The schools in Clovis teach for high test scores. The vibe is a little "Red Neck". Energy prices through PGE are very high and property taxes are raised the maximum amount every year in Fresno County. Clovis roads and streets are pretty good. Single males driving alone after 9 p.m. will get stopped and checked, especially Friday and Saturday nights. Minorities are under represented in Clovis. The best thing about Clovis are activities in Old Town and the close proximity to the mountains, lakes, and national parks.
I grew up in the Valley’s rural west side, but have lived in Clovis almost 20 years. Moved here for the schools and relative safety and I’m happy we did! Politics here are right-leaning, I’m not, but most folks are friendly and I’ve got lots of friends I love that I don’t politically align with. The heat sucks, but I guess I’m acclimated (probably from doing farm labor work in the valley starting around age 12). Nobody LIKES the heat, but it’s never stopped me from getting things done, no matter how hot it gets. All told, if I can’t live at the coast, this’ll do!
It's been scorching hot in the Central Valley this 4th of July weekend. We visited a friend in Visalia, and it felt like being in a burning inferno. It was miserable, and you didn't want to step outside, even at 8 pm. We finally felt some relief when we got back home to Long Beach, where it was in the mid 80s with a cool breeze.
I hope you had a nice visit at least, aside from the weather! It was 111 degrees in Clovis yesterday. We are heading to Monterey this weekend to avoid the 116 highs. Thankfully, it usually tapers off toward the beginning of August.
Very wrong! The central valley is not the desert. The Central Valley of California has areas that are dry enough to be considered desert, but the region is also home to a variety of other ecosystems.
Need to do one on Fresno because it's Clovis's really big neighbor and when you drive into Clovis there's not much difference. North Fresno is newer and central is older
We left the coast to move here very happy!!! Yes from the 805 where all the people go to Pismo yep from there people back home thought we were crazy we actually live in a nicer area than coast it has beach but if ur local lots of homeless not that there isn’t here and not many jobs see ya! Pismo! Moved to Clovis for quiet suburbs cheaper houses and love the conservative life style! I’ll by is it the fam and be the shooting tourist now :)
When we got here 20 years ago, we bought NE Fresno and still got the good schools at the little less on the house. Willow and Shepard were still a 4-way stop, I miss being on the end of town.
The problem that now plagues the US is... "I don't care about politics"... I used to trust the system. Please open your eyes people and get involved before it's to late.
Lived in Fresno for 30 years. Lived in Clovis for 3 years. Both have positives and negatives but the worst problem I had in Clovis was the fact it’s quite and boring
I don't know if it is still so or not, but it used to be that significant numbers of families in Fresno moved to Clovis "because of the good schools;" that was code for "White students." And the schools stress competition above all else, from kindergarten through high school. Good students in Fresno can place into better public schools than anything Clovis offers. It has been my observation that the stress on competition warps the characters of the children--- and it doesn't guarantee the best results.
get a giant swamp cooler or you will go broke in Clovis. trust me. my cosines PGE bill was 987 dollars last month and she said she still boiled her butt off even at night. she is single and lives alone, I could not even think about what the bill would be for a family. location, location, location. my fathers favorite words. wishing everyone the best.
I will say crime must always been low cause everyone thinks a firework is a shoot out however we did just have a homicide this weekend in Loma vjsta! Yep! 1030 am too they said guy shot a lady
Hey, great question! There are some resources online through City of Clovis that show Utility Rates from 2023. Trash, water, recycle, street sweep, etc…it will vary a bit depending on the area. From those I have asked, it will range between $50-150 (probably closer to the middle) per month. The big expense this time of year is electricity because of the extreme heat. Our bill the last two months has been just under $500 (moderate usage without solar) with a few others expressing similar numbers. On a normal month, we expect to see between 200-300.
Hi Justin 👋🏼 New subscriber here; loving your videos! My allergies get pretty bad in the spring too, but the Neti pot has done wonders for me. If you decide to try it, I hope it works for you too!

To help combat allergies: replace your HVAC filters, invest in a home air purifier, vacuum weekly, clean up after animals and their dander

Very well-put. Thank you for sharing!
Up and outside at 6AM and stop by 10AM. INSIDE the remaining of the day. At 8 PM it might cool down a bit. You survive the heat.

@LivingInClovisCA or October, let's be real, lol... from Willow Ave near Sheppard, haha.
Very fair! October is probably my favorite month in the valley. At this point in the year, I’d consider mid 90s a respite lol
@@Kyle-ch2nkIt doesn't hit 100 in October don't be silly
@@LivingInClovisCAOctober is your favorite? it's still in the hundreds.

Good point, thanks for clarifying! It is technically a dry Mediterranean climate. Thank goodness for irrigation!

I moved away from Clovis because there are too many John and Karen. Fresno accepts diversity but not Clovis.
100 percent true …
Maybe true, but the PD will show up in Clovis under a minute, multiple units. Fresno - not so much …

Housing prices in Clovis are higher than Fresno due to the school district.

I agreed with you! I live in Fresno, still the same 🥵
I prefer a tropical humidity weather is better for your skin. The hot dry weather is bad!!!🥵🥴

I love living and working in Clovis 🚌💨💨💨💨
Thanks for the warning. I just move to Freno instead.
You're welcome! To be fair, I've lived in Fresno abut 50% of my life as well...the same warnings would apply there too.

What is the average spent on utilities a month in a 1700 sqft house?

You can get allergy shots. Usually once a week.
Thanks Wendy! I vaguely remember that being an option when I got tested...something like one shot per week for a few years. Wild!

Hi Jenouveau, thanks for the recommendation. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos!
