The all-time great legend, standing with Elvis and Van Morrison, JF has had more covers done of his songs than any other singer/songwriter. That says it all. Magnificent writer, composer, guitarist, and singer. A true musical genius! Thank you, John, for sharing your genius with us.

"JF has had more covers done of his songs than any other singer/songwriter."
I wouldn't be so sure about that. Hank Williams would have him beat. Chuck Berry would be hard to go past. Paul McCartney probably just on covers of "Yesterday". I could go on, but if you have a cite for the JF reference, I'll happily concede.

I stand by my comment, every word of it. First, I know many of you folks worship the Beatles. I love them myself. No doubt, there were three musical geniuses on their team: George, Paul, John.
Second, by my saying that JF was "the all-time great legend," I did not mean there were not other legends. There are. My family (and I) was in the music publishing business for 25-years. I promise you that any way you figure it, JF had more formal covers of his songs than any of the rest of them. If you do a scale to make the many, many Beatles' songs even with JF's rather light comparable turnout, he wins hands down. If you look at how few songs he put out in comparison without scaling, he wins hands down.
Elvis manipulated his voice better than any singer during his period (1955-77), and Van Morrison produced the most amazing variety of music than anyone else. Those are facts that don't take away from the genius of Janis Joplin, Tori Amos, Alanis Morrissett's ability to manipulate their voices, their vibrato. Elvis, e.g., is the only singer who could consistently move from baritone to tenor with the ease of an eagle's glide, and I mean within verses, by using alternating parallelism and/or contrasting parallelism.
Now, none of the Beatles had the slightest bit of ability to manipulate their voices. They could hardly hold a note over a beat. (I think Paul did once in one of his more complex songs as Wings.) Does that take away from their genius in what they did do? No!
Their genius, as did JF's, Elvis', and Van's lay elsewhere, in the main, in putting together some of the greatest harmonies, rhythms, simple lyrics, wonderful beat, and excellent guitar solos by George (which did more for their music than he got credit for).

lilly bloom: “none of the Beatles had the slightest bit of ability to manipulate their voices” Thank u for a great touch of funny in those dark times😂. Ur not a beatles fan... ur choice, but don’t ever compare JF to them or to Elvis otherwise u just look like an idiot. Stats are also against ur saying about JF being cover more than The Beatles. Yesterday on its own has enough cover version to beat all JF’s songs. Sry, stay in ur bubble. Btw i really like JF and i consider him as a pioneer of rock/pop.

Honestly I'm pretty sure it's 'tane - as in Octane - as in Pumped a lot of Gas! Gasoline. Yup. Workin' pumpin' gas. He's talking about his various jobs; it has to rhyme. Pain fits too, though. I don't get the pane reference of other person: washing windows? With a pump? - Edit: oh, it can be short for propane. But that wasn't used in cars. Or it can refer to LSD, but no. Also he maybe did mean pain, he apparently teased about it in an interview, saying he likes to play with word sounds.. But the sheet music says 'tane, apparently, so maybe He added on later. Whatever!
Hard to understand lyrics sometimes. In Bad Moon, I Still don't hear "One eye is taken for an eye", but some other thing about one night... And isn't there the infamous "Oh, there's a bathroom on the right"?!
It's short for octane: I thought... (Can't always trust Google lyrics, btw.)

Thank you, John, for keeping the magic alive and entertaining us all these years. When I was 10 years old, several weeks of my allowance money was regularly spent on CCR singles at TG&Y discount store formerly located on Lankershim Blvd. in North Hollywood, CA. Then, finally, I saved enough to buy Cosmo's Factory at Kmart (on Sherman Way in North Hollyood). The price had a Kmart "C" sticker code on it, so it was only around 3.24! What a deal.
Several days ago on RUclips, I discovered John Fogerty's 1987 North Hollywood performance at the Palomino Club! There he played with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Taj Mahal, in addition to a really really cool band. I lived and worked not far from the Palomino. Cosmo's Factory was the second album I ever bought. I literally wore it out. Loved all the songs, even the ones that were never released as singles. You 'da man. Thank you for sharing your talent. "Best of luck" (which is my standard good-bye to visitors I meet in my volunteer job at my local hospital. There is no finer farewell I could offer anyone).
