you wanna know the cons of having one?...
1.) they're nocturnal, which doesn't mean much until you consider that the noise they make is very loud, and depending on how thick your walls are and what kind of sleeper you are, you shouldn't count on excessive sleep.
2.) if you struggle to keep animals within your household for long periods of time (around 20-40 years worth) then don't buy one.
3.) these animals tend to be territorial (at least the males are) and have super long (and sharp) teeth for an animal their size.
4.) genius isn't typically a problem but make sure you invest in a padlock for their cage (mine constantly escaped from his).
5.) Because they are exotic, there are numerous diseases they could be harboring, and these animals aren't vaccinated as thoroughly as other DOMESTIC animals.
What about the pros? is it worth it?
1.) they can be sweet, and are adorably curious creatures who tend to favor one person (most likely the person who feeds it)
2.) very gentle and soft when handled correctly, and hardly ever bites.
3.)Feeding isn't difficult, especially if you eat a lot of fruit (which makes up most of their diet)
Honestly i didn't want to put too many pros because if you're considering getting one, you most likely know what these consist of, and the important thing is to consider the cons....

Cats need their claws too, sir.

    • @OkamiWSDwarrior
      @OkamiWSDwarrior 10 лет назад +2

I don't agree with that at all, cats use their claws to mark their territory, to relax themselves, to climb, jump, it's self soothing PLUS when you declaw a cat it's like cutting someone's fingers off at the tip.

      *****
Your name says it all about your opinion and I certainly hope you never own a cat. Declawing is torture. Let's see - you don't need most of your toes - shall we chop them off for you? Please educate yourself! healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2011/11/15/declawing-torture-cats.aspx

Do you know exactly the procedure for declawing? They cut off the tendon AND bone at the second knuckle. The cats are often depressed, in pain and never able to walk, play or climb the same again. I suggest doing some research on the matter, please. >www.humanesociety.org/animals/cats/tips/declawing.html

Okay, you didn't make that clear to begin with. Cutting and filing a cat's nails are a necessary and humane thing to do, like many other animals. I agree that a kinkajou needs their fingers and claws to eat, I wasn't comparing a cat too a kinkajou, just stating that cats also need their claws for normal behavior. I think it is never right to declaw a cat and therefore if a person is going to resort to putting them down because of behavioral issues then they shouldn't be owning a cat to begin with.

Uhh... How often do you eat grapes? They have seedless grapes (Very, very easy to buy... how don't you know that?), and when they do have seeds they're tiny as hell anyway.

Kinkajous sure are cute but do they really make good pets? I didn't want a cat either and I'm not sure if a dog would be a good pet for me being away from home often, so I have ferrets now. I'm not sure if I should go more exotic than that.

Yes but even “not like a cat” you shouldn’t cripple any animal to “own” them. So at least they were decent.
