      Maeve having pets isn't moral, they'd rather be with their families.

    • @maeve4527
      @maeve4527 6 лет назад +7

      (referring to dogs and cats) if you adopt from a shelter, they were already separated from their families. the most moral thing to do is give them a loving home instead of leaving them trapped in a pound, and later on, euthanized.

      hardship
      [hahrd-ship]
      noun
      a condition that is difficult to endure; suffering; deprivation; oppression:
      a life of hardship.
      an instance or cause of this; something hard to bear, as a deprivation, lack of comfort, or constant toil or danger:
      They faced bravely the many hardships of frontier life.

    Anyone who thinks animals don't feel pain is either delusional, extremely ignorant, or more likely, just being dishonest and making excuses for their carnistic ways....carnism is a violent ideology that has built-in defense mechanisms such as this excuse....Excellent job, Ed...

    • @rayhan3654
      @rayhan3654 3 года назад

      I fully understand the vegan argument, but is it not an epistemological question whether animals suffer in the same way that we humans suffer?
      Are we not just committing the naturalistic fallacy by associating pain to a physical system (i.e. muscle tissue) of an animal. What if animals are ghostless machines?
      This is David Chalmers hard problem of consciousness. We know that in the human experience, beyond mechanistic explanations about behaviour, there is an internal qualitative dimension to us that is irreducibly subjective. How do we *know* this is the case with animals?
      This is my only argument I have to logically resist a vegan lifestyle. Although, I totally concede that living as a vegan is no doubt the most sympathetic and wholesome way of living ethically, although this is an emotional decision not a rational one.
      I just draw the line at the fact that it's never really proven that animals do suffer and have a sense of experience like we do.

      @@rayhan3654 think about this way: if you were an alien from another planet and couldn't communicate with humans in any language, how would you prove to other aliens humans can feel pain? We only know we feel pain, because that's what our senses tell us. The same is with animals, so the only thing left for us is to try and understand how their senses and brains work. So far we have only proven they are capable of feeling pain.

    • @rayhan3654
      @rayhan3654 3 года назад

      @@aurelijagarbanovaite3462
      Your argument demonstrates a false analogy.
      an alien civilisation that is intelligent enough to meet us *must* have a language system ... Language and a capacity to explain phenomena are linked. We would be able to learn each others languages and communicate what we mean by suffering. Animals do not have a linguistic analogue and do not have a capacity to explain. They lack creativity; they are controlled entirely by their genes.
      We feel pain not because our senses tell us but because we have a mind that conjectures explanations. In order for us to *know* what pain is, a stimulus is interpreted through an explanation.

    A boy once told me how much fun he had at his grandparents' place whipping cattle through the chute into the truck. I asked him why he enjoyed hurting them. He told me they don't really feel pain. When I pointed out to him that if they felt no pain, they wouldn't try to get away from the whip, the dawning connection in his eyes nearly brought him to tears. It wasn't my intention to hurt his feelings, but to make him aware, and in that, I guess it succeeded.

    Times are changing fast, the world is waking up to the atrocities we inflict on animals .
    Animals are not property to be used as resources for human beings, we recognise that humans have the moral right not to be treated as property, to treat humans as property would be to condone slavery.
    We give animals the status of property, “things”.
    Animals (non human beings) are sentient as are human beings
    adjective
    adjective: sentient
    “able to perceive or feel things”
    Animals are the same as humans in the ability to feel pain, terror, sadness, loss just as we do and they feel happiness, love, joy. They form friendships and bonds just as we do, they love their families and nurture their babies just as we do. And they will fight for their lives, just as we would.
    There is no justification for animal use. We do not need to consume their flesh and secretions, we do not need to wear their hides as jackets or shoes, or use them for handbags or sofas, we do not need to torture them for our make up or products and medicine. We do not need to condemn them to a life of misery for our entertainment.
    We think of ourselves as highly intelligent and evolved yet we continue to torture, persecute, enslave and murder the most innocent beings on this planet.
    You don’t have to be a huge animal lover to understand that to put another sentient being through the horrors that we inflict on animals is morally wrong. Put yourself in their position. How would you feel in their place? Or if someone did that to your mum, your dad, your siblings or your children? Just watch a video of a cow having it’s calf taken away from it. Watch a video of day old male chicks from the egg industry and what happens to them. Watch a cow or sheep or pig fight for its life before having its throat slit to make a burger, chop or bacon.
    For non vegans, just watch land of hope and glory and earthlings here on RUclips.
    For trolls, crack on, seriously, we have heard it ALL before and then some.
    For vegans, you beautiful people, you warriors for the animals, keep fighting for them, we will and are changing the world for them 💚🌱

    This is what constantly haunts so many of us: the fact that animals feel fear and pain just as we do. This should be enough on its own to make everybody stop eating meat, fish, eggs and dairy. But what do the majority do? They would rather not think about it. They pretend that animals don't really feel fear or pain at all. Or they use some sort of convoluted logic to prove that hurting and killing animals is really OK.
    I know that one day, when humanity has advanced quite a bit, this animal torture and slaughter will be made illegal. But it will take a very long time.

    I’m vegan but I can sometimes get confused about this question. I recognize that if I don’t know if animals feel pain, then I also don’t know if humans feel pain, but how do I actually know that what humans call pain is actually pain that I feel? How do I even know it’s pain at all? I can’t hop into their experience. It’s just a philosophical over-complication. But just because we both have physical human Brian’s and act in a way to avoid damage to our bodies, how does that conclude others feel pain?

    If we can all understand that animals use their eyes to see, ears to hear, noses to smell, mouths to eat, legs to walk, feathers to fly, fins to swim, genitalia to procreate, bowels to defecate, etc, why can't people understand that they can also use their brains to think, feel, be rational, be aware of their surroundings and other animals and in some cases, be self-aware!?
    There's a reason why they call it Animal Cruelty, Cruelty as in they're experiencing pain, but apparently that logic goes out the window when its NOT a pet or a performance animal.

    On the sufferings of animals: I would even argue that these animals have a higher capacity to suffer. Since we humans posess a conscious intellect and reason we are more aware of what's going on, whereas an animal does not have this an is therefore completely dependent on its senses. Also, hawks have better eyes than humans, elephants have better ears than humans, and dogs have better noses than humans - we admit that some animals perceive some senses more intense. So why shoudn't some animals perceive pain more intense than humans? Add that with the fact that the animals in factory farms and slaughterhouses have no idea what's going on which causes fear and anxiety, literally terror which adds even further to the suffering. In that regards, the current sufferings of animals in the production of meat and other animal products vastly outweighs any suffering humanity has to endure currently, just by the sheer numbers alone: 60 billion land animals that humans exploit compared to 8 billion humans on earth. If you're a rational utilitarian, then going vegan definitely has a higher moral priority than any other human rights issue right now.

      Hurting women is worse than hurting animals because women animals are stronger and women are more sensitive, also it’s pretty easy to tell which is more sensitive an animal or a woman, women are definitely more sensitive than cats, because if you yell at a woman or a little girl, they will cry, but if you yell at a cat, they will get mad back, I think that’s proof that women and little girls are more sensitive than cats

    Honestly I really thought this was a reason no one would ever use to justify eating animals. However someone did in a polite response to a comment to a pro vegan comment I made. When I sent them links proving that animals can experience even complex emotions they were stunned. They didn't even realise that animals felt physical pain let alone emotional pain.
    I must admit I was surprised that someone did not know this but at least they were open to learning about it. I am not sure it was enough to turn them vegan but it's one less justification for not doing so ticked off the list I suppose!

  • @Doomemdtrader
    @Doomemdtrader 4 года назад

    Well, if we purely look towards the argument 'if it feels pain, do we have a morality that restrict us from eating it', there are also animals that do not have similar biological structures to bundle the pain receptors as we humans have. So, can we eat those? There are also living organism that have similar receptors but not fabricated from the same materials as our nerve system, but does transmit signals. There are plants that closes its leaves when touched. You could classify that as a pain reaction as well. Or do vegans consider them to be superior moral compared to meat eaters that only they can judge on these ethical conclusions?
    Are rats allowed to met with compassion when they feast on our food, or is mass extermination allowed on them? How about mosquitoes? Spiders, locust, snails, or worms? Where is the boundary of the animal kingdom where it stops being immoral to eat them?

    Just saw a video of you on Facebook. We dont have to kill animals, so, those animals which dont have any predators and they overgrowth and kill all the ecosisytem that we built. Like for example wild pigs. In Spain this animal right now its a threat to any growing crops and farms. So what can you do about it? For ages the human has been that predator which has taken care of the animal pyramid, for those animals which dont have any predators.
    You´ve got a nice point of view though.
    And also, i dont think only with vegetables the whole humanity could survive. Its way too much.

    • @suzanajosic9501
      @suzanajosic9501 6 лет назад +2

      Heart Of fury Vegans don't just eat vegetables. We eat everything you do just without the animal products (pasta, pizza, burgers, fish and chips), there is a vegan version of everything you eat. A lot of what you eat is already vegan (oatmeal and fruit, pasta and veg, potatoes and greens etc) And the only reason we have so many animals is bc they are bred into existence by the animal agriculture industry. Don't support the meat/dairy/egg industry and they won't be bred anymore. Animals will never overrun humans.

    • @Lackssshahdgghdhd
      @Lackssshahdgghdhd 6 лет назад

      No, since always, for example, with wolves, if the humans hadnt hunt them, like in past ocasions, for example in Spain, they were a threat to villages and town, they killed all the prey they could becouse they didnt have any predators. They started droping down deer numbers and rabbits. Deforstation started happening. It has to be controled, otherwise the ecosystem falls. Like it has done before, like its happening now. Spain is infested with wild pigs, becouse there is not enough predators to take them down, which those predators are the human beings. Wild pigs aren´t bred into existence. Neither are wolves.

    Pain and suffering takes up attention and mindfulness. This means that this distorts navigation on a deeper level. As such even at the layer where we are better than innocent - where we are simply improving and administrating a harmful continuity situation (such as a serial killer or child rapist) - we are caused damage in energetical affect.
    Remember that this reality, while very real, is only one type of structuring of the energy. I think we can take over what exists externally, to an extent and where it makes sense; affect one way means affect both ways.
    So while it matters how harmful something is; as long as the baselayer is that we can suffer... two distinct layers; 1. Can something suffer, 2. How harmful is it?
    Still, getting surgery where you have to lay still can be better as this enables navigation later on whereabouts sustainaned damage can hinder moving about the energies later.

    The laws you speak of have nothing to do with compassion and welfare. In the eyes of the law, certain animals are classed as property and legally treated no different to that of a car or phone. The legal system is void of compassion, empathy or anything good.

    Reason to as of why it is not moral and illegal to harm dogs and other pets is because of our culture, whereas in China they have a completely different culture and therefore morals. Morals develop because of culture and therefore it isn’t correct to compare and use it as flagship evidence, yet it is certainly still relevant.
    Although harming dogs in Britain is illegal that is down to our culture and the morals which are a consequence of British culture.

    • @giotag1819
      @giotag1819 6 лет назад

      The underlying moral principles, like the Golden Rule, are the same in all cultures, but in all cultures, some groups are arbitrarily excluded from "the circle of compassion", depending on local culinary traditions and other factors that should play no role in our moral decisions.
