My Garmin tells me how high I am too! When I get 15 miles into a ride and realize it's not turned on I am too high!
An InReach Mini is a huge win for us married guys trying to keep the wife’s anxiety down. A few check in messages go a long ways.
I just think of EBD as my favorite, weekly, tv show and I look forward to it as the weekend kickoff. #justsayin
My heart is FULL!!
Stumbled across your channel and have been binging! Your storytelling and flow are immaculate. Great cycling content and thanks for the great tips too!
Let’s hear it for Peter! 🤜❤️🤛
@@EverythingsBeenDone aweee shuckkksss
Be prepared! Lookup the "10 Essentials" and always bring them. My rule is if you cant walk out w/in a few hours and or are in and area with few people -- you should be prepared to spend a night. Mechanicals, injury, weather, even other trail users who need aid can force an unexpected overnight. You can build a kit no bigger than a large seat bag. Be safe man!
Another Goldie Locks video! The right amount of everything that's been done.
Thank you Neil! Your positive words are always appreciated.
That was one epic trail and a great job getting thru it. Another nice bike selection. Thanks for the video and take care, Al
Appreciate you Al!
Dude that is insane haha. I do a 15km loop on an MTB trail which has ~300m of elevation and that murders me. You just about did my road cycling limit offroad 😅
As always masterful soundtrack selections. Kudos sir, kudos.
Bro, only two small bottles… You are a brave man. Epic adventure, as always!
water filter and PNW streams for the win!
we are spoiled we can filter very often....except for the last 1/4 of this loop 🤣
Yeah I would've brought a hydropack lol. PNWers are crazy
even my hydropack would run out. less weight on the back and filters with bottles is better here. loads of water in the PNW this year, along with so much overgrowth
@@cccycling5835 that's fair! I understand why on a lot of rides y'all do the filter/bottles, I just think for a ride like this I would be too worried about running out if I didn't bring a like 2-2.5L bladder. But I'm an east coast rider so no stream is safe for that stuff near me lol
It’s the disco music. In my ride today I had about an 11% grade, gravel, for about 20 minutes. And the disco music, your disco music, kept going through my head. They got me to the top of the hill. Peace.
This rules!!
After my car’s built in nav system’s epic failure at back country navigation I picked up a Garmin Outlander. Integrates with InReach as a remote keyboard. Spendy but worth checking out for navigating your vehicle safely to/from remote places.
Love riding around the McKenzie region. You should do an expose on Oakridge riding. Endless gravel, single track, and built up black diamond awesomeness. Oh, and the locals have all started shuttle companies and they aren't jaded about it!
You are totally right. I need to get down to oakridge. I can’t believe I’ve never been. 🤦🏻♂️
Epic ride, beautifully shot and edited. Well done!
Thanks Player
Love that Garmin that you recommended - tells you immediately when you are off track.
"The sun is getting low" seems to be a reoccurring theme in Dustin's adventures. Go big AND go home, I like it! It did get me pretty nervous that one time when I had to navigate an unfamiliar, overgrown trail during sunset, at the shaded side of the hill for an extended period time, by myself...
Fingers crossed!
Cool ride Dustin. Perhaps a Garmin in reach or spot emergency locator would be in order.
+1
Srsly Need to make this happen asap!
Agree, InReach mini
I got my first gravel bike this spring and have been slowly expanding my rides into the backcountry.
I've realized that anything over 50ish miles, I required 3 large bottles. I got a cheap 2 bottle adaptor from Amazon so I can run 3 bottles. Works perfect
Frame bag + hydration bladder. Shock cord, or use one of those fly fishing retractors, to attach the hose to your bars and you can almost handsfree drink and it keeps the center of gravity low.
I use a Zoleo for backcountry communication. It has an sos as well as well as letting you send texts from anywhere. Much less expensive than a Garmin both for purchase and plan. Holds a charge forever and works beautifully.
Sean! Thank you for the heads up on Zoleo. I will check them out.
Perfect combination of epicness, sketchyness and happy ending! :)
Flat peddles would good along with shoes comfortable/safe enough to hike in.
Agreed. That was a swap I thought would have been a good one
oh man these videos are a gem during winter time
Did you play Hanging Lanterns sample? I love that song so much..
Also did you have a camelback and bottles. The water scarcity section was scary. Glad you made it back safe. 😊
just bottles. My action pack is basically my camera bag
Mate looks like you had a blast!!
Impressive, man! And the comment about the light -"I even charged it!"-got me rolling on the floor.
I use the live tracking on the edge 1040 solar all the time when I'm riding in remote areas.
Thank you, dustin I really do look forward to your videos every week
Point A to B and back or back down a fun trail thats it especially when your sweating a mess.Tell people where you go for SAR and dont run out of light.
If you were after a hard tail for riding washboard rough and sketchy gravel would a something like the dv9 be a good choice? Loving the contents and the sounds rock. Chur bro.
It just clicked why I love your narration.it’s pure woody Allen from the film sleeper😂
Adding to the Que!!
Fun video, big fan of backcountry rides.
Where can I find that song you had in the background?
Wow amazing loop and trail…highly recommend flat pedals for a ride like this and kenda regolith just swapped out my rekon with regolith more grip and faster rolling….keep it coming happy trails DK !
I love having the in reach when I'm doing similar solo rides. Agree money well spent
Another amazing video!!
Perfect day out 🏁🏁🎉🎉🎉💪💪🚴♀️🚴♀️
Glad you enjoyed it
As others have said a space blanket, and a whistle, to help signal rescuers after dark.
Love to hear a review of the Ibis DV9, from your perspective
Thats a good idea
I managed to get down there a few weeks ago to finally ride the whole loop. I've been on S Pyramid creek a few times and Scar Mountain once, but never the rest of the trials forming this loop. I love it so much down there, and so bummed to read that portions of S Pyramid Creek trail are in the current Pyramids fire area. Hopefully they get things contained quickly. I'd hate to see this epic route of continuous ancient old growth go up in flames.
"You only need one helmet" he said. "THIS is the killer bike " he said. You are costing me money Dustin!! Love it.
Killed it dude. Nice work.
Player! 🤜💥🤛
Thanks!
You rule! 🤜❤️🤛
Awesome backcountry/into the woods style adventure 🤙 I would have brought an FS bike, but your custom DV9 is not an ordinary hardtail 😎
perfect pre-ride motivation! Thx!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This venture I think calls for some flat pedals and 5-10’s ❤
I totally agree!
I’ve been in the hunt ever since.
Appreciate the suggestion.
And maybe some water in that backpack!
Your vids are so creative. Love the editing style
Awesome. Thanks for sharing your rwgps.
Another big jammie jammed, well done.
What black glasses are you wearing while riding? I need a new pair and those look like they would fit the bill
I sometimes bring water shoes, very light, and if you need to cross a deep river, can keep your socks/shoes dry.
Barefoot seems like a better use of weight and carrying capacity
What an epic trail......what shoes do you use on such rides, do you clip in or not?
So glad the hardtail is recommended for something 😅
Love me some hardtail
Why no hydration pack on your back. on a backcountry solo adventure in the summer? Am I missing something? Your channel rocks and you are funny AF!
Love the gloves. Who are they by
6:47 you should definitely have a hard copy map as well. Never rely on tech alone
This is sage like wisdom & a good tip.
Awesome ride !
Dude! Tell me you are hitting Duthie Bike Park while you’re in WA… great, city run bike park. Perfect place to work on MTB skills progression in a low pressure environment
Im putting this on the list!
Wow, I get MORE nervous riding with other people than alone. PS - love the QR code to the route link. 👌
Paul you are officially my new Muse!
When conserving water, put a round pebble in your mouth. .ove it around from your cheek and gums to under your tongue. Keeps your mouth moist.
THats a clever move for cotton mouth ;)
Lovely editing!
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome adventure. And of course………entertaining
that DV9 is nice
Can you try again next week on this topic for a live stream ?
That forest looks real pretty. Maybe it's time to get a larger water bottle, which could make for an interesting video or livestream.
THe biggest Bottle I can manage..LOL
That’s some serious gnar gnar
this is helpful and all but what about those that already died?
I should have made the video sooner
How do the Exie and DV9 compare to the Ripley you featured in earlier videos?
Can I get your opinion of the DV9, please and thank you?
100% should've brought the full-sus
Sick glasses, Dustin.
Thanks bud
I prefer solo. Did a mtb group ride on new trails a couple months ago. It sucked…I was off the back and pissed. I hate when “casual” group rides turn into a race🙄.
Go solo, cuz' yolo! Love honey stinger.
LOL
Weird numbers, I got 30 miles and 8000 feet of climbing when I did it! 5600 seems really low, you definitely climbed more than that. Either way, rad loop.
You know they make hydration bladders that go in backpacks right? XD
Love his videos, thought the loop would be longer. But all that talking, setting up the camera, takes time. I’m glad I don’t do it any longer.
What’s the vest/harness system you are wearing? Links not working for us in Europe :/
Does the DV9 v2 feel like a trail or XC bike in terms of position and stack height? Do you feel you have your weight centered, on the back wheel or pushing more on the front wheel?
I'm asking because I have a problem with low stacks, having pretty long legs (180cm, 86inseam). Thanks
In Europe, if you are federated they don't charge for rescues.
If not, it's very expensive.
Damn poison ivy and oak are at the top of my list of things I don't miss about north America
i wonder why you didnt bring your warbird
I believe this is the same loop that the Old Cascadia ultra marathons are run on.
Dustin and the Enchanted Wood
The new iPhones have emergency satellite SOS messaging now. Not as useful as an inReach but it’s free with the phone.
Great insight thank you. I would forgo the inreach and hit the SOS only if really needed ;)
@@EverythingsBeenDone My issue with inReach is it’s useless without a subscription. The fine print on iPhones says the satellite SOS is free for 2 years… but nothing about what happens after that. I’m guessing they may be planning a new subscription service to compete with inReach some day.
The Garmin tells you how high you are? 😂
sorry i started laughing lol. How many log jumps was in that video?
pro-tip: if you only charge your battery to 50%, you can save a little weight
I always bring a lighter and an emergency blanket on backwoods adventures just in case i get stuck or lost.
Garmin inreach + Garmin head unit with crash detection + a friend to make sure you are not stopped for too long. As for emergency kit, you should include a space blanket (unfold it and repack it) and a tourniquet.
In my experience, crash detection is a giant PITA. It's way too easy to trigger it if you come to an abrupt stop. Do they make some kind of adjustment to the sensitivity?
@@Schlem Yeah but going solo I'd rather have that then being unconscious by the side of the trail.
The space blanket is a great idea!
@@EverythingsBeenDone They weigh next to nothing, but you really need to unpack it and repack pack it. More than one person has been found frozen to death trying to unpack a space blanket when their hands didn't work well enough to do so.
Thanks!
TOM YOU ARE THE MAN! Thank you!
I don't need a gps to tell me how high I am but I would need it to know the altitude.
very high
how high I am is more important than the altitude
How did the DV9 handle? Been thinking about getting one.
This bike fuggin Rules! Get One and you Will be stoked!
Thanks
3 Cheers for NEIL POOK!
Not sure if those tyre patches will work with your TPU inner tube.
I hope to never find out
No bike pack with water bladder?
I had a filter in my pack
You’re a beast‼️💪💪👍👍🤜🤛
My man!!
You ever come across a friendly Mr. Bigfoot?
Is your water filter rated for urine? Lol that would solve the water issue 😅
Thats a good question
what bike pump do you bring with you on the bike?
I talk about it in the video and put a link in the description
I couldn't tell in the video if you had the right patches for your TPU tube. Be warned Park Tool's website says their patches are "Not compatible with tubeless tire bodies or thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) inner tubes.“
Thank you Kyle!
I rolled the dice on that one.
I’m the exact same way with lights. Peace of mind.
TRANGIA!
you seem to have packed everything, except the rear suspension
🤣😂 your right !
