Thank you for making this video. The story of how the RCC murdered Jan Hus after promising him safe passage is a tragedy that must never be forgotten by Protestant Christians.
I can sure you that in Czechia he will not be forgotten. In his hometown (Husinec) they're celebrations called "Husovy oslavy" ("Huss Celebrations")which happens at 6th July to 9th July (I'm not sure about the date when it ends)
Jan Hus, my friend, is gaining traction in the communities in which his name is welcome, and unwelcome. Christopher Hitchens (RIP, sir) talked about Jan Hus, briefly, in this seminar. For an educated and erudite person such as Chris Hitchens to mention Jan Hus IS a big deal. Thank you for this video. Fascinating person to take such a stand when the stakes (no pun intended) were so high. Jan Hus's burning alive goes waaaayyy beyond the lukewarm "Canceling" so popular with the kids and Mush Brains of today. Thank you!
The Czech people didn't take kindly to the murder of Jan Hus, it sparked the "Hussite Wars" wich culminated in the creation of the Czech church that was mostly independent from Rome.
John Wycliffe was the first one to say that the bible should be written in english language. Jan Hus was the first one to preach such ideas on continental Europe and Martin Luther got the credit for everything that Wycliffe and Hus fought and died before Luther.
That "Hus" isn't his last name. It's his shorter nickname for "Jan z Husi" which stands for "John from Husi". Husi is shorter name for the town where he was born- Husinec. But yeah "hus" also stands for goose.
I just discovered Jan Hus in the game Kingdom Come: Delivrance. I've never heard of him before..
I used this as part of my son’s history lesson this morning. Thank you for creating short, interesting videos of historic people.
We are glad you found this useful Jason! Thank you so much for your support 😊
