    Quick note from the maker.
    This particular instrument is first prototype I made from scrap material, just to see if some of my ideas will work.
    That's why it doesn't have proper thingy for disengaging the trompette, and overall built quality is quite poor.
    Final version is more refined and consistent, 11/10 in my opinion. :P
    Thank you Sergio for a nice review.

    I had two of Radoslaw's gurdies a few years ago. He's great to work with and he's grown in skill over the years. The one thing to look out for is that I've had issues with his string pressure adjustment pegs start to bend or strip because they weren't anchored down to the soundboard well enough. Hopefully it's an issue that he's fixed, but you won't know for a few months.

    Few months ago I ordered my first gurdy from Ancestore. It is APLO and I am very looking forward to finally have my hands on it! It has been my dream to play that instrument since my teen years when I first heard the instrument... I hope the learning process will be fun. I play tin whistles and low whistles for many years so at least I am not going start the learning process without any experience with instruments. And also I played keyboards and guitar for few years. I am so excited about the new gurdieeeeee ♥

      I’m confused, did you get a Radoslav or an Aplo? Anyhow they are great instruments to start

    This is the hurdy-gurdy I went for- glad to see you rate it well! Lots of functionality for a low price and a short waiting list. I've had a bit of trouble tuning the strings to get it to sound right though (the fault being my incompetence, not the instrument)- what do you have the melody strings tuned to? Thanks.

    I suspect that the knob may settle down with a bit of use as the surface of the wooden hole get polished from rubbing against the metal crank shaft. If not I wonder if a little dry graphite powder may help? I am not an expert here so for all I know it could do more harm than good.

      We've been playing the catnip hard since December! Maybe it's all the use that has messed with the knob a bit - it still works brilliantly though! Turns nicely, no wiggle!

    Hi, I'm looking to buy my first gurdy and I was wondering which one you would recommend for an entry level instrument, the Catnip B or the Sirena from Sedo Garcia?

    • @Sergio.GonzalezPrats
      @Sergio.GonzalezPrats  9 месяцев назад +1

      I’d definitely go for the sirena because of two things (one is very unfortunate)
      Sirena has solid woods, it’s not plywood and sadly Radoslav the maker of the catnip had a motorbike accident that has put him out of business for a minimum of 6 months :/ I hope he recovers soon

    Why the coins? 😮

    • @Sergio.GonzalezPrats
      @Sergio.GonzalezPrats  9 месяцев назад +3

      we use the coins to dampen some resonance and lower the volume of the chien

    • @7evenslinger
      @7evenslinger 9 месяцев назад

      @@Sergio.GonzalezPrats So, similar to how cello players get rid of wolf notes? I'm on the waiting list for one of these, just curious of what frequencies you're trying to dampen?

    • @Sergio.GonzalezPrats
      @Sergio.GonzalezPrats  9 месяцев назад +2

      @@7evenslinger not my instrument, the owner just thought it sounded better dampening the resonance of the top a little and also muting the chien a bit, experiment when your arrives, it’s worth it

      @Sergio.GonzalezPrats  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@7evenslinger nothing to do with wolf tones

    • @MaxEnloe
      @MaxEnloe 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@7evenslingerhello, this is my partner and I's catnip. You can see Radoslaw's comment about this one being a prototype for a new design. This one has rather quiet melody strings, so the Trompette and drones are overpowering it. The coins make the drone/trompettes quieter and more in balance with the melody strings.
      Radoslaw tells me the production models the balance is much better, and probably won't require coins :)
      We were careful to only put coins where it affects volume without affecting resonance :)
