Back in the day, I sometimes rode a TX500 to the Yamaha shop I worked at, it would rev to the moon and only got smoother the higher you revved it, and it never stopped, so much better than the 750's of the day.
I thought I missed a revival or reintro of the TX model prefix…..but you are racing an original TX. Cool! They weren’t great back in the day but at least didn’t crack heads like the 750. Hope not was reliable and you had a good result.
JAMES, you created an excellent breakdown of the bike and its capabilities. My cousin Sam bought one of those TX 500s right off the showroom floor and he ran the poo out of it. I bought a TX 750 and I ran it for about 10 or 12,000 miles until the engine grenade it as it turns out the TX 750s or a third but the 500s seem to do quite well. I don’t know what he ever did with that bike. I think he traded it on a Harley. Best of luck to you my friend.
A TX 500? - good god - BITD I had one and it shat itself a few daze after i bought it - a mate had the TX 750 and it did the same - they were horrible bikes, we hated them!
Is the balance shaft removed from this racing engine? I removed electric start and components and now i am having some strange vibrations and chain noise i checked balance chain and it's in spec. Worried that i ruined my engine by removing the electric start.

I would love to know what has been done to these engines, to make them go so well.
As back in the 70,s these engines were total Shite!
