Harmy's Despecialized Editions are meticulous theatrical reconstructions of the original Star Wars trilogy, warts and all. Based on Special Edition releases.
4K77, 4K80 & 4K83 are 4K scans of theatrical prints of the original Star Wars trilogy that have been retrieved, recorded and restored.
D+77, D+80 & OTD83 are partial theatrical reconstructions of the original Star Wars trilogy, primarily reverting the most apparent alterations. Based on Special Edition releases.
Looking forward to Harmy's 3.1... impressive results!
I am very glad we have moved away from using the gout dvd completely it is so bad it was made from a low quality laserdisc the laserdisc rip it was based on looked better then that dvd release I am glad we have moved away from it
I actually don’t understand what people hate so much about it. It rly doesn’t look that bad, even for dvd standards. It’s serviceable at least for the people that find it hard to look for a download link for the despecialized versions
Something that bothers me a lot about the BluRay version is that color filter that makes a lot of scenes look too pinkish, specially in Tatooine scenes that need a more warm color grading.
It looks even worse in the 2004 DVDs, the source of the 2011 Blu-Rays
Disc 1 - 4K83 Extended Cut
Disc 2 - 4K83 Theatrical Cut
funny that 4k83 v2.0 is the most blurry and shadows hide lots of detail present in the other versions
That is because of the quality of the scan used
@@samuel-wankenobi Did 4K83 use the 2020 Blu-Ray as it's primary video source because they looks almost identical to one another with 4K83 v2 clearly rocking it's own film scan
@@Ballowax no but the colours on the 2020 blu ray are the closest to the theatrical version since 1997 since the 2020 blu ray used the same colours as the 1997 special edition and not the colours of the dvd and Blu-ray
@@samuel-wankenobi the 2020 BD used a brand new 4K scan of the negatives in HDR. I'm shocked at how much better this looks.
@@Ballowax yes but it used the 1997 version of bace just with all the 2004 dvd and 2011 blu ray changes added back in
All Disney OT transfers are marred by heavy DNR, low bit-rates, and low gain audio. The real Lucasfilm Blu-ray's are superior in every way.
The 2011 Blu-ray Edition contains many color errors because it was full copy of 2004 DVD Release. Also the Disney Blu-ray is 2160p 4K, the 2011 Blu-ray is 1080p.
@StarWarsClipComparison Excessive DNR blurs detail and robs the Disney releases of any resolution advantage the format has. Disney's 4K Star Wars OT are soft, with fake HDR, and dramatically less impactful sound - representing some of the worst transfers on the 4K Blu-ray format.
What's going on with 4K83? It so blurry. Harmy's on the other hand is just stellar. Metallic colours are so brutal, but skin tones are very lively. Disney's and OTD83 have nice filter, but it applies to everything, it looks nice on metal, but awful on skin. Harmy's Despecialised Edition is still the GOAT.
4k83 is how it was shown back in 1983
4K83 is the purest Star Wars form. It's like being back in time in 1983 and watch it for the first time.
You say that like it's a bad thing. I like blurry.
I think you mean 'soft' not blurry.
I prefer the 4k83 v2.0 Version in this by far.
It preserves the exact colours and therefore atmosphere I remember from my childhood. Sure, you can see the imperfections of the Film in its scan, but that is honestly a positive in my book. If I want more sharpness, I can just crank the slider on my TV, it's not missing detail after all, different from the Disney Bluray.
Yo this shit slaps

And how can i download all this? I Just discovering this!
The Original Trilogy and The Star Wars trilogy websites do require you to jump through some hoops. I was lucky enough to grab Despecialized from a google drive upload that got pulled down. The D+77 versions I had to get signed up on the website forum and use resilio codes.
Yay im early
In this particular comparison, Disney version has excessive red tones that make skin color a little odd looking. The OTD and Harmy's have nice bluish tones that make the Imperial/Death Star scenes look really stand out and look nice, while the 4K looks a little washed out. However, on Tatooine/Jabba's Palace, the 4K looks best with its warm, yellowish tint that complements the sand planet and dust well. Looks more 80s too, I like the way Threepio looks.

Not a fan of Disney star wars but that long shot and zoom in onto CP30 and R2D2 as they made there way to Jaba's palace door was wonderful.
That wasn’t by Disney. That was there in previous releases
disney is the best looking for sure
