This instrument is called "hurdy gurdy" and has its roots in the medieval times. It works like a mechanical violin with a wheel bow, that can play bass, melody and rhythm all at once.

"just ask your gurdy-luthier" yeah sure i'll ring him right up
Don't you have a Hurdy Gurdy's Are Us at your local mall ?
Nah just run to walmart
Carl Loewenguth IKR LOL
All five of my local malls have failed, two are being torn down. Turns out that A: malls are a terrible form factor for retail space and B: Capitalism doesn't actually work.
@The Garden of Eatin, Malls are being replaced by online shopping, amazon et al, that is capitalism at work, it fills the needs and wants of the consumer, the high overhead costs of large malls can't compete with online merchants.
Shred wars?
Jared Dines Should have got with her 18 string gurdy builder instead of that rip-off asswipe dude with his Chinese kit for 2018. And yes, I have no idea how I went from Hendrix videos to the gurdy girl but glad I did. She's great! Cheers!
OH MY FUCKING GOD
Fuck! That would be awesome.
Jared Dines fuck yes
Jared wtf why are you here too? 😂
"Just ask your gurdy luthier."
This may be hard to believe, but I don't have one.
My guy delivers; it's pretty sick
Considering as they are almost exclusively hand crafted instruments, finding a gurdy luthier is the only way to acquire one, likely from Europe. Thus they are often made to order and customized to the purchaser’s specifications.
Ugh it’s not complicated just go to the nearest enchanted forest and ask the fairies. Bring some Kinder Egg, the little junkies are addicted to the stuff.
I have business first with my armorer then right over to luthier shoppe.
No proper bard would ever admit this.
That moment when a 21yo revolutionizes a slowly evolving 1000+yo instrument so that she can play Rock and metal with it. These are the kind of people humanity needs.
Ivan ambition, I found myself wondering what kind of music could/would be performed on a hurdy gurdy if the wheel was spun by a motor and lithium-ion batteries, making both of the musicians' hands available for actually playing the notes!
@@goodun2974 The musician uses control of the wheel for expression, using a battery-driven wheel to free up the cranking hand could take that control away from the musician... It would be possible to use a pedal to control some aspects but it would be like asking a violinist to use a pedal to control their bow.
But if you modify it... you void the warrantee. ........ I hate it when people say that. I think as an adult I know the risk I take by drilling a hole in a store bought item. .... I almost always modify everything I buy, because the manufacturer and or inventor, almost always stops short of what the item could be if they just put a little more thought into it before they package it up that way.... For instance.... on a GPS navigator , when you already have the address typed into it and it's already providing directions for you.... BUT you decide to stop off at a convenient store to get gas, or something to eat. As soon as you veer off the path to go to the store..... The GPS Navigator won't shut up with how it's recalculating, and how you're going the wrong direction... it just goes crazy..... and they put no button on the unit to hit like a snooze on an alarm so the unit will shut up.. without going into a drop menu finding the volume , and sliding the virtual up and down slide... all this while driving... So the first thing I did was drill a hole init and install a rocker on/off switch.. in line with the speaker... It's low profile and it doesn't look weird or anything. now I can reach down without looking ... and temporarily turn the sound completely off without interfering with the original path of navigation. Just simply turn it back on when I'm done in the store. NOW... why don't the manufactures do that? so I don't have to... It would be a great feature.. but that's what I mean by they always stop short.
@@trevorforrester3142 , yeah, I'm with ya! I have modified lots of my own tools and devices over the years, such as putting longer cords on my older power tools, adding power indicator lights or LEDs or illuminated switches to electrical devices and power strips that don't have them, adding modular power-inlet jacks to devices that were formerly hardwired or only ran off of batteries, changing knobs to types that aree easier to see and use, and so on. A mute button on my wife's GPS would be helpfull, especially when she calls me from the car and the device is yammering away in the background (a mute button on my wife might occasionally be useful, and I'm sure she'd say the same about me!). By the way, I truly hate how the power adapter jacks on virtually *everything* these days has been changed to the same type of Mini USB jacks that we find on our smartphones. Those flimsy jacks, especially when used on a GPS device that might suddenly slide off the dash or that gets unplugged frequently and stashed under the seat or in the trunk to deter theft, are all too easy to break from frequent connection cycles or when the cable gets yanked on, and nearly impossible to swap out or repair (even for me, an electronics technician with excellent soldering skills!). I secured the cable and connector to the back of the GPS with self- adhesive tie-wrap buttons and cable ties, so that the worst that can happen is the power cable fails from repeated flexing rather than the jack on the device failing. I wish manufacturers of Audio-Video amplifiers and receivers and so on would design the HDMI inputs with a sleeve or tunnel surround the jacks so that the HDMI connector can't be torqued sideways. Those connectors become intermittent or fail frequently and replacing them is nearly impossible. It's just a terrible design. Planned obsolescence that causes so many devices to be thrown out prematurely, clogging landfills and wasting fossil fuel energy and mined materials.
@@donkmeister , perhaps.....but at one time, organists used their feet to operate bellows that pushed air through the pipes; until motors and blowers were developed and organs were built using them, or retrofitted with them. Then we got electronic organs with Oscillator circuits, and rotating Leslie speakers*.....I'm not trying to detract from the charm of completely manually-operated acoustic instruments, just saying that there is always room for innovation. By the way, the first time I saw someone playing a nyckelharpa, I said "what the hell is that?!". A pretty cool instrument, really....
* A Hammond organ through a Leslie, in the hands of someone who knows how to use it, is one of the most awesome sounds you will ever hear, IMHO.

LOOOL
Had no idea such an instrument existed until I played Sea of Thieves
Kris E same here brother man guy dude
Neither did I
Fax me too
I'm not just copying here same I didn't know until I played sea of thives
Look up the Black Sails theme, they used a gurdy for it
I love how genuinely excited you are about your new instrument.
Beautiful instrument! Can't wait to hear you play some songs with it.
she has with the other ones
It looks cool too. It complements her red hair. Cool
ugliest thing i ever seen haha. i guess not my style.
I love it! "If you want Capos, just ask your Gurdy Luthier" next time i am in the local music shop, I will ask them, and wait for the slack jawed confused look!
Try
"I got a fever...and the prescription is....
more hurdy gurdy!"
The people at Guitar Center were so confused.
A luthier probably hand makes custom capos dummies. Flew right over ya heads.
My mother was born in New York City in 1912. When I was a child in the American midwest during the '50s, she'd occasionally reminisce with fascination about "the hurdy-gurdy man" who would busk in the city streets of her youth. For her it was a potent evocation of a time and place, and exotic and foreign to me.
Your passion for your craft is inspiring!
Wow. I’ve heard of these but never saw one. What a cool thing. I love stringed instruments. This is very cool. Thanks for sharing.
The ever lovely Patty with the mother of all Gurdys!
My dear, you are in a category by yourself! In all the world, there's nothing so superb as Irish ingenuity! My late father built cymbaloms as we're Hungarian. I've heard this notion that both instruments were a "dying art," but I don't believe it for a second. I say you are phenomenal! Girl Power!
I really never heard a Hurdy- Gurdy, although I remember the song, HURDY GURDY MAN. Amazing! Thank you for the video.
had always heard of the hurdy gurdy but knew nothing of the instrument..as a craftsman i can only say her instruments are remarkable..the woods the color..the fabrication of the various bridges etc..must have taken many many hours to craft such an instrument and anything that you have that many hours of hands on crafting is going to its own spiritual mojo.as for paddy i must say she is brilliantly talented and quite possibly one of the most radiant young woman that i have ever cast my eyes upon..her beauty and her talent along with presence and comfort while performing makes her a most rare gem indeed. and i like that she has taken an obviously uncommon instrument and is pushing the boundaries of it's possibility's in tonality and performance
Patty, I love your excitement when you describe your instrument and love your humour and accent. 🇨🇦🙏❤️
How exciting to have such a cool instrument built to your personal specs! So much fun.
Your speech is so clear, your speaking is so easy to understand! Your diction is excellent! Your hurdy-gurdy is marvellous!!
I did not realize how intricate an hurdy- gurdy could be. I will investigate this further, very interesting.
My Gurdy Luthier accidently died in a cocaine/dynamite accident, alas.
Yours too? Man, I hate when that happens. Shame it happens so often.
Too many good gurdy luthiers have been lost that way.
From Rock n Roll to Andre Rieu and now this...Greetings from Canada
Not only the cutest music enthusiastic nerd but also innovative and knowledgable. My dear, you are exceptional, and a delight to listen to. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us.
what a kool instrument. Love Ur music
Whoa, I have never seen or heard of one of these. It kind of sounds like a bagpipe. I thought it was an eighteen string guitar when I clicked on this. Was pleasantly surprised!
Your life is now complete
This is the instrument I have finally set my heart on the one I have seen is a deep blue colour I cannot wait to get it.. my neighbours are gonna love me 😆
Seeing your excitement for your new instrument is amazing.
Usually, if a lady told me that she had a green hurdy-gurdy, I'd advise her to wash it.
Haha ! No likes . Unbelievable
😂
Not me guys I love the "natural" look.. She IS BEAUTIFUL In green accents.
Wonder what a Whole Band would sound like??
Not sure more of them, at the same time, would be better.
Brilliant!!!
If it's green it needs more than washing, I'd say
Well I started out watching football hi lites and here I am!
hi lite - isn't that a mild spliff?
I was watching lions kill hyenas!😳
What an amazing instrument, you are very talented!
Beautiful instrument - the verdigris colour also sets off the copper in your heir perfectly!
It never occurred to me that new ones were being made. I thought they were just all very old ones. Nice!
So my last name simons & ive never heard it zeemonz... now i love my last name; thanks patty
You are so talented. I am not a musician, but I love to listen. I am showing your RUclips videos to all my friends who will listen. So far everyone loves your music.
Very cool! I have never heard of this instrument. I love green instruments. Thank you for sharing. 🙏🎶
I am in awe... I mean that is an incredible instrument!!!
She is also mind blowing!!!!
And I thought tuning a Stratocaster was difficult!!!! Deary me!!!
Thanks to this wonderful girl, people can have a chance to learn more about this instrument...
Yes, more people like this on the face of this earth please!!!
The maker charges EUR 10,000 for it...
What did you do to that giant pickle
What'd she do to my pickle?
Oh lordie!!! I just heard a gudy!!!!
What the what ???
1. Brilliant instrument and player.
2. 'GURDY LUTIER'...possibly the best ever combination of words!
I’ve never had much of an idea about a hurdy-gurdy. But that’s a whole new world! Lovely instrument.
Incrível esse instrumento!!! Gostei dos timbres!!! Graves penetrantes! !! Linda cor!!! Não conhecia ! Apesar de ja ter ouvido esse son,,,
Incrível, obrigado desde Brasil!
"Just ask your gurdy luthier." Whew, I was afraid it was going to be a problem at first.
I've never even heard of this instrument before but I met this guy you told me about you and your music is awesome thank you for keeping. That live

Wow Patty I thought I was special when I learned to play guitar. You certainly have me beat. I am so impressed.
You, master maker of this unique piece of art, controller of wood and vibration, may you name this instrument with the most epic name you can imagine!
German guy: TK10
Thank You so much for the passion you have for this beautiful green hurdy gurdy you are an inspiration to all.
No' only amazin' but quite 'umorous to boot! Made me day!
Patty, thank you for your enthuciasm, how much does an instrument cost?
Patty, try some luminescent inlays to see on darker stages etc.
Just what I was thinking luminlay material that you can charge up with a black light sounds like what she might need without the hassle of leds.
Looks great. So cool you added so many features customized just for you. 👍🏼
This is probably the perfect green. Very beautiful hurdy gurdy.
Excellent tutorial but I have to say that the green gurdy contrasted by your lovely red hair and blue eyes makes the whole visual experience, which is equally as important as your considerable talent. Thank you so much!
imagine thinking someone’s physical appearance is as important as their mastery of an ancient, notoriously difficult instrument
ah f Well, her appearance will help assure that she reproduces and is able to pass on her talent to the next generation.
It's Hurdy.
It's a Gurdy.

That is a beautiful instrument. The Green Stain works perfectly well on your Hurdy Gurdy . They sound ' alive ' when being played . As if they are singing of melancholy.
AMAZING!!!!! What a cool instrument and thank you for showing it ! Awesome!!!
Real purdy.
I love the music. My musical talent ends with playing the radio...
This is amazing! This exists! my day is complete!
Stunning! And the instrument looks nice too ;-) Seriously, you are incredibly talented!!
That is a huge gurdy. How heavy is it?
Or a small girl ;-)
Yes, that was going to be my question! I thought the first one would have been somewhat heavy, but this one is so much larger it must be even worse! I hope your back can handle the weight, Patty!
I think Patty said she was like 5'8 in one of the Q&A videos.
Next to me it would look small
Hugey gurdy
I REALLY WANT TO PLAY A HURDY GURDY!
Copernicaso Have enough money to buy a car and you'll be halfway there.
Yep. Start saving. They're not cheap.
Very cool instrument. I used to watch players in Germany. It was the first place I ever saw a hurdy gurdy. Fab.
Incredibly talented and incredibly beautiful - love your videos!
Does it djent?
Those low drone strings are basically djenting all the time.
Bro.....did you not here that extremely low C.......that son of a birch was djent-ing before djent-ing was djent-ing

It's 2:20 am and I'm doing the same. :-)
Yeah me too. 3:31am... First say this video the other night around 2 though.
1:30am and this comment sums up my life
Just think ten months later some dude is in the same oddness. Couple hours off. Lol
Same. I love the hurdy gurdy. It has such an incredible sound. I wish she had played something
Woah I've never seen this instrument before! It looks really awesome and works in so many different ways
this would be perfect for my blues metal ambient project.
I never thought I'd hear the words 'De-tune my trumpet'
Wish you were in Denver Colorado. I would put every bit of my talent toward your music. I love your spirit, your heart and your talent, your passion for playing your instrument and your singing. Everything about you touches my soul.
Love the new Gurdy, I had no idea that’s what it was called. Looks great and I love your voice.
I love ginger ❤️
Call me stupid but this vid taught me *what a gurdy actually is* . I can imagine less interesting ways to learn new things :)
You Miss are awesome. Thank you for introducing me to the hurdy gurdy. If spelled it wrong I apologize. Also I dig your choice in the color green. I also am a large fan of green.
I love your Gurdy Patty,The drones sound much fuller than a regular Gurdy almost like a bagpipes,I love your channel!
Now you can use the Kill(mute) switch to play Buckethead songs. :)

I asked a women if I could see her gurdy once, it earned me a slap.. Worth it.
Hindsight Did it hurdy? Lol.
I asked a woman to help me play my gurdy. She slapped me after I asked her to yank my crank.
Lol. I about choked on my piece of candy when I read that.
cannonball666 Lmfao
Gorgeous. And the hurdy gurdy is super cool too.
I dont know why but I am mesmerised by the sound this instrument makes.
Very cool! How much did it end up costing?
You could get a car for a price of that gurdy.
Norfigrim from Hot Wheels
Thinking it would be priceless/ worth the cost being it's a tool she needs to live her journey through life.
I think she mentions in one of her videos that a really nice hurdy gurdy will run you about 5,000 or 6,000 dollars.
lestat vile
I suspect this one may be even more expensive since everything on it is custom. But, I don’t know. That’s why I asked. :)
This looks like a sci fi spaceship!
The color of that instrument is beautiful! i love green wonderful choice :3
I didn't know tihs instrument could be so complex & adjustable to specific demands, very interesting, thanks !
God looked down upon Earth,
wanted to make it a touch more wonderful & magical, and sent us Patty Gurdy to live live among us mere mortals. :-) Thank Heavens ! :-)
you have a curious accent. Are you you a German who lives in Ireland?
Ní mór dom Gearmáinis a labhairt....
@Josh Marino that would be hilarious
@@FraktalEndlevel She answered that question in a Q&A, and if I remember correctly, she actually did live in Ireland for a while.
You RACIST ASSHOLE!!
it's fascinating to me as well, even as musically pleasing as the instrument
Gorgeous lass Patty being talented as usual! Keep it up 😉
I accidentally started playing your music video you link in the desc at the same time you were demonstrating melodies, and it sounded so cool
