    I did this on my Crosman Nitro Venom. Screwing the M3x10mm in all the way does prevent the barrel from cocking. With a little trial and error, I found that my happy place was to back out the 10mm three complete turns. This lengthened the first stage trigger pull slightly, but the break was just a hair past the stop. I removed the 10mm, put on a drop of blue threadlock, then reinstalled it. Much better and crisper.
    I could not find an M3x10mm screw anywhere within a sixty mile radius of my home, so I ordered Team Associated screws from Tower Hobbies. A pack of twenty was $1.79 plus $1.99 shipping. All to get one screw.
    Great. Now I have to buy nineteen more Nitro Venoms.
    Thanks for the video!
    Si vis pacem, para bellum.

      Try a M3×8mm screw. First, you will find that it also works and won't dead-head. Combine this with the 5x8x2.5mm bearing and you MAY find the "perfect pull" like I did. Experiment but be safe my friends.

    This excellent mod. works just great on the Crosman Diamondback too! Finally my gun is shooting like I hoped it would. The factory trigger was terrible, a really long first stage which was actually not that bad, but then the second stage was absolutely terrible, clunky and stiff as hell. I ground down an M3 x 12 to about the same dimension and tried it out today and it has transformed the way the gun shoots. So much smoother. Thanks a lot for a great video of this mod. A couple of things I checked - If you screw the screw in too far it is possible to fire the Diamondback even with the safety on, and yes the gun cocks as normal but it will fire with the safety on so be careful. I backed mine off 1/4 turn at a time until it would not fire with the safety engaged, then backed it off another 1/4 turn. Then we loaded it up and give the butt rest a good few whacks with a hammer to make sure it wouldn't fire if it got a knock, this was fine with safety on and safety off. Thanks again for this mod, it has totally changed the gun's performance. It is getting nice groups out at 45-55 Yards where before it was a bit erratic due to the clunky trigger pull. One last thing that might be worth mentioning - When you fit the new screw it will be a little loose and if you are like me and worry it might vibrate and move (and have no Nylok screws) wrap a little piece of plumbers PTFE tape around the threads and it will grip and hold the screw securely.

    I'm a nupie to the whole air gun scene. However, I installed a 3x8mm with a "socket" head. This allows you to make the adjustments with an allen wrench without having remove the trigger guard a second time.

    very nice fix and adjustment
    bought and installed a 3mm 10mm machine screw -
    followed instructions here -
    put screw in deep until it didnt latch/catch or engage sear when breaking over the barrel -
    then backed off 1/4 turn [it worked well as I felt the wall, but too hair trigger for me] :o
    after a few trials i backed it off almost 2 turns and it felt just as I like it. :)
    your results will vary as to what you like.
    i feel a very smooth stage until the trigger is up against the wall of the firing stage.
    a little steady pressure. . . I feel it let go and I am happy. :)
    *yes I did the slap test, the bump test and the safety works fine.
    I like the feel of this and will be ok right here with my consistent groups of pellet holes over lapping each other.
    my rifle is the crossman shockwave in .22 [a walmart special] my first was the blue streak pump and abused it till the seals failed [over 30 years]
    thank you to the family for keeping his videos on for us to see and use.

    I know every gun is a little different, but I have fixed the trigger on two different air rifles and have found the longer screw alone to be insufficient. I have achieved a much more refined result by…
    1. Adding the RC bearing as discussed in other vids.
    2. LEAVING the trigger return spring in place but WEAKENING it.
    3. Replacing the worthless factory-installed “adjustment” screw with a longer one.
    With the bearing mod alone, you lose the 2-stage trigger but the overall length of trigger pull is greatly reduced. By also adding a longer adjustment screw, I further reduce the trigger pull as much as I possibly can without making the gun unsafe. The result is a very refined, short, crisp pull with 2-stage functionality restored.
    If you’re a kid, stick with the bushing/bearing alone and remove the return spring and adjustment screw. Using a longer screw can render the gun extremely unsafe. If you have confidence that you know what you’re doing, go all the way with it.

    • @jjrock5
      @jjrock5 5 лет назад

      Dennis Chupp how do you weaken the return spring?

    • @dchup89
      @dchup89 5 лет назад

      jjrock5 I crushed the spring into a more collapsed position with a pliers experimenting as I went. Basically, over-collapse it. You can go too far to the point that it ceases to push the trigger blade all the way back forward. On mine I weakened it as much as I could without eliminating its functionality.
      To be clear, if all you are doing is the bearing mod, the return spring is completely unnecessary. However, if you use a longer screw in conjunction with the bearing, the trigger blade will require the return spring to remain in place.

    I have a Optimus and I never use the open sights. I always remove the sights whenever I get a new gun. I was tinkering with it one night and I found out that the screw from the rear sight with the plastic dial on it works for this modification. Just cut off the plastic dial from the screw and it already has a slotted screwdriver notch. It gives you a really long first stage which I like and a very good second stage wall. I've owned probably around 15 break barrels through the years and this is probably my favorite trigger out of all of them. Before the modification it was probably one of the worst ones I've ever dealt with

  • @chevota400
    @chevota400 9 лет назад +5

    You should back it off much more than 1/4 turn. The edges of the sears are rounded and 1/4 turn back means the sears are on the rounded edges which means they can slip off unexpectedly which fires the gun. They may slip off randomly just sitting there, or need to be bumped, even the shock of closing the barrel could do it. Fyi...
    It also doesn't reduce the overall travel at all, it just reduces the "second" stage which makes it more predictable just like any two stage. The problem with these triggers is the first stage is a false stage which does nada, it's the second stage which is the only real stage that actually moves the sears. So really it's a single stage with dead space in front. The longer screw shortens the sear engagement which is effectively pre-pulling the sears for you. So if you originally had 20mm travel overall, 10 first and 10 second stage, after adjusting like you did you'd have 19 first (false) and 1 or less of the second. This means the trigger is internally 90+% pulled at all times, and as mentioned that's not safe with those rounded sears. So I would do at least a few turns back. The bearing/washer mod also shortens the sear engagement but in a different way, and it too can be unsafe depending on the height of the bearing installed and the trigger itself which varies from gun to gun. At least with the screw you can adjust it. So the point of the longer screw mod isn't reduce pull weight or distance, but shorten that second stage so it's more predictable. Predictable, not super short. And only for people unwilling or unable to do any of the better mods which involve removing the trigger. If you want I can explain how to do a vastly superior mod, which if you made a vid of it would save me a lot of trouble...

    • @Grejam53
      @Grejam53 9 лет назад

      +chev rolet . Would like to see your superior mod. Please post it.

    • @chevota400
      @chevota400 9 лет назад +2

      +Grejam53 I don't make vids but basically it involves sharpening and truing the sears, smoothing all moving parts, then most importantly adding an M3 screw to the trigger which does the same thing as the GRT and GTX triggers do. Drill/tap the oem trigger to put the screw in the same spot between the two pins. The end result is cheaper and better than buying a trigger, but more work which is why most people buy or only do the easy mods like the bearing/washer or longer screw like in this vid. You can also do mods to shorten the sear overlap or increase it, and lighten the trigger spring or just remove it, most people remove it. So lots of ways to mod it but as a general rule the better ways take more work.

    Hi!
    I am looking to pick one of these up, and the trigger seems to be about the only complaint. Thanks for doing this tutorial on the easier fix, as I am not comfortable with disassembling a rifle.
    I've got a question though...
    When you replaced the original 5mm screw, why not just use a shorter screw of 7 or 8mm instead of the longer 10mm screw that isn't being screwed in all the way?
    I would think you would need to reset the screw after firing for a while because of vibration wiggling the screw loose (which wouldn't be a problem if the screw were fully seated).
    Do you see what I mean?
    Or am I overthinking this?

    That was the wrong size screw for my Benjamin Trail NP2. I picked up a 3mx10mm screw, but it bound up as I was starting to screw it in. After trying it a couple of times, I realized the threads were wrong on it.
    I brought the original screw with me to the hardware store and tried a number of nuts till I found one that threaded properly. The proper screw was a #4 x 3/8 (10mm is the same as 3/8").
    When I got home, it fit perfectly. I backed it out, put some locktite on the threads, then turned it back down again, then went outside to make my adjustments.
    Not quite a hair trigger, but only a little pull on the trigger ended up giving me the best results, hitting 10 out of 10 shots at a 1" spinning target at 20 yds. I thought a little more pull would feel better, but the accuracy went down substantially, so I put it back.
    The #4 x 3/8" screw is what did the trick in my Trail NP2.

      He showed you the box the screws came in and their size. He repeated the size of the screw at least 3-4 times.

    Is the spring left out when you do this trigger mod?

    • @myairgunreviews
      @myairgunreviews  10 лет назад

      You do this mod without removing the trigger blade so you do not touch any springs. You can go in and remove the spring if you like for a lighter trigger.

    Dear sir, did you mean any kind 3x10mm screw? I found many available from Walmart.com or simply Google it. I am first time AR owner and bought this gun from Amazon recently. I studies many pro video on line and also felt the trigger is too long to pull...

      I used 3x10mm with a small Phillips head from my local hubby store.

      i think he may mean what is the pitch of the thread. There are various pitches avail for this (any) screw. I am not sure, but i believe the right answer is "0.50 course" as per ISO 261 standards table which can be found on wikedpedia. At least, that would be the default.

      kilrassclown The OEM screw is 5mm long. Just take it with you to the Hobby Store and get one 8 to 10mm long.

      nicholas breton You can access the screw from the side or the hole, a bit awkward but very doable. Use a little size 00 phillips screwdriver, a size 2 (most common) or a 1 is too fat. Using a 00 I have never needed to remove the guard or stock to install or adjust the screw.

      lt does not have a spring.

    • @myairgunreviews
      @myairgunreviews  9 лет назад +2

      +Charlie Wilson It's a gas spring (Nitro Piston). Find one for a full power gun.

    • @kackth6476
      @kackth6476 8 лет назад

      +Charlie Wilson I didn't know 12ftlb existed, is it a UK version or something? On the Crosman website look up the part # for the spring used in the full power gun, which starts with BT9M22-00-??. I'm not sure if the last two digits are important for anything other than ordering. So get the # and order it from them. Be sure it's the spring because they also reduce power with pistons. Canada for example may have a longer piston or maybe a hole in it.
