    I've been sewing my whole life (I'm 65), and you gave me four points to know that I never knew before! The one point you gave was to match the stripes and not to worry about the selvage, the other was to draw the curve line before sewing, and the last was to pull from the bobbin thread for gathering. I knew that one, but never followed it per se, so I didn't know why my gathering pulls would lock up. Now I know! The last was the cute way she finished off the zipper with the ribbon. Thanks! This was a great RUclips video!

    I’m a 47 year old father of a 4 year old girl. We are watching this because she insists I start making her dresses. Guess I’m learning a new skill. Luckily I already have a sewing machine I’ve used for repairs my jeans😂. This video is awesome. I appreciate the detailed instructions. I’ll need them!

    Nice with the close-ups! :) I started sewing a dress yesterday, and too late found out, that I've cut it against the grainline. God! why wasn't I born creative???? Like you guys.

    • @melannsfabrics
      @melannsfabrics  5 лет назад +1

      Sybil Stephens hahah I definitely wasn’t born to know sewing. I once made a jumpsuit and it looked like a potato sack, I never wore it... but you learn with mistakes! I’ve made plenty and sometimes you can get away with cutting against the grain line. Depends on the fabric and if you need the stretch.

    I really loved the way you presented this video. I thought you were going to tell me about your day, but you, quite professionally went straight to the point. Nice! When I search for videos on RUclips, I'm already very desperate, and don't have patience, and then some people tell you long stories. Even though the video only last about 19 min., believe me, it will still take me 2 days to make, if I'm lucky. :) Then it is nice to follow the instructions in my own pace, and watch the video maybe 6 times per day, and imagine how many times I have to fast forward, and rewind, to get pass all the talk about God knows what! , as if I have time to spare. :) Anyway, you guys did very well, thanks very much. I absolutely saved your video for further use. :)

    When you buy a pattern does it tell you how much material is required ? does it tell you how to stitch the components together ? Just aquired a sewing machine from my Mum and want to make Dresses for my wife and daughter, Thought it woud be a good challenge. Already fixed and patched up everyone's jeans...now i want to have a go at making a simple Dress !

    • @melannsfabrics
      @melannsfabrics  5 лет назад +1

      Jason Clark yes patterns do give you all this information. Sometimes you can buy patterns and alter them to your standard based on many different factors. For example there are different ways to insert a zipper and to line a dress. This video shows the easiest way to do that but your pattern might describe another method

      xyrel gonzales the machine we are using in this video is the top of the line Pfaff machine called the Icon. Retails here for $13000. Not an ideal starter machine, you can complete a dress like this on a basic straight stitch machine that you can buy for $300-$400AUD. Do not go too cheap, might sound like a bargain but you’re just buying landfill. A good starter machine I’d recommend is the Pfaff Smarter series. Our mechanic thinks it’s a very good quality starter machine. Hope this helps!
