I’ve never commented before but wanted to say you have helped me tremendously with my approach to homeschool and just getting through it with my girls. They are in a private school this year, it’s their first year not being homeschooled and of course all my fav homeschool content creators are popping up and I’m feeling all the feels. I just wanted to say oh my goodness, I can’t believe you’re doing a 7th grade curriculum review!! I followed from the start, these kids grow up too fast. It just flies by 🥲 Great job as always!!
I’m down to my last child being homeschooled, so it’s a very strange feeling being just us two in the house all day. He’s in 6th grade, and I, too feel the academic push as we enter middle school. I don’t know why I stress myself out, having graduated two and another this year. But I do! I have to keep reminding myself that relationship is foremost; everything else is gravy. Love your videos and can’t wait to hear a review on Dennison. I’m a skeptic because everyone raves about it. Hope your school year gets off to a great start!
Only 5 min in and I resonate so much with what you’re saying about lack of connection in homeschooling, how it can become a list of boxes to just check off.. thank you for sharing because I’m trying to realign our schedule with our initial purpose of homeschooling again
I have a huge 8th grader this fall. I have a similar goal to try and keep connection and be more involved when I can be. We're trying Sonlight for the first time using the history of science J. We'll be using math u see algebra 1 and subbing out Sonlight grammar and spelling for fix it grammar and spelling you see but using Sonlight for our writing projects. My first grader will be doing math with confidence and AAR2 along with schoolhouse discovery unit studies. Pre-K will be doing gather round letters and numbers
LOVE all this. I guessed you might be switching to Denison, it is on my radar for my daughter in a year or so. We started using Fix It Grammar for my older 2 a few years ago, and they seem to enjoy it and will continue this year. I am really excited to hear more Lit Studies are coming! We enjoyed the Christmas Carol study so much. I am still deciding on what to do for us. The middle school years are so hard for allllll the reasons you mentioned. The connection is harder and has to be more intentional. The feeling of needing to do more...but having so many more activities outside the home has become a really hard balance here. We will have activities 7 days per week this fall😅 yikes! This year we were going to do American History together, but my middle wants to do History of Science, so we are going to split and have everyone do their own thing for history. My brain sort of feels like a whirlpool with all the decisions swirling around with last minute changes in plans for topics of study. My daughter is also doing Mary's 11to13 class. She is so excited for the book choices, especially Last Mapmaker. She read it twice last school year and can't wait to read it again😂
If we lived closer to things we would be out of the house every day too. But with it being an hour drive to anywhere I have to limit us to 3-4 days a week or else we would never be home!
@@TheWaldockWay absolutely! Luckily most of their activities are at our YMCA so I can workout. The other 3 are near excellent outdoor walking spaces so I do that during. Makes it more doable for me knowing I am getting in some self care!
I’m so excited for your math guide! Math and I are not yet friends, and Kyra is not yet friends with math, either, so I think real life math will be very helpful!
This year, I have a 5th grader, a 1st grader, and a preschooler. I was crazy enough to pick Abeka for my oldest, Book Shark for my middle, and I'm doing The Good and the Beautiful for the little one. Abeka has been very rigorous, and of course, I had to pick a heavy literature-based program for my daughter that doesn't like to sit still. I guess I like to challenge myself. I got a ton of games but with these curricula it's virtually impossible to have time to play them so I'm low key regretting my choices. 😭
Random question. We are redecorating our school wall in the dining room and the maps I currently have are just too big, but it is killing me because I love them! Where did you purchase the map that is behind you?
Thanks for sharing! I was planning on using Masterbooks again for math but now am definitely checking out Dennison! We have an only also (7th grader) , and I feel what you day about the connection! Is science mandatory for you? Is that what you use the steam kits for??
In Florida there isn't anything that is mandatory persay. But all of our geography, history, and science is done using Unit Studies. But the kits have a fair share of science as well.
I don’t homeschool. I do have an only child. Who is 26 years old. That is one of the things. I want to work on is our connection. He lives on his own and has 3 year old daughter. Who is adorable.
Is denison good for an 8th grader who struggles with math? He has done math u see and only made it through the fractions level. We are trying out bju press this year.❤
I am looking at denison pre-algebra. I have a 12 yr old who struggles with math a lot i think becuase she just doesnt like it. Shes in 6th but we really cant get math down. She hates teaching textbooks. I was wondering if the review in denison would be enough ornif i should find something else before we start it.
I read The Giver in middle school as well and it still remains my favorite book of all time!
Fix it! Grammar also sells cards that my boys find helpful.
We are using Deison for our 7th grader as well! He & I are both loving it!
I love what you said about connection, I can so resonate with it
this is my priority as well this school term❤

You are so sweet to comment. I can't believe we're doing a 7th grade either 😩😱 Thank you for being her for so long.

Homeschooling an only child does feel different, but you can make it so much fun!

I'm so glad! And best of luck with your realignment. You can do it!
@@TheWaldockWay ❤️❤️❤️
My 15 yr old is in denison geometry and its a game changer!!!
I am excited to see how it works for us.
We are reading The Giver this year too! I think my daughter will love the book and the movie!
Also… yay for new novel studies!

Sounds like a great year!
We love Mary’s book clubs!!! I have a kiddo in the 8-10 and 11-13 book clubs. We are also using the Traveling States unit study 😊
So many similar things! 🥳

We love miss Mary's book club!
Aren't they great?
@TheWaldockWay I love the questions that she asks. She really gets the kids to think.
We plan to use Denison this year also ❤
Love the discovery decks 🙌🏻
I'm so happy to hear that!

This sounds like it's going to be a fun year!
Would love to see your daily/weekly flow on a schedule.
Once we get going and get the kinks worked out I will try to get this done!
@@TheWaldockWay Can't wait! 😄
We are doing well with Denison
Where can I get the Before Personal Finance?
beyondpersonalfinance.com/
I love all of your tops! Can you share where you buy them? 🌻💕
I get everything from Amazon because it's just too easy not too, lol. Here is a link to the top I'm wearing: amzn.to/3WNwboN

We found it at Hobby Lobby a few years ago.

I have heard it is. Emily has never been exceptional at math and it is working great for her!
Where can I get the Before Personal Finance book?
I found it on Rainbow Resource website

Very interesting. I don't know why I haven't watched sooner.
Uncle Johnny 😉
🤣🤣 I don't know why either, it's the BEST channel out there. Love you Uncle Johnny! 😘😘
Are you going to do an updated car school video. Since you mentioned that you are out of the house at 3 days a week.
I will add that to the list!

Wow, I cannot believe Emily is in 7th grade now. Do you plan to continue homeschooling through high school?
We do!
You’re nails are beautiful
Thank you 😘
Planet earth is blue is a good novel
Thanks!
Were you still using Life of Fred for math until this point?
We did the entire Elementary series, and Teaching Textbooks Math 2 through 6.
Good video. Can you split it into chapters, like on the timeline. I cant sit through the whole vid.
22 minutes is not a long video.
I also speed up the video at x1.5 speed
I will be honest, I don't know how to do that. But I will look into it.
