If you remember in the first movie, they said "Son, your ego is writing checks your body can't cash. You've been busted, you lost your qualifications as section leader three times, put in hack twice by me, with a history of high speed passes over five air control towers, and one admiral's daughter!" Goose asked "Penny Benjamin?' Jennifer Connelly plays Penny Benjamin in this movie.
I've actually had people try to argue the Penny Benjamin part with me. And I tell them I have the DVD right here, I know it's Penny Benjamin. I've watched Top Gun a dozen times at least 😁
Thank you!!!! The first time I saw it in theatres I told my wife, "What?! That's Penny Benjamin!!!" It even says it in the credits! For some reason I thought I was the only one that caught that! From the beginning.
I think "It's like something from my youth has been completed" is the most beautiful description of what I feel for this movie! Perfect description, thank you!
The moment that really sold me on Penny was when Maverick was thrown out the bar, he hears Rooster doing "Great Balls Of Fire" and he (Mav) has the flashback of Goose, there's a moment where Penny looks at Mav and she realizes what's happening, she takes notice. It's a very small moment, but it really made me appreciate that character.
@@markymarknj Again, even without knowing the *specifics* she’s smart enough to connect the dots to know somethings up with him and one of the young pilots.
Jennifer Connely as "Penny Benjamin" is one of the biggest reminiscent factors of this movie. From the original, about 14 minutes in, Maverick and Goose are getting their asses chewed for not landing the plane to help their wingman Cougar. The Commander said "you've been busted five time, and put in hack by me, for high speed passes over five air control towers, and one Admiral's daughter." Goose then looks at Mav and whispers, "Penny Benjamin?" She was an interest of his from the original, and I thought it was interesting and cool to see how they reincorporated her character. Love your reacts, and can't wait for more. See ya
Most people don't figure out who Penny is on the first watch, it seems. Once you do, she feels very real and valid and carries a bunch of nostalgia with her to boot!
Penny was mentioned again later in the bar with Goose and his wife also in the first movie. The daughter also mentions how Pete at least recently, within her memory, dated her mom. So, it appears that Maverick has had an on again off again relationship with Penny for thirty years.
Leave her alone she just watches movies. Bet she would never recall the whole admiral's daughter thing till she reads the comments. She isn't a real Top Gun fan.
yeah when i was watching this one i kinda went back and watched the original because i only ever seen it on tv and never really saw the whole thing and i caught that line lol. it was that and i think she came up in conversation with goose's wife
Honestly I think Maverick having a love story makes a lot of sense. Jennifer Connelly's character and plot line were actually essential to the movie. #1, part of this movie's story for Maverick, besides the whole Goose's son plot, is him realizing he can't fly forever... as the Iceman says to him "It's time to let go.". The idea of a life outside of the cockpit, and the Navy, where he settles down with Jennifer Connelly makes it easier for us to root for than the idea of him retiring and just sitting around lonely as shit because he has no family/friends due to his entire life being about flying. #2, without her, all Tom's character is surrounded by is superiors who don't like him, or subordinates he is training. Connelly lets us see the human sides of Maverick, and lets Tom charm it up a bit. Without her we'd just have scenes of superiors or Rooster yelling at Maverick, or Maverick making the rookies look like little bitches in the air... thats it.
It’s kind of funny cus after they filmed this movie, Glenn Powell (Hangman) went and got his pilots license and when he did Tom (also being a real pilot) sent him a gift to welcome him to the pilots life. There’s a whole interview on it and it’s really cool.
Glen Powell is in another movie about pilots, the upcoming Devotion, about the first black aviator in US Navy history, Jesse Brown. Glen plays his wingman Tom Hudner.
I've seen this movie at least 20 times in the theater - 15 times in IMAX I've seen your reaction to this movie a good half-dozen times or so. Everytime I see Maverick's plane get shot down, I well up with tears. It gets me... Every. Single. Time. This movie is so great.
This film had no business being this good, let alone a sequel. I’ve seen this film in theatres five times (makes me an Ace! 🥁). Happy to see you have a fun watching. I highly encourage seeing it again in theaters when it re-releases again probably in November. On first viewing there were several of us in the audience that pointed at Iceman when Ice asks Mav who the best pilot was. (fun theater experience 😂) “I make movies for the big screen.” - Tom Cruise
The romance with Penny was part of Maverick's character "letting go" of the past and moving on. That's why I hope there is no sequel because the story of Maverick has been wrapped up perfectly.
I think there should be one, but with Tom Cruise and Jennifer Connelly only playing bit parts as Rear Admiral (retired), Pete Mitchell and his wife Penny Mitchell. Maybe Rooster Consults with his God Father or something like that. Kinda the way Mav and Ice did in this movie.
@@davidisles4009 I'd like to see another Top Gun, but have it center on Rooster, or perhaps Hangman. Mav could act as a mentor or something in a bit role.
To me the love story shows the progression of Pete Mitchell to me. He wasn’t Maverick to her like he was to Charlie. He was Pete, the man not just the pilot. The love scene was romantic and mature love and adoration not the lustful sex scene in the original. Even forgetting that Penny was referenced in the first film, the more adult version of the relationship also plays on the theme of aging and finding your place.
About "Great Balls of Fire"... I get the impression that Rooster is well known for performing that, probably going way back to his time at the academy. The way Phoenix looks when he sits down at the piano... she knows what's up. That's his thing. Everyone knows that song because everyone knows Rooster plays it whenever there's a piano laying around. It would make sense for the character...,singing that song with Goose was probably one of his last memories with his dad.
The way in which they handled the dialogue between Iceman and Maverick was perfect. They knew of Val Kilmer's speech limitations, and the writers scripted a scene that worked well within those limitations. It's what makes the interaction between the characters more poignant, as well as lending emotional weight to the moment.
That's Tom Cruise's own P-51 Mustang fighter in the end of the movie. Yes it's one of the most beautiful planes from WWII. Maybe 'Rooster' knew the song because his dad sang it when he was young and remembered it from back then. I've seen the movie and watched some reactions and I'm starting to understand why women can find this movie so good. It has a lot of emotions, tension, and it's very well shot, love the in plane shots of the actors. I'm a pilot and I love the flying scenes, but this movie has so much more. Loved your reaction, take care.
The P-51 is one of the most beautiful planes ever made, WWII or otherwise. It's classy, clean, and extremely sleek. It helps that it was also one of the most capable planes of the war (if not outright the best), lol.
The story between Maverick and Penny is the most practical thing in the movie for me...people like Maverick sometimes don't realize how much they need people and that's what Penny is to Maverick. Someone that, despite leaving behind over the years, has always been in his thoughts. Maverick is also incredibly skilled in the air and lucky. His character lives on breaking rules and getting bailed out of trouble. Penny is the only person who never bails him out. She makes him face his troubles head on.
This sequel hits so much because people like us grew up with the first one... My friends and I pretended to be Maverick Goose and Ice on the playground at school. My brother and I used to climb trees and pretend we were getting into an F-14 cockpit. Goose's death was the first movie death that meant something to me. I cried along with you. Great reaction.
I freakin' love when Rooster looks out the canopy by pressing his entire face on it and is like "Why are the wings coming out Mav?" lol, like he knows the reason, but is in denial and is hoping Mav will give some other explanation for it, haha
Having watched the original more times than I can remember this movie was everything we could of hoped for, even small things like the admirals daughter being brought in. smiled and cried the whole way through it 😂
Love ur reaction. I'm an assistant manager for Cinemark theaters. I worked on opening night of Top Gun Maverick and my theater had IMAX. It was a sold out show and we had soo many veterans and active military especially pilots watching the movie. As I went in often to do theater checks, watching all their reactions made me smile and cry. I was born in 84 so I grew up on the original Top Gun so I definitely loved it. This movie has done well over a billion dollars world wide. Tom Crusie did a great job to make this movie as close to real and authentic as he could. It was also filmed with specially made IMAX cameras in the cockpit. #Stay Blessed
Couldn’t agree more: there are definitely some elements of high fantasy in it. But dammit, what a fantastic moviegoing experience, especially in light of how so many of our nostalgic films have been wrecked in recent years. This movie was just what the doctor ordered at such a needed time. What a wonderful movie!
@@pancakelens75 Military enemies of America definitely didn't like the pro-military overtones. But it's because they are scared. No other military in the world has serviceable 5-Gen airplanes. Russia and China claim to have them but they aren't true 5-Gen as they don't know how to do it all since they have never fought the wars and learned the lessons USA has.
For me the mission is fubar when they can precision strike a runway with tomahawks, yet can't precision strike a nuclear research facility, doesn't make sense, but I give them a pass :D
Somehow, whenever you start crying... as SOON as you start crying, it hits me hard in my own gut and I start crying. I have the original here in my laptop. I watch it often enough. But when I saw this new Maverick movie, it truly blew me away. It was better, bigger, more EPIC and more emotional because - to me - it held more meaning because it builded upon the history of the bond between the friends in the originsl film. I mean, I was laughing, cheering, crying... my emotions were ALL OVER THE PLACE!!! TopGun: Maverick was IT for me. Absolutely LOVED IT!!!!
Rooster was familiar with "Great Balls of Fire" and it had a special place in his heart because HE WAS THERE that day his dad played it and sang it with Maverick together! In the flashback, you see him sitting on the piano facing his dad while he plays it. And, in a way, he probably plays it as a tribute to his father and finds comfort in playing it, as if he was right there with his father in his childhood again.
This movie exceeded my expectations, not only it's just a good movie, but there's so much detail from the technical point of view that only aviation enthusiasts pick up, it's surprising. I usually don't enjoy reaction videos but this was actually fun to watch, it felt genuine and your laugh and emotions definitely added to it!
Such a great blend of nostalgia drops and new material. A perfect sequel and conclusion to Maverick's story. Great editing too in the movie. When Rooster says, "Talk to me, Dad" it cuts to Maverick giving him advice then back to Rooster following that advice subtly expressing their true relationship. Mav might not be Bradley's father but he's his dad through and through.
Something to make you love Glen Powell (Hangman) even more: He was so inspired by all the flight training and filming in the jets that he immediately went out after filming to get his pilot's license. He said Tom Cruise was constantly checking on his progress and giving him tips and motivation since he's been a real life pilot for over 40 years.
Jennifer Connelly's character, Penny Benjamin, is mentioned in the first film when Mav and Goose are getting chewed out for not landing the plane . She was the admiral's daughter that Maverick got in trouble with trying to impress her and buzzing the tower. Goose looks at him and asks, "Penny Benjamin?" Knowing that might help you buy their rekindled relationship on and off over the years.
This is the BEST MOVIE in decades! Every push on emotions pay every time on me. I cryed like a kid lost over the secrifice of both on those aircrafts ... giving their life for other you love, that gets me everytime. Fenomenal!
I couldn't quite believe how good this one is. Surprisingly emotional too. I keep wondering if this is the last time we'll see Val Kilmer acting, which would be understandable, but a real shame.
Val Kilmers cancer is in remission but due to having tracheotomy tube placed in his throat due to throat cancer damaged his vocal cords but is still getting projects lined up.
If Cruise is behind a production, it's gonna be loaded. With the right emotion at the right time. The right action at the perfect time. He has his whole thing but when it comes to making great film.... the man is a genius
Hangman played Slow ride to mock Rooster because he flies too slow. Roosters answer was unplugging the jukebox and taking over the show on the piano. Lots of small things in this movie that are masked by the big moments but you catch more of them after multiple watches.
With being an Aviator myself, watching this movie really inspired me to become a private pilot and have the rare privilege of flying older jets from the cold war era, and also world war 2 aircraft, i can tell you that P-51D Mustang at the end of the movie is beautiful by the way, also a fun fact 90 percent of this movie was real pilots, real flying and real F/A-18 BFM's, lovely reaction and i think you got yourself a new subscriber :D
This reaction was done in the PERFECT way... and in a way of not only a TG fan... but as someone that has had this in their blood since the 80's..... your reaction to the first "talk to me Goose" says everything it needs too..... the rest was just me enjoying how much (same as me) that you appreciated this movie... with that said, surprised that the connection with Penny didn't bring you to tears like me... (Its a THROW BACK from the original movie) that was THE PERFECT LOVE STORY.... ever...... just my 2 cents.... keep it up, that was a great reaction and had me crying right along with you.....
“Doesn’t age, he’s like a vampire”…as a matter of fact, yes…yes, he is (1994 Interview With A Vampire) 😅….I think Penny Benjamin was a good add on to this movie since Goose mentioned her in the first along with Meg Ryan. Your emotional reaction to the nostalgia, the story, and the realness shows just how freaking great this movie is. I praise them for how they incorporated Val Kilmer. Overall, this is one of the BEST sequels I’ve ever seen 😎…Oh, I appreciate the Star Wars references, lol
In my opinion this shows how good a sequel needs to be to gather as much or more popularity that its original. I don't know of any other sequel that manages it. This knocks spots of the original Top Gun.
My favorite fun fact about the movie: Tom Cruise is a pilot and owns the P-51 featured in the movie. He flew it with Jennifer Connelly for the closing scene!
Val Kilmer was battling throat cancer and managed to do a great cameo performance... the love interest is the legendary Admiral's Daughter "Penny Benjamen" referenced in the first movie.
glad to see I'm not the only one who found this movie as emotional as me. I grew up watching the original. probably 100 times. just wish I had my dad here to watch it with me.
I know a thousand people have probably said this, but Penny Benjamin is not "out of nowhere." She was mentioned twice in the first movie. I was thrilled to hear her name when I saw this in the theater. This is is a perfect movie. And I don't offer that title lightly. :)
Top Gun: Maverick is the film of the year. I never thought we needed a sequel to Top Gun but I am sure glad this legacy sequel exists. From the same director of Tron: Legacy. I still feel the need for speed. Great reaction to the danger zone.
Hello, I can swear that we experienced the same feelings while watching this movie. It's been a long time since the first movie. That period was my youth. Many things have happened in our lives. And this movie reminds me of everything I went through back then. And we are getting old. Time goes fast. It is very emotional to see the movie characters grow old with us. The new generation cannot understand this. I think people our age will shed a lot of tears. It was nice to watch this movie again with you. There is so much to write but there is no water left in my eyes :)
I absolutely love the original! That being said there is something about this one that actually means more! But it can't without the first one! This movie is the perfect continuous story! Such a beautiful movie that hit all the perfect emotional moments! And your perfect reaction to those moments were exactly the same for me! I've seen this movie about five times already and it still hits even harder! Loved your reaction Angela!
I love how when Rooster says "Talk to me dad", he's talking about Goose, but Maverick is the one who responds to him. Maverick was Rooster's dad when he was growing up.
Penny Benjamin is mentioned twice in the original movie. They had known each other over decades. I felt the romantic angle of the movie was handled very maturely. They behaved as if they were as familiar with each other as they can possibly be.
Couple of cool facts: 1) That is Tom’s actual P-51, and yes, he’s actually flying it. 2) Both movies used vintage Porsches owned by the love interests.
I was blown away by how (surprisingly) good this movie is. I went to see it twice in the theaters. The last 1/3 of the movie is some of the best action suspense I've ever seen on screen.
My sister was born in 1992 and she knows the song Great Balls of Fire. And we're Portuguese. Many old songs are iconic and timeless. I know the lyrics to Elvis songs and Sinatra songs. I saw Top Gun Maverick 5x in the movie theatre and it was an awesome experience. I even got a tattoo with Maverick's helmet design. Loved your reaction.
I always appreciate how emotional you get even if on the surface this may seems like a dumb action movie, but it really is a masterpiece that at times pulls on the heart strings and as a man you make it feel like it's okay to cry!
The last scene with Jennifer Connelly and Tom Cruise in the vintage P -51 Mustang. that plane belongs to Cruise and he actually pilots it. He took each one of the pilots up for a ride before the filming of the movie.
I grew up in the 80s and was practically raised with this film. I was soo nervous about this sequel! Equal parts good and bad nerves, but I decided to see this in IMAX and wow! Am I glad I did. I also shared every single emotion that you had while watching it it's always dangerous to make a sequel 3 decades later, but they got it right. Perfectly sympathetic sequel especially the ice and goose scenes, I choked at ice's funeral too.great reaction. 👍👌
No sabes cuanto disfrute tu reacción, es tan dificil encontrar una mujer que entienda lo que sentimos quienes hicimos de ésta pelicula lejos una de las más favoritas. Eres realemnte genial.
I listened to a podcast recently where a former Top Gun instructor was talking about this movie and he was like "Yeah the mission they train for are stuff we did fairly regular, it's not that impossible but it makes for a cool movie!"
A small thing that's HUGE to me, being old enough to be a teen when the original came out in theater; Rooster literally echoed exactly what Goose said as the RIO..."Come on Mav, do some of that pilot shit!" The little thing blew ME away. I think I'm gonna ask for THAT on a T-shirt for my birthday. I DO have the TALK TO ME GOOSE shirt, in green. 🥰🤔😂 It AMAZES me how incredible Goose 'hits' for and with EVERYONE. Like Iceman said, "...everybody liked him..."
You know who Penny is? Goose mentioned her during the first movie, after couger turned in his wings, at the ass chewing, he said. "One admirals daughter " Penny.
Tom’s plane is a Mustang but not a fighter variant (FP-51K). It’s actually a reconnaissance variant (F-6K Mustang) that was flown by the Civil Air Patrol in the US during WWII. Tom bought the plane and had it retrofitted to look like the fighter variant. This required removing the 2 camera pods and replacing fairings, adding the correct gun mounts and replacing the prop with one having the correct amount of blades for the fighter variant among other changes. The entire history of his plane is in public records. It’s a beautiful restoration, no doubt, and I’m sure it probably performs well.
Not only is this still in theaters it was re-released in IMAX in some locations because most movies suck atm. If you haven't already seen it this is worth it. I really enjoyed seeing Tom thank the fans for coming to see his movie during the intro. OH and their vagueness towards the enemy, as far as I know, was deliberate to keep the politics out of a good movie. I personally thank them for it and nothing was lost by not knowing, in my opinion.
I worked on F-14A's in the Navy. When he asked why are the wings commin out?... The F-14 Tomcat has a feature called variable-sweep wings. When the wings are swept back, the jet is fast, when they are swept out it is more manuverable, as well as able to take off with less distance. The aircraft he was working on in the beginning and flew at the end was a P-51 Mustang, and Tom's personal bird.
Its ok to cry.. I saw the first one with my friend before I met my wife. This I saw this one alone after I lost my wife. She would have loved it. The love story is nice as she was the Admiral's daughter that Maverick went ballistic with in the first movie and that Goose and meg ryan talked about. You're beautiful and have the right reactions to this :) Its nice that the characters lived and it was good. Theres way too much dark and depressing movies out there. Rooster going back for Mav and then Hangman being a good guy saving them. Love it.
@6:16 Mach 10 is roughly 6,600 knots or about 2.1 miles EVERY SECOND. Assuming Maverick departed from China Lake NAS in California and flew eastbound, his 3 or so minute flight would have ended somewhere over Page, AZ on the eastern edge of the Grand Canyon. Good thing he was in the carpool lane!
The love story was finally a 'full circle' for Maverick - something to reward his original character and all of the losses and compromises that he made to be who he was. An opportunity to re-find a soul-mate that he can now embrace and be part of. I'm pleased with the circular karmic perfection offered by that part of the story. Rooster's "hate" of Mav is a reaction of a child to his father being "killed" by the ego of an exceptional pilot/flight partner along with the paternalistic behaviour that results in the delay of a career. Fitting. In terms of the music, I know so many kids who have embraced 'old' music because modern music just doesn't touch one's soul....if the parents are able to expose their kids to the 'old' music classics, they often can't help but appreciate that music. Happy that you loved the movie. Unlike so many sequels, this really brought things home. Formulaic. Truly American. Still, so very satisfying.
The Plane you see in the hanger at the begining of the movie and again at the end is in fact Tom's own P-51-D Mustang the same model flown by my Grandfather in WWII with 16 1/2 kills
Enjoyed this reaction. Val’s voice was CGI mixed with old audio of his mixed with his son’s voice to make it almost identical to his actual at the time of filming. That P-51 Mustang WWII fighter is Tom Cruise’s personally owned and maintained aircraft valued around $2M. He had his mechanics license as well, among the dozen other pilot’s licenses and certifications he’s earned. First movie was too involved in the love story with Charlie, but it was the 80s lol. But this one with Penny was beautifully done and didn’t overwhelm the mission storyline. Had more comedy to offset some of the more serious, sad and intense moments. There is nobody, no other A-list actor/actress that could elevate these movies as Tom has, as an actual recruiting tool for the Navy. I never clap/cheer in theaters. However this one had the entire audience doing just that…a true love letter to aviation. It’s sad knowing that this will be the last one to be this involved inside actual jets and as near more unmanned aircraft and more stealth that requires secrecy. WELL DONE!
thirstylilgal has entered the chat.😂 AWESOME REACTION! Loved it! Regarding the youngins knowing the words to Great Balls of Fire: I assumed they learned it from Rooster as he was paying homage to his dad, and it eventually became their "go to" song. And if you get a chance to see this on an IMAX screen, RUN, don't walk! I saw it twice on IMAX, and it was phenomenal!
Unfortunatly, I have watched TOO many movie reviews ! I am old, (pushing 70) and an a disabled / handicaped Navy vet, (74-84). but YOUR review is refreshing ! No judgement, No squalling, Just honest emotion and dare I say....honesty. Yes it is a movie, yes it is Holywood, yes it is fantisy. HOWEVER you called the actors and events well. Thank you
23:00 people forget how great of an actor Tom Cruise really is. The scene was emotional, short and perfect knowing Val Kilmer's real life complications with throat cancer. Love that scene so much.
Thank you so much for such an authentic, emotional, entertaining reaction. I absolutely loved hearing you list your hopes and expectations for the film- "I want a good soundtrack, I want Hangman to eventually succeed at some point, etc" knowing the ride that you were in for. I genuinely hope that you can go see it in theaters, you 100% deserve to. We are all so fortunate that you potentially gave that up to have a reaction for the channel, no doubt. My first time seeing it in theaters, I was *overwhelmed*. The sounds, the intensity, the enormity of it all- I didn't even get emotional until my second time, when I drug my dad to go see it- I was over the initial shock and was able to take everything in and *feel* it, the way that you oh-so-clearly felt it, repeatedly, before our very eyes. Love love LOVE it. Magnificent movie, Magnificent reaction.
Amazing reaction as always! You are consistently genuine and an absolute pleasure to watch. Glad you watched this movie!! The nostalgia ran deep, and they 100% nailed it for those of us who remember the first movie with so much fondness and appreciation. Side note: you say Hangman is easy on the eyes. I say it’s you. YOU are so pretty. 🤷♂️
In the first movie, Maverick got into trouble for dating an Admiral's daughter. The Admiral's daughter was Penny Benjamin. When you extend the wings on an F-14 they create more lift at lower speeds allowing the plane to get airborne quicker. When retracted the plane can fly much faster.
If you remember in the original Top Gun, Penny Benjamin was the admirals daughter that was mentioned, when Maverick was told he was going to take Cougar's place, when Goose said "Penny Benjamin". So yeah, this love story has been decades in the making. As far as Rooster knowing "Great balls of fire", he was sitting on the piano when his dad was playing it, so I'm sure he remembers that very well. Val Kilmer has throat cancer.
Penny Benjamin was mentioned twice in the original '86 flick by Goose & MegRyan as one of Mav's love fling who happens to be a daughter of a admiral which Maverick found himself in hotwater for, so that character & love interest wasn't just a random put together & made sense since years after as they mentioned during this sequel kept appearing in eachothers life.
I loved Mav and Penny’s relationship. It represented him accepting the next chapter of his life (settling down) and was a great way for him to complete his hero’s arc. I think the chemistry between the actors was wonderfully done as well. Could the movie have survived without their love story? Of course. But I think it added a ton to the emotion of the film.
Spoilers: Love this comment, I totally agree! She was also a good person to have Pete reveal his background and feelings with Rooster. And I never thought about what Rooster said how Pete doesnt have a family(assuming that would be important to him). Penny and her daughter open up that whole new phase of life for Maverick and give him an exciting new adventure to navigate.
This might be your best reaction video to date!!! You go through such a rollercoaster of emotions during this movie, and with all the callbacks to the original movie, you can't help but get emotional. I have seen a number of reactions to the movie over the last month or so.... but this one is the best. Every part I loved and got emotional about when watching it was the same parts you did.
I picked up on it immediately in the theater.
yeah when i was watching this one i kinda went back and watched the original because i only ever seen it on tv and never really saw the whole thing and i caught that line lol. it was that and i think she came up in conversation with goose's wife
Glenn already played a character who went into space. But I'm sure that Cruise inspires others to get their license.
Glen Powell is in another movie about pilots, the upcoming Devotion, about the first black aviator in US Navy history, Jesse Brown. Glen plays his wingman Tom Hudner.
I've seen this movie at least 20 times in the theater - 15 times in IMAX
I've seen your reaction to this movie a good half-dozen times or so.
(fun theater experience 😂)
“I make movies for the big screen.”
- Tom Cruise
lol love that pun, i too am an Ace. I watch it 5 times in the theatre.
Literally my words leaving the theater. That movie had no business being as good as it was
“Makes him an Ace”
Fellow Ace here
The movie: I'm good, I'm very good :-)
I always thought that if you see the movie 5 times you should get a Top Gun Ace shirt from the theater. Marketing idea?!!
"Why am I crying so much during this movie?!"
You are not alone lol. So many hits in the feels and so many goosebump moments
The romance with Penny was part of Maverick's character "letting go" of the past and moving on. That's why I hope there is no sequel because the story of Maverick has been wrapped up perfectly.
If there is Cruise will 95 looking 55 🤣🤣🤣
I think there should be one, but with Tom Cruise and Jennifer Connelly only playing bit parts as Rear Admiral (retired), Pete Mitchell and his wife Penny Mitchell. Maybe Rooster Consults with his God Father or something like that. Kinda the way Mav and Ice did in this movie.
@@davidisles4009 I'd like to see another Top Gun, but have it center on Rooster, or perhaps Hangman. Mav could act as a mentor or something in a bit role.
@@davidisles4009 That would make a lot of sense. Thereby hangs the makings of another epic movie, bring it on because I can't wait another 36 years.
We need a prequel about Maverick's dad in an F4
100% I totally agree
Millenials singing that song is probably the most unrealistic part of the movie...
Rooster's time back "at the Academy". But didn't Maverick pull his application? 😊
Miles Teller actually played the piano during that scene.
@@psych46 Yes. Set him back four years. But a four year delay.... Academy time and Great Balls of Fire time, no?
Loved your reaction, take care.
he was 4 when Goose died. More likely his mom would have it on a lot just Maverick's mom had Sitting on the Dock of the Bay on a lot.
Apparently the piano scene was improvised, so the actor knew the song, so why not the character?
I will vote Spitfire as the most beautiful planes from WWII
The P-51 is one of the most beautiful planes ever made, WWII or otherwise. It's classy, clean, and extremely sleek. It helps that it was also one of the most capable planes of the war (if not outright the best), lol.
Do you think the "LG" on the Mustang was a tribute to Lady Gaga?
As a pilot, Rooster knows damn well what setting the wings to almost straight means! As you said, he was in denial.
@@markymarknj Yep, he was hoping Maverick had some other weird reason for it, but knew he wouldn't get what he was hoping for, lol.
I also love that he Saud "both runways are cratered!" Because one airstrip is 2 runways, one either direction. Nice attention to detail
What a movie. The story is sooo ridiculous but it just hits all the right emotional notes and the action is crazy good.
This is a real mission that is closest to the one in the movie:
ruclips.net/video/_9bt6U8K2Ao/видео.html
@@pancakelens75 Military enemies of America definitely didn't like the pro-military overtones. But it's because they are scared. No other military in the world has serviceable 5-Gen airplanes. Russia and China claim to have them but they aren't true 5-Gen as they don't know how to do it all since they have never fought the wars and learned the lessons USA has.
Just the right mix of tropes and absurdity and emotional stakes and excellent action.
It was at that moment when Maverick saved Rooster, that Rooster realized how much of a friend Maverick was to his father
Love the homage to Tony Scott's opening scene by reshooting it almost the same but with the new planes.
I think he’s set to appear in the new Willow movie. 🤞🏾
Approaching high hypersonic.
That line always gives me goosebumps combined with the score
Theres only one kind of human that would not cry in this Movie! People without a Heart!
The comment “earth” by the kid caught me off guard when I saw this but it was so perfect. Gave me a good laugh 😂
It was loosely based off an incident which happened to Yuri Gargarin.
This is by far the best reaction video for Maverick I've seen. She's a hoot! I'd love to watch a movie with her any day
it's sweet how emotional and invested she was in the movie
I love how when Rooster says "Talk to me dad", he's talking about Goose, but Maverick is the one who responds to him. Maverick was Rooster's dad when he was growing up.
So good, most people miss this
Penny Benjamin is mentioned twice in the original movie. They had known each other over decades. I felt the romantic angle of the movie was handled very maturely. They behaved as if they were as familiar with each other as they can possibly be.
Couple of cool facts:
1) That is Tom’s actual P-51, and yes, he’s actually flying it.
2) Both movies used vintage Porsches owned by the love interests.
Saw it in the theater twice. It was an amazing experience. One of the best, if not the best Sequel to a film ever made.
Better than T2?
@@randallhurst8211 imo, yes.
I’ve been watching a lot of Top Gun: Maverick reactions, honestly this is the best one so far. Your emotional attachment to the movie is astounding.
I was blown away by how (surprisingly) good this movie is. I went to see it twice in the theaters. The last 1/3 of the movie is some of the best action suspense I've ever seen on screen.
It didn't surprise me, I expected awesome and it didn't disappoint
You are quickly becoming my favorite reactor. I love how invested you get into what you're watching. This one was epic
Such an amazing sequel, one of my top favorites. Saw this a few times in the theaters. Penny was also mentioned in the first Top Gun
Great reaction. FYI, the plan at the end is a P-51 Mustang owned by Tom Cruise, and he was actually flying it in the last scene!
63 years old. Navy Veteran. STILL cry every time I see this movie!! Great reaction!!👍👍👍❤❤❤
Thank you for your service!
100% agreed.
You're beautiful and have the right reactions to this :)
Its nice that the characters lived and it was good.
Watching this in an actual theatre made my chest hurt during the intense scenes. The sounds just made it like i was in the plane
Jennifer sails in real life so yep, that was her actually sailing the boat.
WELL DONE!
I think he sung great balls of fire because his dad sung it around him. The song may hold a special place in his heart. Great video!!
thirstylilgal has entered the chat.😂 AWESOME REACTION!
Drove an extra 40 minutes to make this my first "fancy movie theater" (daughter's term) experience. Was WELL WORTH IT.
“My butt was clenched, so hard” 😂🤣😭😭🤣
Her external emotions are my internal emotions. Love these reactions
Interesting what you said about the love story, I actually believed Maverick and Penny a lot more than I did him and Charlie.
You've been putting yourself through shows and movies like _She Hulk_ and _Thor: Love & Thunder._ You deserved to watch this movie.
This is cinema
@@yohanespaskal9352 No shit
When Maverick hugs Rooster at the end...man tears for me.
At the end of the day, it's basically uncle Maverick!
"Why am I crying so much during this movie?"
Because it's an awesome, awesome movie. Great reactions!
The relationship was based off the first film - she was the Admirals daughter from the 1st Top Gun
This movie gave me hope, that truly amazing cinema can still be crafted. I love this movie like I haven't loved a movie in a very long time.
This is the most genuine and pure and emotional reaction to Top Gun Maverick that I've seen on youtube. Best movie of 2022. Subscribed!
This might be your best reaction video to date!!! You go through such a rollercoaster of emotions during this movie, and with all the callbacks to the original movie, you can't help but get emotional.
And in my opinion, this is the best movie to come out in 2022 (maybe even this decade)...
Absolutely LOVED your reaction ❤️❤️❤️
Loved your reaction to this movie. One of the best movies ever. It’s very emotional I seen this movie 9 times in the theater and cried every time. I loved Jennifer Connelly as Mavericks love interest. I thought they had great chemistry together. Thanks for reacting to this movie!
One of the greatest sequels ever made and one of the only films to surpass the original film. Absolute brilliant acting, writing, screenplay, action scenes. Just a perfect sequel.
I’d even argue that, apart from maybe The Empire Strikes Back, this is the best sequel ever made
I have seen a number of reactions to the movie over the last month or so.... but this one is the best. Every part I loved and got emotional about when watching it was the same parts you did. Shows me that you were an 80s girl who grew up with this movie and loved it. It was a phenomenal sequel and your video did it the ultimate justice. Great job 👏
I adore, I LOVE, your enthusiasm about the movie, and that you show how much the first one meant to you!
