Just built mine Thursday. Im 6'4'', so i decided to take out the rear seats and the passenger front seat and ran it long ways. Im able to lay flat and have room above my head and feet. Now i got a bunch of storage area behind the driver seat and center console for cooler, clothes, and equipment. KEEP UP THE VIDEOS!!! You earned my sub
Now thats smart! Never thought about taking out the front seat. You’ll definitely have a ton of space to sleep and storage. I’m 5’10” so it just enough for me to sleep straight at an angle and I just move the seat forward. I don’t think my wife would be be too fund of not having a seat when I’m home lol but that’s the way to go! Appreciate the sub man 💯
6-4 400lbs here lol. Pretty sure my front seat is about to come out haha
u cld run it all the way to the dash ,,,and use that as a desk media type area ,,,,love to see it !!
@@markymark6928 i would if i could post pictures on YT lol
Young blood keep the positive vibes, I’m 30 years into big truck driving now I’m trying to go smaller, yep this sleep setup is muck smaller but it reduces the wasted junk we carry.
Wish I lived down the road and could have helped you with this project. Glad there are not a bunch of carpenters in here bashing the attempt. Couple basic tips though for future projects... If you turned the 2x4s on the skinny edge, they are much more rigid, and you would have had 0 flex or weakness across the top even with 2 people. Those creeks and pops are because of the flex in the stiffener boards pulling at the screws where they attach into the plywood. You would loose 2" more space in the opening, but gain 4x stiffness. I would drop the height to gain it up top, and make a drawer on each side underneath, but that is getting into other levels of design and skills. Also, when screwing like that, you really want to pre drill near the ends to keep from splitting. Amazon - counter sink bit - for a few bucks. Also, an 80 grit sanding block to knock the sharp edges off everything goes along way in comfort department, while still keeping within the basic DIY level. Good to see beginner attempts at this kinda thing. Thanks for the Hotshot content, keep it up man.
Lol Thanks bro, Yeah I definitely have 0 carpenter experience. Good feedback is always appreciated
How would i screw in the skinny side of the 2X4s? 0 experience here as well thanks for the tips
@@OliviaSeParte see how he has them where they are laying with the 4" (actually 3.5") surface touching or attaching to the plywood? Turn that board and do the layout/measurements so that the 2" (actual 1.5") is the surface that you attach... so kinda "on edge". Look under pretty much any wood table and you should see what I'm talking about. Search for a few "workbench builds" on here, and you will see what I'm talking about as well.
@@OliviaSeParte ruclips.net/video/NcU6tpT4k_I/видео.html This video is a little more than what Macc has going on, but a good visual of the orientation of what im talking about here. GL, and do yourself a favor, draw out your plans, and measure twice / cut once.
@@apt7777 will watch! Thank you
Got me hooked when you said “ I’m here to learn and grow” !!! In the process of getting my CDL! Once I get experience hauling I’m starting my own business! Motivation right here bro!
Man that’s what’s up bro!! Ill see you out there! Appreciate the support 💪🏽💯
Man it’s innovative how you made that bed and giving me insight on what to look forward to. Wonderful
Great job. Keep rolling.
Trying to do the same thanks for the video definitely got me thinking
Very nice truck .I have a 16 2500 diesel towed my camper great
Love that color, man!
🔥🙏🏽
Dude thanks for this. Great idea. Gonna copy this in my 2500
Most definitely bro, glad it helped out man! Super spacious back there. Thanks for the support!
Not a bad build. I would keep the platform as low as the stock seats, So you can sit up and have head room.
Great video man! Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback!! Thank you!
Your truck is a gorgeous color. Love it
Thanks !!! That's ' Lil Red"
Great job
Thanks brother! Appreciate that!
Cool
Love it bro.
Appreciate it
Nice set up! Besides the storage underneath, you can get some space with securing some baskets/nets under the bed for toiletries, lightweight supplies, etc
That's a great idea! Thanks
Hey dood I think you did a great job with it. Be safe on the road. EAST BOUND & DOWN.
Thanks man, I appreciated.
Awesome Job Bro.

My Dad taught me "Measure Twice.....Cut Once" Dad was right.....except I measure three times to be safe LoL!!!! You did good :)
Lol man I probably should have measured 4 or 5 times but with trial and error I got it lol!! Thanks bro!
Like what you doing bro. Just getting into the business myself here in Jacksonville. Keep up the great work. Duvall supports you bro.
Hey I appreciate that man! Jacksonville, FL? And how you liking it so far? Appreciate the support brother!
@@HotshotMacc yes jville. Started out pulling cars for a partner here in jax from the Port. Just got 40ft bigtex flat for the freight and cars. I love it.
I like where you have the fire extinguisher. Quick to get to.
Yeah man I thinks its a great place for it even tho the bracket was a bit pricey lol
Mannnn bro you just gave me a good idea. Getting one of them seat things to sit on while driving, im driving four hours pulling a car and need that
Man hell yeah it’s a life saver when sitting down driving for hours!
Beautiful truck bro! I have the me color in a 2017. Bro check in on the lubrication your going to need for that cp4 fuel pump that your truck came with. Not wanting to scare you, but that pump has to have alot of lubrication in the fuel for it not to fail or it can damage your entire fuel system and can cause you up to 3 to 4 months shop time although im sure u still have warranty.
Yeah Lil red it’s a little Beauty.
Thanks bro! Appreciate the tips and suggestions.
Lateral support Homie. Think about a bridge, picnic table, church pew, country kitchen table, or heavy wood chair.
That lateral support on point!
Say bro always use your tow haul to protect your transmission
Appreciate that bro, I always make sure to have it on. Definitely helps with saving my brakes too.
dont need it always.
Mac how many miles you got on truck now is holding up well thinking getting me 2500 or 3500 wondering worth paying difference get 3500 get aisin transmission
When you sat in the middle on your way out from testing the bed it looked perfect to cut a shitter hole in and put a bucket underneath for #2 emergencies
🤣🤣💯💯💯💯
Looking to get into the hotshot trucking game and your content has really given me alot if valuable info, thanks man.
Glad they’ve helped bro. Continue to soak up knowledge and do tons of research. Blessings bro 🫡💯
This may or may not be an ideal option for you. But I got an A.R.E walk in series camper shell. Then got this air mattress that perfectly fits the bed of the truck. Made by Airbeds. Threw on some thick thermal sheets, blankets, etc. Its pretty damn clutch man. That rear seat cramps me up too bad.
That’s actually sounds hella good bro. I just never did well with an air mattress and always had bad luck with them. Every damn one ends up with a leak somehow. But thats a great idea what you did. The foam topper I got is extremely comfortable, i little pricy but was worth it. I show it in an upcoming video. Thanks for watching and for the feedback !
He pulls a gooseneck trailer. How would a camper shell work?
That sounds really nice the only problem is it's for the fifth wheel
Over prepared is better than under prepared you got it bro
You are absolutely correct!
If you plan to sleep in back seat there's a rule for dit says you must take the armrests off drs so you have the full 96" of sleeping space
Not necessarily for every setup. Hotshots don’t log sleeper birth. Team driving it’s probably more enforced.
Luv the content dawg but what’s wondering what was your measurements from length to width … and also do you have any space , in the front seats ?
Like the sizes of the legs bro
Perfect hotshot sleeper Class C Rv with a enclosed trailer or a flatbed bumper pull 2nd chevy suburban / Ford excursions build a sleeper dot approved back of the suburban and excursions also a Chevy 3500 conversion van or dodge B250 conversion van
Does your 2500 have air bags in the back and do you have a leveling kit on your truck or just stock
All stock bro no bags or kit
We got same truck! Except I went with RV hauling .
That’s what’s up man. I love this truck
E with you ,,,can you recline your front seats back....And can you used that storage in the floor....
I can recline the seats back a bit, not too much and I definitely use all floor space for storage
You can call sealy and give them measurements for mattress, it’s more comfortable than just having a foam topper
Never thought of that 🤔 shoot the one I got plus a pad is pretty comfy and it’s not too bulky like a regular mattress. Thanks for the tip though brotha 👊🏽
@@HotshotMacc Or you can just go on Amazon and order upholstery high density foam that’s like 6 inches thick use that as your base then put memory foam topper on that
@@zachdoesreviews man I’m gonna have to look into that! It’s pretty comfortable right now with the topper I got. I paid $100 for and already cut it to size. Great idea, just wondering if 10” might be to high for me to maneuver lol
@@HotshotMacc there’s high density foam from 2-6 inches on Amazon so maybe order a less thick base of foam 👍🏼
Would you say the 2500 performs just as good as a dually 3500? How much weight can you handle?
I’m not sure I can say that bc I’ve never operated a 3500. My tow capacity is just under 20k
What year and model isg your truck? Amazing color
Thanks, its a 2020 Lonestar
I’m about to do the same thing to my 3500 what were all those sizes you cut to make the bed
Damn bro I can’t remember the dims on the cuts.
What size mattress would you say fits ? Got a 3500 not sure what size to buy if you could give me any suggestions
I bought a full size memory foam mattress from Walmart. Cut it down to size and it works perfectly. I
Not gonna lie. I been trynna figure out the bed set up. I just been sleeping in front seat fully reclined. But I’m 6’5. My hips and back feel everything when i wake up. Side note- the screen looks crazy big. I think i want to upgrade now.
Lol I hear that. I’ve seen ppl remove the fron and back seats and make an L shaped bed. Might helped with your hight but you’ll be giving all but the driver seat. But yeah the screen is big for no reason bro lol
Where did you buy all your straps, tarps, and binders?
www.myteeproducts.com/?sscid=81k5_v1a66&
Do you have to fold knees to sleep or fit door to door
Sleep at an angle
Great vid bro. After taking the seats out, how would you feel about putting them back in once a month?
Thanks bro! Tbh, I would hate to have to breakdown and set up once a month. Just too much time for me at least just to have them in for a week. I just keep them out all the time.
This is hilarious! Keep up being persistent bro. For future reference it may be easier to build the frame inside the truck first. Just a suggestion... not mandatory. Also keep in mind how thick the mattress will be. Consider a foam mattress will be 8-10 inches thick. Every inch raised gets you closer to the ceiling of the truck. If you don’t mind not being able to sit-up it may be no big deal. I am 6’4” so I prefer not to stretch at an angle. I have seen the front seat removed and using the distance from the front to the rear seat alongside your drivers seat as a bed. You still can have storage under the bed near the rear as well as behind the drivers side seat. I am enjoying your journey! Peace Love and Safety to you!
Hey man I appreciate the feedback brother! You are actually right, it’s not until after I did this build I heard of the other option of taking the front seats out. However, I do like the fact that I have my front seat when I’m home and using it for personal reasons. Bc it would be a hassle to take them out and put them back repeatedly. I used a 4” foam mattress. I need to do a video update on my set up bc I ended up having to cut the legs shorter bc it was just too high lol still have room for storage under the entire bottom area so thats a plus. Thanks for watching man and appreciate the love. Stay safe 💪🏽
What is the longest you have left the Ram 2500 on idle with ac on?
All night
Older video, but just a comment.
Could you not use chains from the top to suspend the wood, instead of using legs?
So just 2 or 3 legs on the rear side of the cabin, and use chains from the rearmost cabin pillars to the front of the bed on both ends.
That way underneath the bed you would have a clear floor, gaining 4 inches of room.
Also when not in use you could use a small strap to pull up the bedframe, gaining some extra storage space.
You probably could but thats way beyond what I do.
There is nothing to support chains from the roof. It is very weak metal on any vehicle. The support for the roof comes from the pillars. So you can maybe mount something to the seatbelt bolts.
But it will be way better with legs anyway. It will move too much with it hanging from straps or chains. Legs are the only way to go in reality and you don’t really lose any space.
You’re forgetting about the 6 inch thick mattress you got a put there
Lol
Where did you get your securement gear?
Myteeproducts.com
Hope you put an air mattress on it
I put a 4” memory foam mattress topper.
Bro what size trailer you running on your 2500?
Got a 32ft pj w singles
im 73 inches can i sleep in the back of mega cab ?
still doing hot shots if so I have questions. Also how has the 2500 cummins been treating you
I’m still doing it, the 2500 treated me well for what I was doing. But definitely saw the need to upgrade
What sz tarps did u buy?
I got two lightweight 14oz steel tarps 16’x27’ 🙌
Big problems, need help. I’m currently building mine out in a 06 Silverado. I removed the passenger and back seats. My bed is front to back in the passenger seat space. The problem is the wiring harness that the passenger seat plugged into. It controls the air bags. So ever since I removed it, the circuit stays open and it won’t stop dinging at me. I need a relay or some kind of bypass for the connector. Does anybody know what to do about this?
Man that’s tricky, wish I could have helped but I have no idea how to resolve that.
Got a question for you now that you are a hot shot do you know if you have to stop at scales whenever you don’t have a load on your trailer for example you drop a load off and you’re on your way to pick up another load elsewhere do you have to stop at the scales with your truck and trailer when not loaded?...
Thats a good question bro. From what I’m told, as long as you drive a commercial vehicle you should be stopping at every scale just to be safe. I’m not 100% on if it makes a difference being loaded or not. I plan to get the in cab transponder that tells you if you need to stop or if you can bypass so save time.
@@HotshotMacc are you non cdl or cdl?
@@HotshotMacc what is the cab transponder do you mind putting me on game I run a non cdl set up that would help me alot
This is the biggest reason I've stayed in my semi. I just don't know if I could run like that.
Haha I can definitely understand that. It’s definitely a sacrifice and time getting used to.
I’m working on starting my hot shot buisness in July or august the latest. I don’t have any social media is there a way that I could email you and ask some questions?
Yeah bro shoot me an email. Hotshotmacc@gmail.com
@@HotshotMacc Thanks for sharing videos bro, I am about to start my hotshot and can I hit you on email for some questions ?
Was your vehicle on a level surface?
It was on an incline while working but I reversed it to the street when doing the measurements
@@HotshotMacc dood…..I watch all your videos. Good stuff my man! Keep it up and maybe I’ll see you out there someday! I drive a green Cabellas truck hotshot and just picked up a duelly…..have my CDL Permit (before the deadline) and can’t drive it yet till I get the cdl
Im new to ur channel Puro HTOWN but??? If u diing a bed in yo truck y not do it like a footon bed where u can fold it up like a seat and a bed
Welcome to the channel bro. That’s not a bad idea but I’m not experienced enough to do all that lol
How do you stay cool on hot nights
High idle the truck!
Do you have ELD?
Yes. Have to!
I thought hotshots couldn't sleep in their truck, I wanted to do hotshot a while back and that was one of the biggest cons for me having to rent hotels all the time
Well I am glad you found my video lol
@@HotshotMacc What state are you in? I know in Texas you must have a legit sleeper set up per DOT otherwise you need a hotel room
Still not a DOT regulated sleeper. If using ELD logs, put it into off duty for your 10hrs of rest, because if logged into sleeper berth and you do not have a DOT regulated berth you will not be in compliance and will be put out of service.. Follow the federal driving rules if you are hauling freight. Many blessings!
You are absolutely correct man! That’s exactly what I do and go into off duty, we don’t use sleeper birth in hotshot and I save hotel receipts. We did our research brother. I appreciate the heads up.
That gotta hurt because you are unable to use the 8/2 or 7/3 split sleeper option to pause your clock.
The bed might make it a feet or two higher btw
I had to cut the legs down more after I got the mattress lol ill have another video down the line showing the finished product with the mattress and storage
@@HotshotMacc gotcha
If I were going to build a bed like that I wouldn't use plywood, and that board across the middle will eventually cause some back pain. I would keep the 2x4 box and find a good strong cloth (like denim or canvas) and stretch the fabric across the frame nail or staple the fabric tight and create a kind of hammock. Put your foam mattress on top of that. Most truck drivers have back problems because of what they sleep on. Oh course most truck drivers weigh 350 pounds and that might be the real problem. You'll be ok.
Are you Jamaican?
Yes sr
SHOULD HAVE USED THE KITCHEN TABLE, ITS BIGGER. HA
🤣
Must be short
so that is not a DOT "sleeper".??
Hotshots don’t have sleepers
@@HotshotMacc you are not correct. I just ordered the DOT kit for a Ram 1ton
@@bheat1273 let me be more clear, a DOT sleeper is not a necessity for hotshot. We log our reset as off duty and not sleeper birth. Unless your team driving, a DOT sleeper in a hotshot is not necessarily a need. And at the end of the day, there are gray areas with it. So no this is not a DOR “sleeper”. Can you buy a DOT sleeper setup for a hotshot? Yes, if you feel it’s necessary.
@@HotshotMacc yes of course. Running a team. Double the time during the week. Like 2 weeks in one
@@bheat1273 yeah that definitely makes sense. My bad I should have been more clear in the initial response but you are doing the right thing if running a team 💪🏽
That's too high man, I wanna know how that h*** you're gonna get out of there every morning after sleep.
Easy, over the center console and onto my driver seat. Do it all the time and comfortably 😎
