I respect Nathan East so much as a musician. He seems so humble, yet he can literally play anything. He can blend into any genre with ease and he makes every artist that he performs with sound fantastic. Nathan is the quintessential bassist.
I think we need to say big thanks for sound engineer who recorded this music in this phenomenal quality .
I think we'd be better served if someone familiar with the identity of the sound engineer and mixer and lighting, etc. would kindly come forward and share with the world their name(s), who they are, whether they are still alive, who they now work with, etc. etc. The production side has always been a hidden aspect of the business and the fame/celebrity of people who stand up there and "just play".....if you get my drift. Fourplay wouldn't be Fourplay if they didn't have consummate pro's in the sound booth, in the entourage that packs/unpacks/sets up their equipment and all that. Let's get some names....at the very least.
I agree 100%.......the sound mixing & quality is outstanding. Just a tad heavy on the bass.....only very minor fault.

Some of the most skilled, gifted, respected, accomplished, and recorded musicians and singers on the planet!!!
I've been listening to Four Play for the past couple of years now. It's the best creative music ever. I listen to it everyday. It puts me in a good mood. Especially when I'm busy with chores around the house.
RIP My dad - Thank you for this good music am still playing it.
This is why musical instruments were invented and created. Pure talent like these guys have will always shine through. Real music, real musicians .. no artificial sounds, no artificially created bands, no stupid special effects to disguise the little or no talent that a lot of so-called bands have these days.
And no cheeks with naked asses
Simply one and only foursome Musicians how show us what music this "kind" is supremely felt and played. My awesome admiration to them, forever...Manu de Carvalho October 2021

Yes Indeed! Me too!!!
Same here ❤
Thanks. To see them play live is not from this planet. They are from a different world. The talent is unreal. 🤣🤣🤣
One of the bestjazz fourplay that ever played by four fathers,Bob James(pianist)Lee Riteour(guitarist)Nathan East (bassist)Harvey Mason(drummer)👏👏👏👏
One of the best jazz group ever.
It was wonderful seeing them live.
A good friend sent me this link. I'll be very grateful to him for a long time. This is beautiful
Orgazmint!!! Wow!!!
How about StepsAhead or Spyro Gyra?@@russellriley2417
At this late date, after several retired or passed guitar players, and everyone getting older, I say it would be wonderful timing to get someone in the band to author a bio or memoirs on what it was like to perform in this group and offer some insights on what the composition, rehearsal and personality process was like over last 3 decades with different configurations of the band. Bob would be an excellent person to put down some thoughts into the creative process and touring challenges.
No
@@tembazwane1489 why not?
Yeah, add my name to another on the petition for some memoirs or legacy history narrated by one of the guys, whether it be Bob James, Nathan or Harvey....maybe with some interview input and feedback from Lee and Larry at least. It's time to pull the curtain back on some of these groundbreaking bands rather than waiting for some history rewriters and agenda mongers like those involved with Beatles look-backs. What was it like to be in Fourplay? How did they get this good? Was it always amiable and friendly? Did the touring get tiring? Just the big picture stuff would be fun for some of us who follow music and certain genres/artists.
Only the greatChuck Loeb has passed on(RIP)...all the other present and former members are still playing. None retired... I had the honor of playing a show on bass with Bob James back in Dec.2019,and he was 80 at the time...still killing it! The only other members besides Lee Ritenour were Larry Carlton,Loeb, and Kirk Whalum.
I like that idea!!! 👌💘
Easily one of my favorite covers of "Between the Sheets" with Chaka, Philip Bailey and Phil Perry. So much talent on this jam.
Yes!
I need you to STOP with your Reminiscing😂but its soooo True!!!
I must say Fourplay is my favorite smooth jazz group. Bob James and the crew always do a fantastic job in the studio or on the stage. Nathan, Harvey and Lee are always fabulous. They have some of the best improvisation grooves around!
Fourplay is like watching 4 eagles soaring on a summer day, each taking inspiration and interpreting the winds of sound in their own way. I love this music!
Omg
Chant is the most perfect piece of modern music that I ever heard. It gives me goosebumps every time.
3 years later and I believe that still stands, my dad used to play the dvd when I was growing up and I never forgot it till this day
I've probably listened to this recording over a hundred times and can never get tired of the complexity yet the ease these masters display here... music like this lives on forever ❤
I'm just blown away by Phil Perry here. Incredible.
Simply magnificent! Grooving indeed …
You're gonna throw Fourplay at me....and then add Phillip Bailey and Phil Perry to the mix?!?! I'M IN!!
Knowledge. Plus Perry is from my hometown. E. St. Louis.
This Is Music!!!
I’m screaming this to my children and the youth of the neighborhood 😎💙😎
I do the same my friend, but disappointingly, they just don’t want to listen or understand it is a modern tragedy of the youth of today
@@richardfrancis7471 No, no. We have to keep putting Love on the youth. Show them the comparisons of today’s music that is SAMPLED by yesterday’s music. Embrace the struggle my friend 😀

6/23/24. Seeing this video reminded me how much I enjoy real music 🎶. Thank. Johnny
Four musicians that know what synergy is all about. Their melodies interlace with absolute precision. Each instrument seem to communicate with one another with ease and fluidity and the compositions put you in a relaxed and smooth state of mind. Great music for reducing your stress and anxiety after a day of hard work and coping with the daily grind of commuter traffic.
This is the best music that I've heard in a long time.....soothes my soul.
I hope you listen to Dave grusin.

My favorite Fourplay of all time: Bob James, Nathan East, Lee Ritenour and Harvey Masons
Yeah this was the original line up. Sometime later on Lee Ritenour was replaced by Larry Carlton who is yet another master in his own right.
Alll guitarrist from four play are excellwnts

Larry Carlton and GOD rest his soul Chuck Loeb are superb guitarist in their own right, however fOURPLAY was never the same once Captain Fingers departed! Hopefully he reunites with the guys and they bless us with new music and touring once we overcome the C19

Excellent comps, my fav musician - everyone after listening to them for decades!
...and they have Philip Bailey and Phil Perry as "BACK--UP" vocalists!!! Woooot! Smoothest of smooth jazz!
THE SOUND IS OUT OF THIS WORLD !
The cohesion of 4 playing as 1 is out of this world
Such beautiful music is “ageless”!!! I’m sure tons of info about this amazing group has been circulating from day one and now certainly there’s even more out there about them. It’s simply thrilling to sit back, chill and enjoy such unique and timeless entertainment!!! ❤

So smooth with this kind of music this jazz band never goes out of style 🤩

Growing up as a little boy I would watch my father jamming to this music with a whisky glass in his hand. A couple of years later I am jamming to the same music (with no whisky glass unfortunately) - I now understand why he loved this music so much, it is so soothing.
I named my son after Harvey and had the pleasure of meeting him in London after a gig at the Tower of London, where they performed with Al Jarreau and telling him, so it was a lovely moment
Double treat 4 u! I just saw video of that concert on RUclips, Al was great too.
That's. Good stuff
This I believe is the original lineup of FOUR PLAY. Absolutely awesome and simply out of this world. I was so lucky to procure the original DVD when it was released and I still have it with me. All musicians true masters and professionals in their own right.
Phillip Bailey and Chaka Khan it don't get any better than that
The best musicians ever ,i'm still in love with this jazz music . Thank you Four play.

Outstanding. One hour (plus) in heaven. Thank you so much for sharing this.
My Heroes... all of these champions have charted a course through time, a pathway to virtue and dignity through soul nourishing music. YEAH BABY!
This particular piece always spoke to my soul. A child of the 70-80s, for me it’s parallel to George Benson, George Duke, Najee, Jazz of that era. My Daddy and I would be out driving SOMEwhere. Naturally, most of these artists come from that era and I am grateful 🙏🏽.
Oh my gosh, where have you been!? YOU were my MOST favorite jazz group 20 years ago and lost track,,,, I was just going thru my jazz music for a listen and saw “Fourplay” and couldn’t believe it!!!! I have so missed you!!!
I am dying without fourplay..
Fell in love with this band since first listen to yes please and eastbound album
Music is so "timeless". 8 years old and still fantastic!
When you see musicians like this, l just think about what Passion and Gods gifts can do!
It is 2.30am 10 th Nov. 2020 ......I can not believe that all the years of playing and listening to jazz....this is the first time that I have EVER listened to these amazing musicians and their sound.I am 30 years too late!!
Never too late 🎶👌
Oh my goodness, what am I going to do with this spectacular sound? I simply love it!
this is what we called JAZZ
This is the most complete smooth jazz quartet.
Recorded in 1999. Fantastic recording…. Could listen 100 times and not get tired of it.
fOURPLAY original members Captain Fingers, Nathan, Bob and Harvey would never be duplicated. Arguably the most prolific at their craftsmanship! I truly enjoy the performance, timeless music
Lee'Ritenour,one of the best player.
No need to play fast, just serve & play what is needed for the song..
Agree.
If there is a heaven, this is the sound from there and certainly this group came from there and lives among us 🥰🥰🥰
The combination of these musicians doesn't get any better
Thanks to Bob, Nathan, Harvey, and Lee, Fourplay has introduced many jazz standards. This video record in particular stands out due to the exceptional quality of the recording, but Lee's solo performance on the song "Monterey" is also historically significant.
HI FROM INDONESIA.......BEST FOR FOURPLAY.
I was in my mid 20s when I heard and saw this video of four play and now I am in my mid 40s still into this brilliant band
Two of my favorite musicians from the 70s Bob And Lee playing together bloody brilliant. Go Fourplay.
I was in Lee Ritenours concert in Sweden. Was in 1,5meter distance from him. Amazing. So much positive! Nice times!...
Best smooth jazz live ever..
Way back in elementary school Chuck Mangione's Feels So Good is what got me started liking jazz. It was shortly after that that I found Fourplay and have loved listening to them ever since. I was probably in 6th grade when I started listening to Fourplay and my mom never heard of them before. I popped their CD in and said, "I LOVE Fourplay!" Her reaction was, "I beg your pardon?" "The music that's playing mom, the group is called Fourplay." 😬😂"Well that's kind of a bad name for a group!" "Well, there are four guys in the group." Not that there's anything wrong with foreplay. 😉
Mr. Mangione also got my ear and heart tuned into jazz music during my early high school days. Saw him twice and his great band at the Universal Amphitheatre, in LA with my then girlfriend, before graduation in '81. Will miss Chuck Loeb... another GREAT guitarist this band's last iteration has been. Hopefully the band will continue with another great guitarist addition!!!
Technically, neither Chuck nor Bob/Nathan, Harvey or Lee played straight jazz, JC. What they did parlay was in Chuck M's case was a unique melding of light jazz with rock/pop, they referred to it as jazz fusion I recall. Same with Fourplay.....their music was a more harmonic, linear, easier on the ear version of jazz that incorporated pretty simple to grasp melody lines throughout the instrumental tracks. But, no, this was not jazz. Straight jazz is a more abstract type of music where the compositions accentuate more complicated arrangements and more sophisticated chord patterns with extended musical digressions or solos that didn't necessarily track with the tune. Not important in the bigger scheme of things....but many music aficionados who take themselves very seriously don't even recognize smooth jazz as a legit music genre.
Natham cold as ice! Chaka is always a joy to hear and see!!! Saw her with Mike McDonald in 2020.
