Built a home on one of the Bell Canals on a dead end street and retired here 5 years ago and it was the best move we ever made quietest place we have ever lived where else can you can have a house on the water and walk out your front yard and jump on your boat and explore the beautiful canals and 2 lakes without spending a fortune only way I would go back to King County etc.. is because of the bad Healthcare here thank god for virtual visits for my doctors in Seattle saves me alot of trips Luv this place! Thanx for the Videos! Good job

We agree! This is a great place to live, but for those people who have medical issues and need certain medical care, it probably isn't the best place to be.

I lived in Ocean Shores for 10 years until 2013. Very windy and wet during every season except summer. Unfortunately when the temperature gets to around 85 in Olympia in the summer the fog will roll in over OS and it will be 55 degrees and horrible. So you don't get much summer. It seems to get warm, like 85 degrees, once a year and that is in May. But when it is beautiful at OS, you would not want to be anywhere else (and it certainly doesn't have to be 85 to be beautiful). I envied people who lived on a canal or lake. That is the place to live. Don't live right on the ocean beach. I have seen (when I volunteered for property watch) million dollar homes just rusting away. It is awful. But I have seen lake and canal homes that are truly beautiful. Yes, only one road out of town and the road is flat for a long ways after that. So in a tsunami you could be in a world of hurt. A lot of OS in only about 10 or 20 feet above sea level and the police will not help you in case of a tsunami. There are getting their family and their dog and getting out as fast as possible. That one road out of town could be a huge bottleneck. But OS is quiet and can be very beautiful. Beach walks are lovely except in high wind that picks sand up and throws it in your face. And the air! Oh the sweet smelling beautiful unpolluted ocean air! Nothing else like it. You really notice it when you return from King County and take that first breath of air when you get out of your car. It can be a little isolating living in OS so I suggest you volunteer and join clubs to meet people. And the community center, the one you pay $150 a year for, is wonderful and a real bargain.

You two really thought this great video through! Excellent coverage of what it's like to move here. You're honest about the few drawbacks, realistic with your reviews on local places and businesses ( I've watched you for a few videos now!) and very easy to understand. We discovered OS ten years ago and bought a house on the Bell canal the same day. We adore pretty much everything, and hope one day for better medical facilities. The three constants are wonder, wind, and waves. Paradise if you don't mind a bit of rain and sand between your toes.

Love your videos. Can you talk about the probability of dredging the bay so marina can be used, Westport fishing excursions and how to find native american fishing guides?

Do you have to belong to the community club? Are you responsible for assessment costs? Great videos

Is the community fee the same as HOA?

Hi there, the community dues are not an HOA, currently $165 per year is for the Community Club membership that gives you access to the Club with a gym, indoor and outdoor pool, sauna, basketball, tennis courts and more! Great deal for all that is included.
