The reason they tell you that is because you're a beginner! You shouldn't rely only on your wrists. There's plenty of artists who draw from the wrists, but they're professionals already, they know the rules before breaking them.
Its not about quality, you can draw good either way. It's that it's generally better for your wrists in the long term to use your arm more. Arm is great for gestures as well

Arm is great for gestures as well" I am drawing on a graphics tablet - small graphics tablet to be exact (Wacom intuos S) - when i draw Traditionally, basically it's easier for me to draw from arm - But when i draw on that graphics tablet, it's easier for me to draw from a wrist...I tried drawing from an arm with that tablet...and it looked very, very bad - Drawing a circle, using an arm, on tablet that small is a nightmare... Also, to draw with my arm on a tablet that small, i have to basically hover my entire arm above my desk...After like 15 minutes of drawing like that, not only my drawing looks worse than this same drawing, but created using a wrist, but also my arm hurts like hell. So i am drawing mostly with my wrist, sometimes with my elbow...But almost never (if we exclude traditional drawings) with my entire arm.

As someone who used to draw sonic literally everyday in primary school hearing him talk about the nuances of the shiny stick-out nose, how the legs get thicker the further down you go to the ankles and the whole puffed out chest pose really resonated with me. To have studied a character with such passion both he and i, and him especially, essentially saving the entire movie with the last minute redesign just goes to show how dedicated of a community the blue blur had accumulated over the years.
Quickly. Uhm... Also, apparently you shouldn't draw strokes with your wrist and the stroke swings should come a little from the arm and elbow too. That probably helps him draw pretty clean. Other than that, I guess just practice from drawing thousands of circles in the past before. Looking at it closer, the circle is a bit too tall to be a perfect circle... but also, don't worry about it too much, no character has a perfect circle for the head and it should more so be a point of reference for the head.

Tyson's own version of Sonic is so reminiscent of Toei's Sonic, so I love seeing that same kind of style brought to a more realistic approach. Love what this guy does for Sonic!

I remember reading Tyson's old fancomics back in the early 2000s, back in the days when everyone was still doing sprite comics. It's been amazing to see Sega and the official side of the Sonic franchise embracing his art more and more these recent years.

I remember watching this video and I was learning how to actually draw. After this video, I started drawing Sonic like this video a lot more. And then I just started to draw everything like this Sonic style. So this video was the reason why my current art style exists.
Tyson, you have my thanks, sir. Thanks for saving the movie and making Sonic actually look like he's supposed to, as opposed to the original design they unveiled early last year. I actually mean that. I wonder how hard it is for these movie studios to get character designs and costume designs right for iconic characters where people know what the characters look like, and it amazes me when, knowing how a character looks, a studio goes and does it wrong. Think I'm kidding? Two movies come to mind. Dragon Ball Evolution and Super Mario Brothers are two prime examples. The audiences these movies appealed to knew what the characters looked like going into the movie, yet the studios did the designs and costumes wrong. Drives me nuts seeing that.
I have to give props to Tyson for saving the Sonic movie from certain disaster. At first when they first testing the old Sonic character he looks like a big blue blob. Now that Paramount fixed the problem Tyson saved the day!

Tyson Hesse: The hero we needed for the movie and Sonic Mania.
I remember reading Tyson's old fancomics back in the early 2000s, back in the days when everyone was still doing sprite comics. It's been amazing to see Sega and the official side of the Sonic franchise embracing his art more and more these recent years.
I just realized that Sonic's design resembles the old black and white rubberhose cartoons with his face and huge gloves and shoes.
Sega of Japan had the intention to make a character that would be appealing to western people. They took inspiration from Mickey Mouse.
Young me: *Draws Sonic by making a blue circle with spikes and a winky smile.*
Me now: Now I can attempt it again and not feel shame. Nice work, Tyson!

I remember watching this video and I was learning how to actually draw. After this video, I started drawing Sonic like this video a lot more. And then I just started to draw everything like this Sonic style. So this video was the reason why my current art style exists.

Tyson, you have my thanks, sir. Thanks for saving the movie and making Sonic actually look like he's supposed to, as opposed to the original design they unveiled early last year. I actually mean that. I wonder how hard it is for these movie studios to get character designs and costume designs right for iconic characters where people know what the characters look like, and it amazes me when, knowing how a character looks, a studio goes and does it wrong. Think I'm kidding? Two movies come to mind. Dragon Ball Evolution and Super Mario Brothers are two prime examples. The audiences these movies appealed to knew what the characters looked like going into the movie, yet the studios did the designs and costumes wrong. Drives me nuts seeing that.

If IDW did Sonic The Hedgehog(2020) comics, THIS should be their official design for Sonic. Tyson Hesse's art is so spectacular and fitting for Sonic and his friends.
