When I came home from the Navy in 12/70 this song was real popular, and was the favorite song of a young lady who became a very dear friend. In 1973 she was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease that crippled her in just a few years and took her life in 1980. This brought back a lot of both good and bad memories. Rest in God's bosum, my dear friend Cathy E.
Thank you for sharing.

God Bless you fellow sailor ! When i was in boot camp in early 70's (San Diego) after Mass @ the Catholic Chapel on base, the priest invited a recruit to play for us ......"Classical Gas" and he nailed it !!! This was just a few years after the release of this hit song, no internet etc......amazing . I can only suspect his intent was to go Navy Musician school complete his tour and get G.I. Bill for Julliard.
God bless you,my friend. And from one US military veteran to another, thank you for your service. It's hard to watch someone die. I've had to do it over a dozen times.
La música en tu tiempo era oro puro. Seguro volverás a ver a tu amiga en otro tiempo y lugar.
@@debussy3222 i was fortunate to have grown up in that era. The music today... I flush more valuable things down the toilet.
That was absolutely beautiful Gabriella!!!!🌹💙🙏
19 years ago I went to Europe to play a 5 country, 13 concert solo guitar tour, and practiced for 4 to 8 hours per day for 6 months, playing all the sets in order to "muscle memory" them and try to perfect them. It only took the first month to go from 80% to 90% proficiency but it took the other 5 months to get from 90% to 97% proficiency. Any musician who is in that level of playing will tell you those last 3% are like approaching the speed of light. It's impossible to get past 98%.
My comment from 2 years ago puts her video at 10 or 11 years ago. The difference between them and now is absolutely amazing. I'll just sit on the sidelines now, and listen to masters like Gabriella and Mike Dawes...
My mom died 3 weeks after I completed my China / Malaysia/Singapore/Japan tour a few years after Europe. It took all the wind out of my sails and I don't play anymore. I utterly quit playing after some live stuff in 2010. No desire to play, though I've got guitars and a violin right beside me.
In the late 90's I was telling some students of mine that "The DESIRE TO PLAY is that GIFT OF MUSIC saying, HERE I AM, WORK ME. Music is a form of spiritual communication" One of them said, "I just read that somewhere." I said "I wouldn't doubt it I've been saying it for 20+ years since the mid-70's."
Nathan said, "No, I read it in a magazine." Next day he brought a "Guitar" magazine from an interview with Michael Hedges just before he died, where he said that last part... that music was a form of spiritual communication.
Why do we enjoy music so much? I mean GOOD music that actually transcends this dimension into a different dimension, closer to God's dimension where He dwells alone. I'm not talking about K-Pop or backstreet blokes, or pop music. (Pop is short for popcorn pumper music. Manufactured)
We know the answer to that question. Music is the language of the soul to another soul. If it is inspired, it has 10,000 times more impact than uninspired music.
If it sounds perfect, what does 3% matter?
Gabriella, words cannot express how beautiful you play. God has richly blessed you with the Gift of music…….Good luck in all you do. Iam 71 and have been playing Guitar since I was 7.
I love this piece of music. I grew up with the Beatles……..Vay Con Dios……..Greg
10 bars in and I am an absolute convert! One of the finest examples of Classical Gas I have ever heard or seen. Subscribing now to an 8 year old video.
Even more unbelievable, she's only 23 years old now. She was 15 when this was recorded. Gabriella Evelina Quevedo (born 12 January 1997, Kinna, Sweden)--Wikipedia
Gabriella, I've just thrown my dictionary away as I couldnt find any superlative words to describe your playing, finger picking and chord changes. The amount of practice it must have taken is beyond any measure and then you share it with us. Mason just called, he has hung up his guitar, the baton has been successfully passed on. Thank you Gabriella for all the hard work you put in to master this tune
Thesaurus as well! (ditto)
Damn Colin, that was what I was gonna say...(not). Very beautiful and accurate commentary.
One of my most favorite musical pieces...Mason William's may have done the original, but Gabriella absolutely nails it! Fantastic!
Keep in mind, she had not been playing very long when she played this. This was from over 8 years ago. Wow. This young lady has music in her veins!
That's true but she was also playing 8 hours a day in her early years, that's a lot of practice to get good!

You do Mason Williams proud.
What an amazing job she did. My all time favourite guitar piece. Mason Williams is a genius.
Mason Williams himself would undoubtedly give her his seal of approval just outstanding!!
She was 15 years old when she recorded this.
Let that sink in for a moment.
Still want to complain about her playing?
Who, in their right mind, complains about her playing? Do people really do that?
Did anyone really complain?? She played it perfectly. Holy moly
@@jasonfella265 Yeah there are some real jerks out there. Plus 278 thumbs down.
Go figure
This is absolutely my favorite version of this tune. Why would anyone complain?
@@roadwarrier7358 "Why would anyone complain?"
Because some people are jerks!
So so good..... this girl never fails to deliver....👍🎼
IVE GOT CHILLS FROM YOU AND TEARS AT THE SAME TIME THAT YOU COULD BE SO HUMBLE YET SO TALENTED. THANK YOU
This youngster is spiritually gifted musician, especially at a very young age,she is truly blessed, keep up the good work
Mason Williams was my neighbor many years ago in a small town east of San Diego called Ramona. I’d get a chance to listen to him play every now and then. This young lady has nothing to be ashamed of. She owned it.
Proud to know. Lived in Escondido on and off all my life and never knew the man lived at the other end of the 78.
It's so nice to see her happiness when she realize that she managed the whole song through. Please, don't ever take this video away. The charm factor can not be better than this.
Brilliant performance. Have loved this piece since 1968. Excellent cover.
From what I understand Gabriella does not read music, plays totally by ear and is self taught and does many of her own arrangements....talk about a genius level gift!!! Gabriella your simply AMAZING!!!!
Have you ever heard of Sergio Quevedo?
@Joe Duke was it really difficult... I mean can any type of music, like classical be self taught? Thx
@@rabiesdogchalot492 it’s a challenge but as long as you have patience with yourself and take it step by step and are consistent…you can learn any style, genre, instrument purely by teaching yourself.
Sergio does not play fingerstyle.
Gabriella's playing gladdens my heart. Thank you.
I been playing this since '68 and you're fantastic !
Bravo girl! I watch a lot of music videos. Every now and then I find one that brings tears to my eyes. Bravo!
Excellent!!!
Hank Clark It did move me emotionally and physically. Got a warm feeling & a physical rush.

Me too, time and time again. ;-)
Wonderful
Been watching this girl for over 2yrs and I belive she is growing more and more beautiful by the month.
Mastery encarnate with elegance is always a wonder to behold! 👏 Bravo!
That is probably one of the best non-superstar renditions I have ever heard for this song. She gets full props from me and my family!!!
She is a superstar
Gabriella Quevedo is so obviously GIFTED.
Obviously she has some natural talent but she also practised 5-8 hours a day in her beginning years. That's hard work!
Calm while dynamic, absolute stunning !!! Thank You and wish You all good, Gabriella.
My jealous cup runs over... You're playing is fantastic.
Phenomenal! That is one tough song to play, and you did an excellent job!
I'm getting a kick out all these people bickering about tempo and whatever else.hell this is one hard song to even attempt. Mason Williams would be proud of her and every other piece that she plays also.i enjoy listening to her
It's not perfect but there such a natural way about her music. Someone could play that perfectly and still miss what she's doing.
They’re there on any kind of music video, always criticizing and finding fault with everything,I don’t think they are very intelligent.
In music timing is everything. If your are not born with it then must learn it. Tempo is critical to successful performance just like memory. If you don't have it you must learn it.
How do you know what Mason Williams would think, you simp?
eddie lasowsky i think he’s probably right, you moron.
Why isn't she famous. Fantastic
Made me cry. Thank you
If a repeated view counts to be sure I will watch this again and again until that above will change to 2 million . What a thrilling performance! Brilliant!

Awesome job! One of my favorite songs I listened to on the radio when it was on the charts. Very well done and I enjoyed hearing it.
I agree, outstanding. I learned this piece when just a lad in high school and it is still a part of my repertoire. I love your interpretation.
Wonderful version of this classic. Thank you for sharing it! It's simply awesome!
This is the best guitar cover on you tube .
Absolutely good stuff! Flawless in every way.
Like Ray Charles and a few others Gabriella has that rare ability to make any song she covers her own. Charles uses a different tempo on almost everything he covers but I've never heard ANY criticism of his versions. So why the criticism of this extraordinary young woman's talent. The use of a unique tempo is how they can make it sound so special.
I play it solo to myself in the late 60's, and played at that tempo as well.
Because if you sacrifice the essence of the song with stunted overlapping notes that are often accidentally muted and cut short by playing too fast you no longer have a coherent composition. i'm sure Ray Charles did a fine job provided he did not make those sacrifices. Tempo is established based upon the composition and can vary from artist to artist .
@@sbalak "stunted overlapping notes that are often accidentally muted...", That's a possibility, but not a rule of thumb. I've watched other videos from her where she plays at a lower tempo, and people will still criticize her. Though I def agree here, but also about covers: "Tempo is established based upon the composition and can vary from artist to artist".
I've heard other renditions of this song before, but this is definitely one of the best renditions I've ever heard. Very well done.
Yeah the line to hear her stretches back forever and here she is right before us
I realised at the end that I'd had my mouth wide open throughout the whole thing. Amazing
Really like her version, kinda Spanish guitar sound. My brother taught this to himself on a 12-string (classical) guitar at age 19. He didn't live to see 20, due to a drunk driver. Miss you, Rich.
Always such beautiful music. Musical talent is a fundamental attribute of humanity.
beautiful rendition of a truly timeless classic
Words can't say. I've been playing classical guitar for 40 years. This was magical.
👍👍👍👍lindo
Look up FENG E. AMAZING
I've been attempting to play this song for a while and it is one of the hardest songs I have attempted. This is by far the best cover version I have seen
Dude for real she plays it way faster than I can too
In the classical repertoire, this is a simple piece. This young lady plays it very well.
Simply amazing and to play that well at that tempo ! I LOVE all you do but the sound you get from the Taylor on "Let it be" blows me away. So may thanks .
Heard this song in 1968 and loved it then. You bring it back to life for today.
Great job I love this version
Absolutely incredible... the focus and intensity of chord arrangement and meter in Ulli's playing is second to none for a guitar classic that tests only the most accomplished musicians. I so envy those who command their instruments to such great heights.
So well done within your talent.I'm sure Mason would have a smile and say "I enjoyed your rendition of my song"
Man, that last chord change at the end has always buckled my knees.
I hope Mason Williams sees your video. You performed his masterpiece perfectly!! Glen Campbell must have heard you playing in Music Heaven. You deserve much success and recognition!
Wow, such a great find to subscribe to your channel! You are amazing!!! The best part of every video I've watched so far is your smile at the end of each tune. You are fantastic!

Probably the most beautiful and original interpretation I've heard.
Say what you will... I’m here for the gifted guitar playing and of course the SMILE.
Awesome 👍👍👍
Well done Gabriella. This is one of my favorite songs and you did it justice beautifully.
I’ve been a fan of yours forever. Thank you!
One of the closest versions I have heard, especially technically. And any slight missing feel, will come with maturity. It’s a great version .
I am absolutely in wonder watching your left hand work and how effortlessly you can move it around the fretboard and come out with such crisp sounds. Wonderful performance, thanks for sharing.
Love the way she gives us a head look in middle of a run, that’s concentration... and a victory smile at end of each piece... Incredible talent being shared with us ...
Your version of classical gas, is one of the best I've ever heard. You are true to the composer to your instrument and to yourself. That is all anybody should ever ask of you as an artist. They may ask you to perform music of a certain kind but they are not allowed to tell you how to do it. Art needs emotional content. It's not a science although it has aspects of Science in it. All art must have seen and variation. You balance the two beautifully. So I thank you, very much. For your time your effort that you have dedicated to your art.
When this piece came out by Mason Williams, along time ago, It was like Beethoven playing a very complicated piece of music. Well.....Gabriella plays it today while she is tuning her Tayler Guitar and the rest is history.
Young person, doing something constructive with their life, plays Classical Gas.
Critics, with nothing constructive to say :
Methane gas.
She's incredibly talented 😊😊❤
Young Lady...You are awesome!!!!
Very nice . . .
Gabriella! Thought you might like to read this one. When I was 13 years old and learning to play the guitar, my brother who was 12 at the time and never even picked up a guitar, grabbed mine one day and played that song note for note! I sat there with my jaw dropped in amazment! When he was finished and had put my guitar back down, I got up and gave him a hug and asked him to teach me that song. He said he couldn't teach me but he can remember it in his head. Of course, he turned out to be a genius and was going to Tampa Tech University at the age of 15. Since then, I have never seen or heard from him again but listening to you play it brings back that memory of my brother and fills my heart with joy. Thank You. :)
Load of BS
Lots of wonderful gas, and no gas problem. Absolutely classic. Cheers!
The tempo of this piece of music is what gives it the energy it deserves. Mason Williams created it and it's awesome and Tommy Emmanuel gave it new life and now Gabriela has added yet another take on it that's equally phenomenal.
This is Ulli Boegershausen's arrangement. That doesn't take away from her awesomeness though.
Bravoooooo
Bravo
Oh my the fact you know and mastered this gives me hope,,,Smiles
Beautifully done sweet lady . . .!
beautiful guitar playing from a beautiful girl......so talented....I only wish I had half the talent you have.
talent is learnt, apply your self you can do anything
Disagree. Not everything can be learned if you don't already have the talent for it. No matter how much I practice, I can never be as good a player as she is, and yes, I have tried for 50 years.
Is it possible that you have had bad technique all those years?
Is it true a jealously troll like yourself needs to just go away, Eddie? Please, just go away.
Richard, you haven't tried for 50 years. You seem that you really just haven't put any work or research in.
very nice job - wish I could do that. :)
The best version on RUclips. I keep coming back here every couple of weeks. Especially when my day is full of chaos.
Been listening to Gabriella all morning and then she plays this song. I’m remembering how I play this song and begin to cry.
Wow... Shades of Tommy Emmanual in this performance!
That guitar work is not easy. I really appreciate her type of playing. It sounds so full and robust. It looks like we have another talented guitar player to deal with. There can't be too many!
@Mr. Eric Moonwalk Sorry buddy, I'm here because Gabriella is a world class guitarist.
yes same here world class..
Gawd kid, you are incredible. I love your talent.
The first song I learned on the guitar, Still enjoy it after 40 years. Nice job sweetie.
For all of you criticizing tempo etc, let's see you play this piece. Criticize all you want. Your words don't mean anything until you can prove that you can do it better. This young lady is incredible.
Barbara Dixon I couldn't have said it better........And this young lady IS incredible !
Barbara Dixon Lol defensive much? Fact is fact. If the tempo is off, then the tempo is off. Nothing to get defensive about. You don't have to be a rocket scientist, or in this case, a classical guitarist, to point this out. I seriously have no idea how, in your world, someone has to be better than you to criticize your work. What you said is as silly as saying, "Don't you dare point out someone's spelling errors unless you're a better writer than them!!"
Underr Siegee Did you happen to see that line of text up above, the one just below "Published on Mar, 2012?" Yes, the next line down that says "arranged by Ulli ...." That word "arranged" brings with it all the artistic license you can use to do anything you want. Play it faster. Play it slower. Play it upside-down and backward. It is YOUR ARRANGEMENT and IS NOT meant to be an exact, note-by-note meter-perfect reproduction of the original.Your "Fact is fact" point is baseless and myopic.
I agree Tim....and that is correct. artistic licence is one's own rendition of a score etc...
Excellent point !
Barbara Dixon Thank you
I am also a fan of guitar and everything involved. If this was a live performance then OK sure, the tempo is off, Darn, but its not. its an amazing young girl showing off her talent. not because she is bragging but because people can often get signed this way. She is very talented andI' sure that if she wanted to that she could have perfect tempo.
And Gabriella,
Well done :)
Just incredible Classical Gas is a great song period, but with the backing of an orchestra giving it a strong sound, it is phenomenal but a solo acoustic guitar, with the slightly up tempo allowed this arrangement to carry the entire piece.....This is truly classic and Gabriella is incredible.
I just recently learned that Gabriella is self taught. I think its amazing she can figure out these songs by ear and put her cool little twist on it. I love listening to her.
One of my favorite songs of all time. You do a brilliant rendition of it.
I might get a lot of insults from this, but I like your version way more than Tommy Emmanuel's. I mean, he's just showing how good he is by making a lot of impossible things, but I don't find them good to listen to. He might enjoy playing it, but I don't enjoy hearing it. Yours shows way more warmth, you can really perceive you're feeling the song, and passion is everything in music. It isn't just a "hey everyone, look at me, I'm better than anyone else!".
You are quite right , Tommy Emmanuel seems to need always unnecessary frills. I wonder if he could play the songs the way they are meant to, I suspect not. Artists who need these frills are allways hiding something.I don't like listening to him either. Gabriella rules!
Thought it was just me!
Totally agree with both comments.
@@rs7349 I enjoy them both. I balk at the line "..play the songs the way they were meant to.." as if the original version is the only way somethings ever meant to be played. Most artists get tired of the same old way and tweak their own songs all the time
ITAMrPink I agree. There is technical skill - which Tommy Emmanuel has by the truckload - and there is musicality. Most of the time when I listen to Tommy Emanuel it just sounds too fast. Sure every note is correct, and the virtuosity is dazzling, but he plays so fast it crushes the natural, beautiful sustain of acoustic guitar into a flurry or percussive ‘drum rolls’. Which even then is fine for a traditionally percussive, fast genre like flamenco. But it really sucks the soul out of blues or melodic finger style pieces in his repertoire. Nice to know I’m not the only one who feels this way.
@@Ric-Phillips i partially agree as well, but I found his arrangement online and some of his moves are better than the original. I think a combination would sound good.
I never tire of hearing that song , written back in 68. Incredible, young lady!!!
