    Many moons ago I was working with the speaker company JBL and I went with the midland area chief sales rep to a club in Birmingham called Studebakers to put new sub bass drivers in the sub bass bins, which was a successful operation, reason being that the bass was disturbing the neighbours. Six months after that we had to go back and changed them to the old specification. Turns out that for the previous 6 months Birmingham city council had been plagued with calls and investigations on to poltergeist activity in a 5 miles circumference from the club. Only finding the source when a new guy turned up and with a map drew a big circle on the map and looks at what was in the middle. People had been having things moving around the houses and things falling and smashing. The bass field was reaching critical mass over the 5 miles distance and the resonant frequency just hit max. lol Sound is a powerful thing. elephants have flat feet and big ears to hear the stuff that we cant . Wonderful stuff . . . huh?

    Ingenious experiment. Who thought of the shaker? How did you acquire one, and for use in the field?
    I'm also curious about the ethics of disrupting the elephants. What season was the experiment done? Would they have had to go far for another source of water and safety?

    I'm sure these amazing Elephant's aren't just detecting other's of their kind - they know they're part of Mother Earth Herself so certainly they can detect countless movement's through the Earth like on-coming weather event's nor other animal migrating.
    I'd be willing 2 bet they can even feel predator's long before they approach the herd since they usually attack in a group.... Seeing how physically n emotionally attached Elephant's are toward each family member it seems obvious they'd develop the skill's 2 save them from any threat or danger : (

    This experiment is the moral equivalent of yelling fire in a movie theater to see if people will run. Atrocious disrespect for the intelligence of elephants.

    • @oconnellrodwell
      @oconnellrodwell Год назад +1

      Hello Default Name. I just noticed your post, being the first time I visited this site. Thank you for sharing your perspective. I thought I would reach out to let you know that this experiment was meant to test the elephant's ability to discriminate subtle frequency differences between known and unknown callers through the ground to understand the sophistication of their vibration detection pathway. We did this study to see if we might be able to use vibrational cues to deter elephants from entering crops, as well as possibly as an early warning system for farmers where sensors would detect their footfall patterns near farms. In addition to all of this, we are learning the sophistication of the elephants ability to detect vibrations through bone conduction and somatosensory pathways to inform human hearing aids. I'm so sorry that you felt that we were disrespecting these magnificent beings. You might appreciate the fact that our scientific publications show that in fact elephants can discern the notion of "fire in a movie theater" and respond accordingly--i.e. do not respond to strangers, but respond to know individuals--equivalent to your aunt's voice yelling a warning.

      Jose Gonzalez Please, tell us what it is about how scientific experiments work that nullifies their objection? In other words, how does this experiment NOT deny these elephants their drink of water or bath or anything else they had in mind before they were scared off? I understand why scientists would want to study this, but it's so ignorant to manipulate them this way, to chase them away from their water. First, could they not have used another call besides the alarm, inciting fear?
    And second, it's time we quit acting like Nature's creatures are just things, not bothering to try to communicate with them, to let them know about the testing. We could perhaps respect them enough to seek their cooperation, their permission, instead of just coldly manipulating them without bothering to inform them.
    Humanity has a history of treating all of nature as subservient to us, as less important than we are, & as being dumb or less intelligent. I, for one, see in this our lesser intelligence - & our disrespect. There is no kindness in this. No, it is not maliciously done - I'm not saying that. Just that it's cold & callous - & arrogant.
    In some ways, we are the ignorant ones. One day we'll find that certain of Nature's creatures are, indeed, more intelligent, or differently intelligent than we are. I hope between now & then we lose some of our arrogance, or we won't be able to even see this higher intelligence in them.
    Love to both the beasts & the scientists. It's not them so much as it is all of science that needs to mature & lose some of its arrogance. I bet these guys are using current "best practices." It's the best practices that need to change. They don't speak well for us.
    Just to be clear: these animals are more than able to send & receive communications. Every such science team should have the services of an Animal Communicator, but absent that, the scientists could at least make the effort to let the animals know what was going on. They're not as ignorant as we take them to be.
    ~♥~

      @angelakristin2927 5 лет назад

      Sita Rainbow You raise a number of exceedingly valid points andI have no argument against any of them. But do you think it's possible to figure out how to inform the elephants they're only being tested so we can learn how they communicate -- without being able to communicate with them? Maybe it is, I don't know. If it isn't, is there no way to reduce the harm enough to make this experiment acceptable given its presumably lofty goal?

    • @debrabiderman4275
      @debrabiderman4275 5 лет назад +1

      Sita Rainbow, this is also what I thought watching this clip. And it is absolutely true that we treat animals as playthings. To be used and abused at our pleasure. It is one of the reasons why I have little respect for the varied religions. They teach a kind of moral superiority of mankind over everything that disgusts me.
