The keys are like those of a nyckelharpa. Both instruments have keys that are essentially mechanisations of what the fingers do on bowed lyres. If a violinist's bow runs out of hairs, rosin on the wood of the bow will still produce a sound and using a wheel instead is an obvious step to take.

For the interior bracing I used plans from Hurdy Gurdy Crafters but they are out of business. But if you look at the photos in the video you can see the bracing. Each set of top and bottom braces is connected by a 3/8" dowel. The spruce top is SLIGHTLY bent, not much. The brace under the bridge should be positioned so the bridge is half on/half off the brace. If the bridge was completely over the brace it would hurt the sound, if it were off the brace it would be stressful to the top. I used a sump pump steel float arm for the wheel's shaft, it's VERY hard metal that does the trick. The body can be any shape, I chose this one because it's easy to assemble. If you want to know more about how to hook up the shaft just let me know. Maybe someone has a source for complete plans on the Facebook group Hurdy Gurdy Community.
