I love the meaning behind this song. Rivers' wife Kyoko went through tough times and this song is literally just him saying he's with her to the end, it's really sentimental
Some dark lyrics on this one. References to Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 and the atomic bombings of Japan, but still manages to sound as upbeat as the Beach Boys in their prime. That kind of tension between heaviness and lightness is at the heart of all classic Weezer songs.
When I hear Cuomo make little witty or dark remarks in his music, like the one on Asian parents, I always feel like he's trying to make a little push through on his politically incorrect lyrics as a whole. Without being quite on the same level he was on in the earlier albums.
I've got my concerns with some of the song names, but I've enjoyed every released single from salvation to this so I'm more than faithful the white album will be great too.
+That Guy Who Reviews Albums Still, considering how well known it is to music fans, even more so to musicians, they decided to do it anyway. Hope it is a solid album or they'll get tore up for it.
April 1st comes. I go to the grocery store and by a can of deluxe white albums. I pop one onto the turntables back at home to give it a spin. A familiar drum fill rings out and I suddenly hear Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up. Sweating profusely, I frantically try all the other albums from the can. Same thing over and over and over and over. I HAVE BEEN APRIL FOOOOOOOOOLED
I love this song, what makes it even better is Rivers' wife's response on Genius Lyrics the fact that she resonates so well with this song he wrote specifically for her makes it much more special...
This video is beautiful, also, the part where he meets the lady again, takes a handful and gives her the finger so harmonically along with the music, always gets me.
Agreed. I actually like all of Weezer's new songs. Even Thank God for Girls! It grows on you. So proud to be a Weezer fan. My generation can enjoy all the Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber they want.
+Mr061099 Yeah, hopefully Thank God for Girls was just a test to see if we still hated that post maladroit sound. yes, yes we do. And like Do you Wanna get high, this Rocks.
When I first heard this song on Spotify, I actually thought this was an old song. It gave me an early 2000 feel. I did not know this song came out last year.
I remember sitting in Grade 11 history when I got the noticiation on my phone thst Weezer released a new video. Seeing Blue, Green, Red and then White flash across the screen gave me goosebumps that I still get to this day. This album was the soundtrack of my life for a full summer and I wouldn't give those memories up for anything. I haven't seen my friends I hungout eith that summer in 5 years. We eventually grew apart, I got my heart broken but man. Some of my favourite memories ever were all to the sounds of White. Love this album and I love Weezer until the day I breathe my last breath.

I love weezer, as a newer weezer fan that has a dad that listened to weezer in his 20s it was pretty easy for me to find you guys and fall in love. I love this song because it’s the first one I found by myself and listened to constantly. Keep it up guys.
Yknow when I first heard this song I thought "huh, that's... oddly tasteless to Japanese people" The more I listen, the more confused I got. I mean, there's no real sense of irony, and this album isn't like Pinkerton where we get into the real nitty-gritty of Rivers's thoughts So I looked it up, and... it's about his wife! It's a song written for his wife, after she was going through a hard time. In fact, you can even see Rivers and Kyoko's annotations on the Genius page That's so sweet. I love that so much.
What I loved about this song is that it sounds like it was recorded back in the blue album days and yet it still feels fresh. I'm hoping that the new white album continues to bring back a lot of the sound that Weezer fans grew up with. EWBARITE was great and loved how they went back to their beginning and made a huge difference.
I remember the first time i ever heard this song, it was in a buffalo wild wings in clearwater, florida. this song reminds me of good memories from the beach
this video makes me smile so hard, I would gladly let this man be my king of the world, he's like a toddler in a costume and he's taking his role way too seriously lol
I haven't been hyped for a Weezer album in over a decade. Everything good, and all of the lead singles for this have been amazing. Please don't let me down, guys.
I love the use of the "Only In Dreams" Bassline in the bridge. Great little throw back. I was listening to this track after listening to Pinkerton and If the track was produced the same way as Pinkerton it would have fit in nicely. This is a great Weezer track
weezer. you have been something i keep coming back to. thank you for centring my thoughts. you have been the most influential band when it comes to me being me.
I been a Weezer fan since the Green album and then made my way around the catalog because I was born in 91. By far one of the most consistently clutch rock bands of all time!
+Slacker101 it was ok. they haven't really made a good album since their bassist left after Pinkerton. I'm starting to think he was most of the talent.
bought the blue album when it came out, back then big time college rock played on many college radio stations, loved that album, played it from front to back all the time. this song reminds me a lot of that album.
I love how this song is so radio-friendly but also has little obscure bits in too, giving both fans and the rest of the world what they'll enjoy. This song definitely isn't for everyone but so far, I'm hyped for this album.
A few months ago I was at a restaurant for dinner and they played all this pop and rap songs I didn't recognize. Then this came on and I was like OMG A SONG I FINALLY LIKE.
I love this classic weezer sound that after all this time I think they are really starting to get back. The most recent 3 singles all sound right out of the blue-Pinkerton era and I love it.
+FreshPrinceofSoCal Listen to "I Just Through Out the Love of my Dreams". It's a Pinkerton b-side and it could be interpreted as the girl from Across the Sea's side of the story.
+Phil Fox Whoa that was a damn good song! I need to start finding more b-sides lol I was surprised to hear a woman's voice. It does sound like her side of the story what with the whole "my love is a world away" line.
+Phil Fox IJTOTLOMD is actually one of the tracks from the abandoned album Songs from the Black Hole, which would of been Weezer's second album had it not been cancelled. I have listened to this song probably 50 times. it makes me really hopeful for the new album. Their Beach Boys influence is one of the big things that set them apart. good to see that influence rise again.
I wish they played this at the concert but they were playing their classic songs. I'm not complaining but it still would've been nice to see them play this along with the rest.
I wish I could’ve went to one of their concerts haha but I knew their songs and I wasn’t into them yet. Plus I was too little. Can’t believe this comment is from two years ago.

Verse 1]
You walk by the magazines
Sitting on the rack at the CVS
One more sad movie star divorce
Three hundred died in an airplane wreck
And you think of all the people suffering
And you bury that pain
But you can tell me everything
And we’ll ride on that wave
[Chorus]
If I was king of the world
You’d be my girl
You wouldn’t have to shed one single tear
Unless you wanted to
‘Cause yeah I know what it’s like
If I was king of the world
Yeah, girl
We could ride a Greyhound all the way to the Galapagos
And stay for the rest of our lives(ooohh ohhhh ohhhh ohhh)
[Verse 2]
Dad hit you on the hand
Just for holding your chopsticks wrong
Then your Mom locked you in a shed
And Uncle Sam dropped an atom bomb
But you’re not alone
You can let it go
And just weep on my breast
And cover me with your tenderness
And that pain will pass
[Chorus]
If I was king of the world
You’d be my girl
You wouldn’t have to shed one single tear
Unless you wanted
‘Cause yeah I know what it’s like
If I was king of the world
Yeah, girl
We could ride a Greyhound all the way to the Galapagos
And stay for the rest of our lives(ooohh ohhhh ohhhh ohhh)
[Bridge]
We are the small fish
We swim together(ohh)
No Prozac or Valium
We’ll face tsunamis together
[Chorus]
If I was king of the world
You’d be my girl
You wouldn’t have to shed one single tear
Unless you wanted to
‘Cause yeah I know what it’s like
If I was king of the world
Yeah, girl
We could ride a greyhound all the way to the Galapagos
And stay for the rest of our lives(ooohh ohhhh ohhhh ohhh)
