@@ramonecricket5183 sounds like you're the one who's obsessed with records of certain players. The domination of Federer was not as boring as Nadal's because he had both Nadal and Djokovic on his heel very soon into his career. Rune had a stunning performance today! Tsitsipas played only solid, but Rune was much better. With this confidence, and form, I could see him beating Ruud...
Who will win Roland Garros, what do you think?
@@ilijaperic8064 Novak is most likely to win if he beat Nadal. In my opinion one of them will... Maybe Alcaraz, but maybe...
I feel like you didn’t watch the match, because the level was very low from both players for a lot of the match.
@@clay9969 From the very 1st minute to the last one... Rune played very good, he had some downfalls, true, but overall, very good performance for his age.
Tsitsipas played badly
Please show the players meeting at the net rather than cut coverage as soon as match point is finished. Thanks
To me it seemed that this FO had an extremely lopsided draw from the beginning - just an uneasy feeling. Now it turns out that the four top rated guys are gathering in one half of the draw for the quarterfinals. Anything can happen.
@Rafa undisputed Goat We will see
Fantastic!
That last hit from Tsitsipas seemed in for me
I agree it was IN
@@marianagaoka9687 If you watched live they replayed with hawk eye and it was very out.
To me it seemed out. But its really close. I dont understand why he dosnt at least try and get a look at it. Cause it could definitely have been in.
to me it looks just wide, but honestly its too close to call.
@@morten123456789 really? It looked even inside the baseline to me. Didn't watch the match so I don't know if Tsitsipas had any challenges left.
@@Jordan-zi3re no I can't watch live because of time differences, it's aywful, hawk eye and was out? okay, It must be this highlight video then.
Well done Holger Rune 👏👏
Tsitsipas needs to change racquet and coach. He needs more firepower
3 minutes of highlights. Good one
This match Rune just couldn’t miss the line. 🤯
And you couldn't just miss an opportunity to dis Holger Rune.
@@broendbykim Two days ago this child kept calling Holger Rune a defensive player, nobody should take this user seriously. He is just butthurt (literally)
The match point call looks in!
wow...it is possible that the final would be fought by two teenagers, Alcaraz and Rune.
Hoping Carlos and Holger have an epic rivalry
Stefanos needs to inject power in his backhand and add slice into his game
We know lol
Ikr his backhand is so weak lol
He needs good drop shots.
@@innosanto That and a good slice would help a lot.
Babolat Pure Aero VS: The racket of choice of the next Gens
Rune has quality like Alcaraz
Rune is amazing, I knew he was something special from that first match against Novak where he just didn’t want to retire but was forced to. What a fighter
He didn't retire. He played the whole match despite suffering from cramps. Even Djokovic was surprised that Rune didn't give up after the third set.
@@osche87 you are right, he’s even more impressive, he also won his match against that classless French man wile having cramps and the whole stadium booing him. He’s so tough
