The hurdy gurdy must have been a masterpiece of medieval engineering. I can imagine them taking the same care of an instrument like this as we would a priceless guitar, or set of drums.
You'd be surprised to hear that after a brief period of popularity with rich folk for being a masterpiece of engineering, I read somewhere that these instruments had a bad reputation because homeless prostitutes would often play them for cash because they were easy to learn.

The fell shadows swaying, the wind shifting the pines. The lone wolf and it's crying. Still our hero marches on. Freezing fingers that no gauntlets could keep warm from winter's cold biting maw. He keeps on carrying what little he has to keep him warm: the fire inside & strength of his limbs are all that remain to move the metal, the weight of war, the cold, hard steel of a knight's attire.
