Thanks Jack! After watching this video twice, I contacted Josh last night and purchased a King Street dogear P-90 for my Gibson LP Junior after looking for weeks at pretty much ALL the usual P-90 upgrade options. Josh replied to my e-mail query almost immediately and we had a nice back and forth exchange leading to my purchase. Very excited to be in the queue for this hand-crafted pup. Love your playing and demos! Thanks again. -Brent
Damn! Now that's how a bridge pickup should sound! HiFi heaven. I sold my Jr., like yours, a few years ago. Now I miss it, but tomorrow I'll be picking up an Eastman SB55DC/TV. Jack, you put out such good, articulate and pertinent content. We appreciate it.
Jack I missed the first video you did on this guitar with factory pickup. This sounds amazing right now with the Righteous P90. Has all the tones you could ever want. I'm recently discovering P90's after 40 plus years. I picked up a Noventa Tele a few months ago. I'm like you with mods. I had to get rid of hum and keep the original character so I'm going to change the P90 with a JJN from Seymour Duncan. I really enjoyed the video. Have an awesome Sunday
Like you I made my 2T LPJ mine too. I did the knobs like you, and wiring 50's style but with a 250k tone to tame the highs. The final touch was a OEM tortious shell LPJ pickguard that someone was selling on reverb.
That actually kind of motivates me to get a Les Paul Junior even more because I always wanted one but it seems a bit redundant with the Flying V and ES-225 that I already have and the SG Junior that I would buy before I got a Les Paul Junior but putting in a more 1950s sounding pickup and using it as a guitar for when I want a bit of a punch but not a full on explosion like I get with my hot rodded Gibsons would give it more of a place in my collection than just spending $1000 on one because I think it's cool (not that there's anything wrong with that)
Sweet sounding Jnr Jack 😊I recently upgraded my SG Special with a Music City Bridge "Savvy" and locking studs. It made a big difference in terms of intonation and tone. I would happily recommend it to anyone using a wraparound bridge Gibson.
The Custom Shop P90's are very good. I have a pair on my SG Special (er, they came with them cos it's a custom shop... ) Love the bloody things, incredibly dynamic! Cheers, Pete.
My next guitar will absolutely be an Epiphone Les Paul jnr. I can't afford a Gibson (man yours sounds PHAT!!!!) but for $300AUD used in good condition, I'm getting an Epi LP jnr
$300 plus is what a fret job costs..a fret level and set up is around $175..which most guitars need after wood settles in after a year or two..and your going to waste all that playing time on a guitar that is not worth even refreting ?
@@safarygirlrespectfully disagree with you. I have an Epi Les Paul 59’ Inspired By Gibson, an SG 1961 inspired by Gibson Custom Shop and a regular drab green Firebird. I also own a Gibson Les Paul Jr. None of these guitars needed any kind of fret leveling or work except for the Firebird set up was not a great job. Having said that, most guitars need some type of tweak after using it for a while and a setup is personal preference. The entry level Epi Les Paul obviously is a very inexpensive guitar and sometimes are not that great. I used to have headstock snobbery until my eyes were opened.
Bought one and the volume pot kept cutting out over 8. This was a brand new guitar. QC at Gibson for lower end guitars is definitely dropping. My 58 ML heavy aged LP is perfect but I was disappointed with the Jr. I’m taking it to my tech for upgrades as I love how it plays.
I have a Lukas Nelson model. I changed the wiring to 50's spec, added a bumble bee capacitor and a new pot that measured 515K. That made a HUGE difference. But the real money was in a pickup swap: I put in a Bare Knuckle Mississippi Queen. The guitar is now on par with pretty much anything I've ever used.
Put 330k pots... 😉 50's wiring is the way One last thing, you can play with tone capacitor value. I found that a very low value (56nF polyester) vas great. The sound of a wah pedal in middle position with the knob at zero. Much more usable than the classic muffled sound...
I think about Jr.’s from time to time (SG Jr.’s too), but I play clean 99 percent of the time, more or less trying for a jazz tone, so I live on the neck pickup. I’m not sure if I can get there with just a bridge pickup. I need to check it out.
Sounds great!! I also have a junior with 500k pots. And I guess vintage correct should be 250k for the tone pot.. Think it's worth switching that to 250? What would it do?
I filled out the contact form asking the same question and Josh responded within 15 minutes letting me know that he could certainly make them in dogear--no extra charge. Just indicate it in the order form comments at checkout.
How did you get the Klusons on there? I was under the impression that the holes weren't straight enough to use the three on a plate style on the USA juniors, did you use an adapter bushing or did you straight up dowel and redrill the holes?
Gibson LP Jr design is flawed . I guess they can't play 100% in tune especially in the upper register 12th fret up cause of the flawed bridge ? Tom Bukovac says "Music City Bridges" with fix that . Ever heard of them , Jack ?

Traded my SG Junior for a sick headless Kiesel Osiris 6, the guitar is flawless, but I am still sick with regret about losing the junior..
Big fun! 'Sold!' the minute you started playing in the clean section - open and definitely a touch 'chimey' & bell like. What a great upgrade.

I like your dedication to guitars
Obsession might be more accurate… 😬
I bought an 2009..EPI LES PAUL JR 57 REISSUE...SUNBURST..FANTASTIC GUITAR AT A DECENT PRICE..IMO

Good move ...''make it mine' best advice for all ...cool tones
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful day Jack also Monday is my friends birthday ❤😊

Most people could not hear a difference in one p90 vs another. especially with distortion.
I have a Gibson p90 lying around.... Thanks Jack!
sounds good.
pretty styling too.

great sounding pup
Ohhhhhh, that sounds wonderful!
I changed the pots and capacitor on mine with bournes and made a lot of difference

LP Junior. You know what this guitar has? A big set of balls!!!
I put a wolf tone p 90 on My Hamer Special JR ive Tried The Others But It's The One Cheers !

If a mod improves the clean tone by making it more open and melodic then that is what I would want for my JR. as well.
That's Exactly the sound I get from my Silvertone. It just needs new tuners, and I've gotta get them before the little beast screams again.

Nice review. Have You tríed 57 junior from the Custom shop.? Thanks
No I haven’t but I’d love to
Absolutely

Hey, Jack! Where did you buy the tuners from? And did you need conversion bushings??
I gotta know. Who is JD Flynn and what did he do wrong?
The best sounding P90 I ever heard was a Lollar. It ruined all others.
Can existing studs be used for this bridge or do you need to by the accompaning ones

Switching to a 250k tone pot will make your guitar darker.
How did you put those single line kluson tuners on there without drilling holes??
Interested ......I don't see dog eared p90s?
Send him an email, he’ll make it for you!

I had to ream the holes slightly and use adapter bushings.
@@JackFossett ah cool thanks. I'll look into doing this. What adapter bushings did you use?
@@nickwork6392 Kluson brand ones, they’re available right on Amazon
@@JackFossett thanks man!
Push pull pot would give an additional sound. a series capacitor cuts bass and mellows the output
I wouldn't pay that much for a Gibson. There's too many options out there now.

I have a junior and a special both are awesome, they both are atleast %20 better. Dollar for Dollar they are the best mods I've ever made.
Still sound the same.
Shouldn't Use Stomp Boxes when testing A PICKUPS 😮 Just saying
Sure you should!
Took a bit of time on justification. But worth waiting for.
