Abu Dhabi's Masdar City aims to be green beacon for the world

- Masdar City is Abu Dhabi's attempt to create a "greenprint" for the rest of the world, costing the government US$15 billion. While some energy needed for running the city is drawn from the national grid, a large portion is generated by a solar plant adjacent to the city and solar panels located on rooftops. The effort offsets more than 15,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year, equivalent to taking more than 3,000 cars off the road. Masdar City’s design, which takes inspiration from traditional Arab architecture, includes low-rise buildings, narrow streets made for walking, and strategically-placed shaded areas to save energy and allow more natural light. CNA's Julie Yoo looks at the grand plan and the challenges it involves.

I remember being excited about Masdar as a child before I even discovered that Singapore existed.
Its Crazy U Say That. I Remember Bloomberg Doing A Special On It Back In 2013 ( I Was 21). It Still Seems To Be In The Same Phase Without Progress SMH. How Old Were U & What Year Did U Hear About It?
@@JauMillennia34 I was about 13 and that was in 2008. I was so inspired by it.
@@christopherwillson Wow Thanks For Sharing.I Was Literally Felt The Same As You. It Was Inspirational. So It A Shame To See That It Has Made Little To No Progress SMH.I Hope They Finish What They Originally Dream For It Becoming.
@@JauMillennia34 The videos and concept art for it made it look so good that I was probably always going to be disappointed by the end result. At least I can enjoy that content still : )
3:47 The Red Sea Project is in Saudi Arabia, not Egypt. Also, the UAE and Qatar flags should be swapped.
more than 10 years already this project, seem no progress...
@3:46 The flags of Qatar and UAE are not in the correct place.
The flags are tied to color coded boxes which refer to color coded land masses. So while the flags are not geographically over the countries (which would be impossible at the scale of the image) they are correctly associated with their countries.
@@iandanforth Nope. They're not "correctly associated," lol. The flag next to upper box that says Qatar is actually the UAE's flag. And vice versa for the lower box saying UAE.
#CNA, UAE and Qatar's flags were mixed-up at 3:40. Please be mindful next time.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year of love for smart technologies indeed, I am very much afraid we do not have petrol to burn for other 30 years, we can not wait for the last drop of oil, please convert fossil resources to other natural ones, it's nice to understand that Arabs are this wise to realize, green resources are much more worthy and save oil, it's not to be wasted. Christmas tradition is so cheerful using those low energy electrical fantasies, thet should be used all time of the year and save electrical power, there are several solution friends, get in action, let's save the planet together ❤🎉❤
Pagan traditions.
WHERE IS THE FOOD?
What portion?
They have successfully discovered use of solar panels and shaded walkways...wow!! Over-hyped failed prestige projects!
Ive Been Hearing About Masdar City Since 2013 When They Did The Bloomberg Special On It. And In 11 Years I Can Truly Say I've Seen No Major Difference Nor Progress. Its Seem As If There Still In the Same Phase As They Were I 2013.I Think Its Time To Admit This Project Didn't Meet There Goal. Its Still Impressive & Innovated. But Its Also Was Kind Of A Flop SMH
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Maybe attracting people is challenging because of the long list of human rights abuses in the country? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_the_United_Arab_Emirates
