Actually, it was people of royal blood that didn't get to have individual aspirations. They had to fight their brotehrs over the throne & then either die or become Sultan. Even if u become Sultan, your job is to constantly conquer new territory for the empire. It's not very fun.

Isn't the overgroving pride also the fault of Suleyman? He first encouraged Ibrahim to cross the boudaries between slave and master and has called him a brother and encouraged being treated like an equal. Then allowed him to marry his sister. He even invented the law that protects Ibrahim from being killed even by sultan. However, every time Ibrahim does something wrong- he is being called a slave again as if the previous words of sultan of being a sworn brother did not even exist. Ibrahim also hates Suleyman for being treated like a brother only in crisis situation and not acknowledging his achievements like he would want to be remembered by people. Ibrahim craves for power , has ambitions and sometimes does not even realise he moves inevitably either to removing Suleyman or killing himself.

Keep in mind that this show is in no way historically accurate. The Ottoman Empire was a Caliphate, an Islamic Empire ruled but Sharia Law. Most of the things in this show wouldn't have been allowed in Real life such as : Sculptures, Gambling, Brothels, The Harem Women's Clothes (showing cleavage), Bowing to people etc. And yes I would want a new Ottoman Empire and would be the first to serve it.

I'm not *quite* sure what you're asking here, so apologies if this is a little off base, but the reason for such servitude has a very different reasoning under the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans practiced slavery to bloster everything from the ranks of their soldiers to their servants and harem members. It was, of course, an abuse of power, but one so entrenched in the traditions of the state that it took considerable time to bring a stop to.

Let's put it this way...They commoners serve Monarchs out of two reasons Money and Honor.
If you Do your Job well you have nothing to fear but if you insult the Monarch you have to fear the consequences, they cannot be seen weak ,for example
In game of Thrones Tywins Father Titus Lannister was a weak Lord and thats why House Rain started their rebellion. If people start a rebellion many people die so you need a strong ,Loved but also Feard Monarch .
