    We really need Teen Aspirations (have young love? be a rebel? get into college? (teens should be able to apply for college, btw, I hate that we have to wait)). EA dropped the ball when they gave children their own Aspirations and then gave teens adult dreams. We need Elder Aspirations too, EA!!

    Teens need a ‘Crush System’ *in the base game* .Maybe when a teen looks at anyone, in their sentiments, there could be a sentiment like ‘First Crush’ or ‘Breathtaking Crush’. There could also be a flirty or happy moodlet like ‘They are so cute’.
    I also (while I’m here lol) think we should be able to apply preferences. What I mean is who your sim likes. If your sim likes boys or girls or both etc. You could do 50/50, or more one sided etc. So with the crush system mentioned earlier, it’d kinda mesh well together.
    So these are kinda needs I, well, need in The Sims *base game*

    If you have Parenthood, it's a fun challenge in teenhood to try to get one of the 5 character values into the dark red zone so that your teen develops a bonus bad trait when they become young adults. It's fun to add some realism that all of us develop bad habits that we carry into adulthood.

    Sims 4: What teens think they are
    Sims 3: *What teens actually are*

  • @LexTime89
    @LexTime89 3 года назад +152

    Honestly, I feel like what’s really lacking with the sims 4 is that there is no wants or fears. Even if the whims were more impactful, that would be nice. I have almost every pack, and there is so much stuff to do, but zero motivation to do those things unless I specifically remember it exists and choose to do it. Nothing about it really feels like the activities are being organically incorporated into gameplay.

    • @elsaloveme1639
      @elsaloveme1639 3 года назад +20

      Exactly. I literally have to research what you can do with each pack from time to time, because all the features are poorly implemented and easily forgettable. It doesn’t feel like an ecosystem of options… especially since sims will just want to use the nearest computer or watch tv. They never really have any depth or individual characterization, but rather feel like mannequins, which is not funny because everything is always predictable. Moreover, the world itself doesn’t ever challenge you; for example most romantic interactions are usually successful, which makes relationships stagnant; and aspirations are terribly easy and feel more like tutorials and checklists than actual life motifs that affect your sims. The lack of any kind of memory system is terrible, because, for example, when a partner cheats, sims will forget about what happened as soon as you recover the relationship, and it’s like nothing has ever happened. It’s boring because it’s very limited in possibilities, and what is added through expansion packs is never planned to be coherent to other contents. Packs are thought of as standalone addons and not as fitting jigsaw pieces that will eventually make up a bigger image…

    The likes and dislikes update helped me A LOT with my teen gameplay. I create teen-only clubs based on the hobbies my sims like and pretend it's a school club, so I use names like "Highschool's Art Club" or thigs like that, and I create or modify a lot specifically for the club, for example i added a bunch of instruments to a museum for the music club, or a stage on a park for the drama club. I also set an schedule, usually everyday after school I start a club reunion for a few hours and let my teens rest during weekends. If they don't have any hobby I randomize their likes and dislikes so they get assigned one. I also do this with children sometimes :D It's what works the best for me because they make new friends with the same hobbies as them. Also if the sim has strict parents you can put them in a club they hate and pretend they're being forced to do it.

    Instead of postponing their aspiration, I switch them up a lot. Teens don't really know what they want, plus you get aspiration points. What helps having more teens is waiting for some of the townie to have babies before my Sim does.
    I so everything else you said and wholeheartedly agree about the teens pack. If anything needs a refresh, it's them.

    • @suzanneczapracki6558
      @suzanneczapracki6558 3 года назад +3

      I agree! You could give them an aspiration for teen stage, keep it for young adult, then change it when they become an adult.

      @katchibediako7036 3 года назад +4

      @@suzanneczapracki6558 I change their aspiration every couple of days or so because this easily gives them points without cheating since the first tier is usually easy to do, and then, once they become an adult (if I play them that long), they have a headstart on their real aspirations. I switch up the adults, too, because some aspirations (like being popular) don't really feel like a "life goal" to me. They feel like graduated whims. I started doing that because I found that I was completing goals that I could get points (rewards) for.

    They should bring prom back for teens, they could put prom into the calender so we can choose when they go to prom but it should be for teens only or for 1 of your individual teen Sims because you might have more than 1 teen but only want 1 teen to go
    I thought the idea of having their own aspirations is a good idea and it would be a good idea if teens could have their own money so they can earn it before they age up and move out and be able to have a job that you can work on from home for example selling paintings or selling knitting clothing or objects
    They should do after school activities where you choose a skill for them to focus on and they gain 1 skill level every time they do a class but we choose the day or days they do the school activities on

    "Teens are the same as young adults in The Sims 4" OMG so much this! Sure they go to school and have to do homework, but they literally have nothing in the game just for them. Kids get beds and toys that only they can play on. Teens get... umm... everything the adults get. I would LOVE if EA added some teen only hangouts. How about an arcade that was just for teens? Or a teenage "make out" spot. Or a teen night club. I would _love_ to be able to make a lot for just teens - no adults or kids allowed!

    I love these ideas! Recently I realized I've never had a teen plan a party. Parties are a huge thing when you're that age, whether you go to them or not, so I'll definotely get on that. Another tip is to use clubs heavily. It adds so much ambience when I'm taking a sim to the bar and all of a sudden the local teens show up, get drinks and start tearing up the dancefloor.

    One of my favorite save files that I play is a unique world where every sim family is based on a theme like a fruit, stone, drink, or color. I got the idea from reading a webtoon where the three main leads were (Straw) Berry, (Pear) Pierre, and (Walnut) Wally.
    In my save file, one family's last name is "Tea," so everyone in the family is named after a tea drink like the patriarch Earl Grey, his wife Lady Daisy, the daughter Jasmine and the son Black. They start off as teens and go to school (club hangouts) where they learn hobbies and have high school romances.
    Another family that I heavily play is the Blossom family where the parents are separated but get back together once their daughter becomes a young adult. Dad Pear, mom Cherry, and daughter Plum. In this family, they start off as young adults and the daughter starts off as a child and I mostly play it as a single-parent home. The children go to school (club) to finish their childhood aspirations where they also make long-lasting friends and even childhood sweethearts.
    The goal is to see how many people will get into university while still keeping their friends. Some people marry within their club circles, while others find love in a random cafe. MCCommand Center made Jasmine Tea marry a cool-looking girl she met in university named Sofie.
    Plum and Black get married as they both became teen celebrities (Get Famous) and met at a signing event. They later had three kids named Rose Tea, Lavender Tea, and Mint Tea.
    For an added bonus, everyone looked and dressed like how their name implied. For example, Plum has reddish-purple hair and her favorite lip colors are all plum. Her wardrobe has touches of purples, whereas Black has black hair and wears everything black.
    Another thing is their home reflects the people living there. When Black lived with his parents, his room had a very modern black theme. Now that he is married to Plum, their home incorporates both colors in a nice blend while still not being too dramatic in color. Neutral colors, such as stones and woods, help in making the home not look too cartoonish. Also, their phones match their names.
    I mostly focused on the younger generations when I started this save file and did not really play with their parents. By the way, there were more families like the Stone family, the Gem family, the Weather family (not to be confused with EA's Weather family they introduced when seasons came out), etc., I just really love this save file. What made it fun playing with the kids and teens was all the club hangouts with their friends (or enemies).

So I will name the club "Group Chat" or "College Prep" or something like that - and have them hang out. ALSO - I let my teens and young adults actually date around! I used to make them fall in love and get married to their high school sweetheart and that's just not realistic for everyone. Spice it up and have a little bit of dramaaaa :)

    I give my teens an aspiration for them to finish as a teenager that doesn't really have anything to do with their adult life much to help flesh them out as characters. I had two teens, an older brother and a younger sister, the older brother as a child didn't have many friends, so I gave him the friend of the world aspiration as a teenager and his little sister I gave the club leader aspiration from Get Together since she had lots of friends and liked to go out with her friends a lot.

    I don't usually pick my sims future, I let them pick it. Two things I do is play Renaissance as an aspiration or have them do at least the first part of the millionaire one (it keeps track of how much money they add to the family, and they can't move out till they have saved up enough to move out.
    I also buy EVERY skill book in the game, ALL Of them. When I tell my kids to go read something they pick their own book and build a skill to me this is THEIR interests. And their career and what not will go off of what THEY like. This can take your game in different directions ALL the time.

    I love to lean into whims with teens instead of stressing too much about their aspirations yet. They start doing whatever they feel like in the moment and not thinking about the big picture, and I just feel like that's such a teenage vibe. Definitely break curfew a couple times, maybe date and break up just for the drama, y'know teen stuff. It's also an excellent time in life for them to go on adventures like finding the Sylvan Glade (or Forgotten Grotto if they're handy), skinny dipping, rock climbing, snowboarding/skiing/sledding, ice-skating/rollerblading, join/start a club, go shopping with friends (and maybe even swipe something if they're a klepto), have makeover sleepovers with friends and make their whole crew look fresh.
    Creating actual teen hangout spots in the world also really makes a difference! They gave us the teenage hangout lot trait so you can populate the area around the lot with teens from around the world for your teen to interact with. Some great lots for teen hangouts are cafés, libraries, parks, clubs, malls, movie theaters, bowling alleys, pools, community spaces, ruins, abandoned haunted houses, graveyards, space centers, run-down graffiti-covered lots, etc.
    I built a high school that just has a bunch of skill-building equipment in their respective classrooms (you know the expensive, too bulky to fit in your house ones I'm talking about) and gave it a pool and sports fields as well as a stage, music room, art room, and cafeteria, etc. They can't actually use it as a school unless you use a mod, but it's a study spot and hangout. A great place to come and work on homework and skills or be social. If you create clubs for each of the classes, you can kinda actually have school. Especially if the teacher sims have the Mentor trait.

    1) Do a fake prom: Download a teen prom venue off the gallery. Have all of your teen friends there with you & dance the night away. All Teen prom venues have a photo area, refreshments & dance floor. If it's a night club your teen will be in party outfits!
    2) Do a fake graduation: Have your teen's parents, family & close friends all together by throwing a "Dance party" (maybe outdoors or in a gallery teen school) Have your sim take selfies & give your teens a gift for graduation. put a microphone up as if your sim is giving a graduation speech.
    3) Do a fake sleep over: Go over your friend's parent's home order pizza & watch movies. If you have the always welcome trait change into your PJ's and ask to see your friend's Sleep wear & make a teen sleep over.
    4) Make a teen hangout or download one off the gallery: Junk yard, cemetery, have them ride bikes together.
    We have to be really creative for teens because the game doesn't help us at all.

    Thank you so much for the tips! I also found that teens really don't have that much time for hobbies and friendships in the game. The one in my save goes to drama club, and everytime he wants to invite schoolmates over after school, I'm like "forget about it you have activity in 30 min". Then when he comes back, all tired and hungry, he gets some leftover and does his homework, the day's over. Now I'm thinking I'll have him quit the club and spend more time with friends and family. Besides the teens do look too much like YA. My teen looks literally more pumped than his father 😂

    *Also made a uniform that all the teens in the neighbourhood wore as their everyday wear on weekdays.

He came from a very overpowered family so didn't really know hardship but I desided he wanted to try and see the "real world" so he did every job a teenager can, he tried it all and then (in my headcanon) he decided that things need to change, it felt very unique

    One thing I struggle with, for any of my family members, is feeling like I have "time" in game to have the teens go off & do things on their own. I love to have them do it, but the "care for self" never seems to work correctly for the other Sims in the house while you're away. I do often take advantage of other household members being at work, but then feel like i have to rush them home in order to not have everything else slip. Does anyone have tips for managing this?
    One thing I like to add is a couple extra holidays - an extra day after winterfest so they can hang out as a family, play in snow together, go skiing, whatever and a day in summer that is a summer break - so they get a break from school. I especially like to use this for teens that are about to age up so they have a fun day with their family at a park or something before I kick them out (I've really only had teens in my 100 baby challenge) to live their own life.

    The most interesting teen in my game has both the erratic trait and the slob trait. I also gave her a part time job. She's tired, moody and always has hygiene issues. I try to make her do her homework, but its really hard for her to stay on top of everything. I also kept her in the randomly generated clothing when she aged up for too long so she looked like an uncoordinated mess.

    You can have a teen pregnancy without mods by making them an adult having the baby and then turning them back into a teen. I play on console so its like the only way I can make stuff juicer, because like the parent is forced to take care of the kid while the teens at school. Idk but like my brain runs on big drama for the sims otherwise I stop caring about the family

  • @suchadisappointmentaceatto2634

    What I usually do is create a save file that is full of different families and even a school ( if you have the get to school mod) and then have the teens I want to be friends meet each other and start a club/ teen social group ( for example and group like the heathers or plastics) then have them interact with their school and other clubs, the parents, at least for me if they aren’t rich or a karen then their boring characters.
    I would also recommend the height slider mod so you can give them different heights to make them more realistic.

  • @devrh

    I know I’m late posting this lmao, but I use clubs for EVERYTHING.
    I build my own schools for kids and teens and have them create clubs set there so they can skill build (I have them skip actual school/parent writes a note).
    I also do university this way and just cheat them their degrees once they’ve gotten their “major specific” skills high enough (usually 5-7 cause they still need to learn in their field). I like this cause I can create clubs for specific majors and fun campus organizations (environmental club, basketball & dance teams, sororities/frats, etc.). This is one of my favorite ways to play.
    Clubs for different community lots are fun too because then you always have sims there actually doing stuff they should be. I download sims from the gallery for this because I don’t necessarily want to play them, I just want pretty sims at my lots so my sims can flirt lol.
    You can do this for parks, movie theaters, bowling alleys/arcades, comedy clubs at bars, etc.. It’s so much more fun/realistic imo

    I prefer only playing with teens. I give them the ptsd trait alot maybe from their parents getting divorced or the love of their life cheats on them, or even their best friend dying and have them navigate through their emotions, maybe send them to therapy. I recently played a teen sim wherein I made it extra challenging by saying the teen sim was the only sim I could play. So if she didn't have time or energy to clean up or cook food it just didn't happen. Cause we all know in sims 4 sims don't know how to autonomously care for themselves.

    I also take some time to skip school with my teen sims and have them hang out with their friends and chill cause just sending them to school 5 days a week where you can't interact with them gets boring.
    Also, another fun thing is to do make them a sorcerer or a mermaid is super fun. Gives them a young adult novel concept where an everyday teen moonlights as a magic sorcerer or a mermaid.

    Ohh, I should definitely try to send my young sims to socialize more, even because if you get the skill boosting traits from earlier life stages and the scouts, you don't really need to rush with skill building. Too bad it takes so long for your sims to actually meet new people at school, and things are even harder for me: since the game doesn't offer much to do after some time, I play on short lifespan.
    Getting part time jobs also sounds pretty cool, it may not make the most sense gameplay-wise (I'm a satisfaction point freak lol, kinda getting tired of it now tho), but for storytelling purposes, definitely worth trying.
