    It was all the more confusing when I started tinkering nonstop with the settings. Now I'm back to the default one and learned to adjust my joystick movements from there!

    Great points. I always wondered why people keep saying it's better to customize the settings. The sticks work proportionally, so if you have the right touch you can make it go as smoothly or as fast as you want it to. Besides, I've been using the stock settings long enough to build muscle memory, and changing those settings really messes me up. ( I've tried it.)

    Great video enjoyed it ..... I am presently using longer sticks ...a trick I learnt years ago flying Radio controlled aircraft.

    • @GAVINHR
      @GAVINHR  3 года назад

      Yes many people use longer sticks to give more control also, let me know how you get on trying it as you said when the wind dies down!

      @@GAVINHR Certainly will keep in touch. I posted a video of smoke from the Forest fires near our city, We are still blanketed by heavy smoke and are hoping to see some wind direction change and clear us up a bit. Breathing for some people have been difficult for some of our locals. Take a moment and have a look its actually a short video.

    Stock settings are pretty good and change flight mode - I do feel especially your yaw motion can't be slow enough. The EXP and Proportional settings are not available in the fly app, but I agree they have applied some default settings here as well that are workable.

    Great advice Gavin, over the last few months i have reverted to and adopted the standard Gimbal settings more out of frustration and the belief that less is more when flying the mini 2. I just found it easier to work with one gimbal setting all the time in C/N/S modes, and learnt that a finer touch on the controls is the way to go, still working on that, but agree 100% with you, also gave me more confidence flying under bridges or short tunnels, relatively confined spaces etc.
    My biggest difficulty at the moment is pinching the stick with thumb and forefinger and trying to use the Gimbal scroll wheel at the same time as controlling the drone, being right handed i find this difficult to coordinate with my left hand, but i guess its just practice and more practice....A lot more practice in my case!

    • @GAVINHR
      @GAVINHR  3 года назад +1

      Haha I'm sure you will get there! I am right handed also so it was difficult at first but practice will get you there ! I think part of my issue is that I film ships which of course move! So I have to nail it almost first time ! But yes, practice using the stock setting then get better over time and then adjust for the finer ones

    Like it Gavin, years ago and I mean near on 35 years ago I was taught to fly fixed wing aircraft by holding the sticks with thumb and first finger and make very little stick movement to control the aircraft, and in those days we never had cameras on board But it did make that a Mustang look pretty realistic in the air! Great video bud! 👍👍

      @GAVINHR  3 года назад

      Thank you very kindly David, exactly! Just careful flying and minimal inputs, learn to do that and then play with settings to finish it off. I know I'm going against the grain from other RUclipsrs but hey, I'd rather stand out than send viewers on a wild goose chase in the never ending hunt for the right setting when the secret is your fingertips

    Big trickster you are man!! LOL
    Hey change C Mode settings to the slowest speed and the maximum buffer! Try that. I love it! Still not as smooth as my Mavic Mini but darn close!
    This has always been my biggest or only gripe about the Mini 2! One would think with the above settings it would be tremendously slow but it's not!
    Another thing I do is use longer sticks.
    One thing that would be nice is a option for the Fn button would be to change modes. That way if you had the above settings and got into trouble with one button by your thumb you could speed it up. Heck that might be an option. I forget. Let me look.
    Although normally if it's a gust of wind lowering the drone usually helps.

    • @GAVINHR
      @GAVINHR  3 года назад +1

      Haha yes ! I thought that would be a fun trick for people! Longer sticks are very popular I must admit. Totally agree the yaw speed on the Mavic mini is about perfect to be honest

    Sound: Manufacturers probably spend a lot of time testing settings in focus groups so that their factory settings give the most users the best results. I rarely need to vary gimbal settings, it takes too long to get used to the new ones. You are better off adjusting the frame rate so you can adjust movement in post.

    • @sfbluestar
      @sfbluestar 2 года назад

      Really depends on what you need. I often want to precisely adjust orientation of a shot so certain things are level, so it is crucial for me not to have any smoothness.

    What would be nice is if you could introduce some "exponential" control function. Good aeromodelling RCs have this, and it does make it easy to make small smooth movements as well as large fast ones.

    • @WW5RM
      @WW5RM 3 года назад

      Yeah one thing, which might be what you are saying is a curve. Say at 50% switch to a curve increase or ramp higher from there up. 0 - 50% be a straight slow increasing line but at 50% curve it up to max or at least 3/4.
      Seems like betaflight or iflight gives similar options.
      But yeah give some type of curve that we could set to kick in anywhere from 10 - 80% and maybe a max setting of where that curve stops or max for full stick depending on mode. This way you could even limit max speed for S mode too. Full curve / stick settings for each mode.
      Honestly this is why I wanted to build my own. I got a Betaflight F3 been sitting in the box for......oh 3 years or more now! LOL

    Hi Gavin, i have just returned from a rather long lay off from flying my Mini 2 and discovered that there are no "Advanced Gimbal Settings" on the dji fly app!!
    having spoken to dji in a chat i find that they are now in another area called "gain and expo tuning" ! this is very confusing as the settings are changed and seem to allow a lot more leeway.
    I would value your comments please, and any tips on what settings to use on the mini 2 now?
    Gerald

    Thanks Gav, great video.. I was always a bit overwhelmed by each mode, which settings to apply to normal, cinema and sports. Normal would be easy to set but do you set the the other two the same, do you make them even slower, should sports mode have its own slow cinama settings!! Who knows.. I think a reset should solve this. Haha..

    The yaw is the only setting I mess with. I change yaw speed in Normal mode to 30 and in Cine to 6. Stock yaw settings are just too fast to make good video. 30 in normal mode is fast enough to maneuver if needed. 6 is slow, but makes great video. If you need to maneuver, you shouldn't be in Cine mode.

    Hi all. Can anyone here tell me what happened to my Mini 2. It was my first ever trial and was indoors. It took off fine at the altitude of 1.2m and hovered, then it started moving forward on its own. I had no control at all as much it crashed into the wall. Fortunately nothing broke. Then second time I tried is, as it hovered at 1.2m the motor suddenly roared and went into full speed, fortunately I could grab the drone and hold onto it and press the power button to then it off. The drone was really warm too. Is this a drone problem or operator? One more question, do you need to calibrate the GPS every time before flying? Many thanks in advance.
