This is probably one of the most underrated chiptune soundtracks of the current generation. La-Mulana and Cave Story are nice, and they deserve their praise, but this game's soundtrack needs more love!

I just stumbled upon this, and as a musician and retro game music lover, this is just mind-boggingly beautiful.

Even if it's the same melody again and again, the skill for making so much quality variations deserves my respect.
the fact that every track has the same melody is what makes this soundtrack so strong.
Is called a leit motif. Is a recurrent idea in a set of compositions. Tobyfox did the same with delta rune's ost at some points. The best examples are The world revolving and Field of hopes and dreams.

Both this ost and deltarune only sometimes uses the melody as a leitmotif (as in when just the first six notes appear)
Other times they play a lot of (if not the entire) tune. This makes it too long of a reference to consider it a leitmotif.
It’s called “leit” for a reason.
Although there isn’t really a better name for it besides “theme”
same reason i think the n64 goldeneye ost is a classic. its just the james bond theme over and over but theres over 20 heavily varied tunes that all feature it in one way or another. yet they all sound so different and unique

I forget what it’s called, a leitmotif or something, I dunno, but it’s basically where a bunch of songs have the same theme or message, so that’s why they sound similar. @April Summer Alvarez

God damn. I remember this game. I played it at like, 12 years old I think? It was early and shit, man. I think that was the first time i ever stopped and went 'No, I HAVE to beat this even if it kills me!'. I think this was where it all began, honestly, and damn. Time flies, hahaha.
That no death achievement though.
I love chiptune. It gives me a feel of an abandoned dystopian city in a sepia filter.

Flashygoodness is a god of chiptune. Tower of Heaven is comparable to Cave Story in its sense of retro greatness.
Its only flaw is that IT'S TOO SHORT!

I'm so happy that I played Tower of Heaven years ago. I was browsing Armor Games and decided to give it a try, despite the low rating. To this day this little game holds a place in my heart.❤
A big regret I have is that I didn't play this one last time before 2020 ended. Rest in peace, Flash 😢
you can still download the standalone flash projector and get the SWF off of somewhere.
newgrounds and armorgames (and probably a few others) are also actively working on flash replacements that natively play SWF files without the need for the Flash plugin.
flash may be dead but the legacy it created remains
there's also an executable version somewhere out there you can still play that, although it lacks a few features like the level editor

For such a small scale project Tower of Heaven is so powerful and impactful, beautiful little game. I'm in love with this soundtrack.
I remember quitting the game back when it came out because of two reasons. 1. I was a stupid 10-13 year old (somewhere around there). 2. "No going left" (or whatever it was) pissed me off.
After seeing the ToH stage on Rivals of Aether, I was like "Wait, I just thought that it was your run of the mill good flash game" (like Coma). Then I saw the "We getting rid of flash" notifications near the end of last year and decided to go back to it.
Playing through it invoked an emotion I've not felt for a video game in a damn, that sense of childish awe and wonder. I was so fucking angry at myself for thinking it was just another flash game. I remember getting a chill down my spine at the last "cinematic".
I loved every second of it, even the parts that pissed me off a little. I love how there is that sense of emotional weight in the music and some tracks have the same vibe I got when listened to the ambient tacks in Undertale.
If people have not played this game, please do.

It just occurred to me that this game resembles the pacifist battle with Asriel. A cruel God wants you to give up, but you defy him and become friends with him by the end.

One of the greatest soundtracks of all time. Really what a soundtrack can do with a simple flash game is unbelievable. Masterpiece. Equally good as any and better than most triple-A game OSTs.

Ghibli, a Japanese animated film studio, famous for it's big hit films like Spirited Away, Princess Monoke, My Neighbor Totoro.
The films they make have a distinct feel to them, they're very stylistic and well animated, debated to having very human-like characters, which reflect real people in reality.
This game fits the stylistic settings the films have denoting a very simple, yet childlike vibe to them.

Askiisoft just put out a new game for Switch and PC called Katana ZERO. The pixel art is gorgeous (if quite gory), and while the soundtrack isn't in this style of chiptune (nor made by flashygoodness), it's one of the best video game soundtracks put out in a _long_ time.
I really appreciate the format and editing of this video. The counter ticking away with the track list right above it is superb

Still listening B) I actually originally discovered this game because its ost was composed by flashygoodness who co-created the equally awesome pause ahead ost. Both great games, though sadly flash is gone nowadays.
I only found out about this game and its amazing music somewhat recently from a Roblox game of all places, I wish I had known about it sooner. It's some of the best chiptune stuff I've ever heard, so simple and yet so memorable.
Those soundtracks really makes me remember about Megaman Battle Network, especially the ending of MMBN3.
