So far you are the only one I've seen break down the "really crazy part..well done I am subscribed and look forward to your next video. Mike from Santa Cruz CA
Great job dude. Every other video is "I don't know what he's doing. That's crazy." This guy does it great. With the palm muting you can't tell you're not picking it. Sounds great buddy! Quick lift for such a demanding tune. Thanks for posting this!
Subscribed! Great job, love your humble demeanour, not to mention your skill! Awesome job analysing a complicated solo and even better in communicating it. Thanks a mill 🙏🏻
This was amazing! A great play through that makes me think I could actually play this :) Will give it a shot this weekend! 😅 You've definitely won a subscriber! Thanks from a long time Nuno fan🙏🏼🙏🏼
As an Extreme fan of three decades, the wildest thing about this whole song is that it’s suddenly in (drop D) standard tuning after a career of tuning down a half step.
@@the_a_miller Pls take a look at Combustion from Giant 3 Dann Huff for me. I don’t have much spare time to break it down and I would love to play it. Cheers Brother
This is one of the craziest guitar parts I ever heard. Full with picking but sounds like hammer ons with short delay like a wide guitar space. Amazing. That's Nuno...
Thanks for explaining this, he has done this technique several times over the years. Check out the solo for "Peacemaker Die" off 3 sides for another good example of it. He definitely does not pick every note he just heavily palm mutes to give it that percussive effect pretty much like you're doing.
whoa!!!! thank you for this., i love nuno and this by far the wildest thing ive heard from him., ., great breakdown ., now its time to learn it., and i cant play fast at all lol
Gotta learn to crawl, before you learn to walk, before you learn to jog, before you learn to run, before you learn to sprint. 💪🏻 Just practice it consistently and you’ll make great progress!
Good stuff man, very helpful! Also love all the Nuno guitars and I even see his old Randall Sig amps. I need to see if you ever covered solo of Get The Funk Out now.
nice lesson! Thanks for all parts but I think that Nuno plays the riff for chorus on 6string. Try to transfer the same notes you play from A string for E6 string. It will be much deeper and darker. :)
There are 2 places I didn’t mention where there could be an alt way to play a part. That’s one of them. The reason I chose where I did on the A string is because it’s much easier to get the pinch harmonics on the D as opposed to A string at end of solo section. But as stated until we see Nuno play it live, we won’t know for sure. Watch for vids from the MOR cruise soon. 👍
I find it odd that Beato thinks he’s picking this…maybe it’s just because Rick is more of a jazz cat and less of a shredding “purist”. He’s DEFINITELY not picking this. Nuno has a great handle on the palm muted legato technique…always has. Palm muted legato has this brilliant illusion of sounding very, VERY picked. But it’s not…that hard transient sound comes from a reasonably hard palm mute coupled with a confident, rhythmic legato. That’s not to say that Nuno isn’t picking certain notes. He certainly is…especially when starting on an open note…there’s basically no other choice. But that’s not where the bulk of *that sound* comes from. If you wanna develop that sound…just run your 3 note per string scales legato and palm mute it. You’ll notice that it sounds like you’re picking like a mental patient. It’s one of my favorite “shock and awe” techniques to bust out here and there…ridiculous, clean speed without the hassle of picking every note.
Great video! I see you have quite the collection of N4's. I'm a drummer who loves to play guitar, but I can't justify paying top dollar for the best N4. Could you recommend one of the cheaper ones? I see there are a lot of versions. I do want to get a good one, but just not for $3K. Thanks.
Thanks Gary! The N4s are priced what they are. If you're looking for a model, you can always search out a used one. The Washburn N4 Facebook group has some deals from time to time a little cheaper than Reverb/ebay. The Swamp Ash model I believe is the cheapest of the N4 models. It has a slightly brighter tone. If you're talking about the other model Nuno guitars, it's a toss up between the N24 and the N2. The N24 is the closest to the N4 but a step down. N2 is still decent for the money with a little thicker neck profile. Avoid the N1 altogether. Hope that helps!
Yes. You can hear that right in this deconstructed version here! 🙈 So we are at this point, where an amazingly skilled NB fan can play this with no delay while the Original uses whatsoever? Boy!
So; you got more N4's than anyone else I know of.... Any tips on where to buy em and what price is right? :) I saw Nuno 4 times in the early 90-ies and I had an N2 (boooo) and its time to up my game... :D
Believe it or not I know some people who have more! But definitely check the usual places. eBay and Reverb. Reverb has a couple nice ones up right now. Including a 4N. There is also a Washburn N4 owners group on Facebook you could join. People sell there from time to time as well. For a regular one these days anything around 2k is acceptable. That being said there are too many factors to consider when talking about used prices right now. If you see something you like and you’re not sure. Send me the info on it and I’ll let you know. Email is in my RUclips bio. N4 is definitely a step up from the N2. 👍
@@the_a_miller Yeah, 30 years later I do luckily have some nice ones now. Strandberg was the latest huge surprise. It sees more action than my ESP and my Les Paul combined at this point. Thanks for your input - fingers crossed I find a good N4 shortly. :)
I'm so jealous of the look and talent. ....teaches us how to play the sickest guitar solo in years while answering that age old question....what would it look like if a rockNroll super soldier of shred was created by taking jerry seinfeld and splicing his dna with that of nuno and steve vai
For me i'm actually having no real trouble with the crazy part of the solo itself - more trouble with the open strings overpowering the solo. But listening to everyone else it seems it's just part of it. Gotta just mute real heavy and live with it. Probably more noticeable when you are playing yourself all I hear are open strings lol. But definitely comes from focusing on when to pick
You have it exactly down, that muted part. And I do not agree with Rick's interpretation, he's making the pattern too complex (you are doing a slight variation which I tend to believe is the right one), and indeed it's just impossible that this is pure picking (you're being very humble and polite on that aspect, but you are definitely right). Lovely effort, and you know, the same video but with better editing would shoot you up on youtube. Thanks a lot yet again.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on that! Yeah, I’m a bit editing deficient. Will try to kick it up a notch at some point. I mostly just do IG posts, and then this thing kinda blew up, so I’ll look into it. Cheers 🍻
@@the_a_miller Also, not related to anything, but trying to play it myself with your fine tuition here, I keep thinking two things about that muted part: a) it sounds like Tool when slowed down, and b) It reminds me of some of the techniques Tosin Abasi uses when striking one string but then hammering on elsewhere, kind of a way to go economic about movement.
I will be experimenting with that in the next few days. I’m not totally sure tbh. Some people have been saying that. I recorded the cover a couple days after it came out and wasn’t even thinking about it. It was enough to just try to play the notes in the ballpark. 😂
If you ask me,,, i hear alot of Ronnie Le’Tekro in Nunos solo,,, that slo motion thing, the palm muting, the sound, etc,, if i didnt hear people raving about Nunos new solo, i would have thought it was Le’Tekro.
The whammy part on the G string is a tip of the cap to EVH beat it solo, respect right there.

It is unusual certainly, but every now and then he writes a song in a different tuning. For example “Run” is in Open E tuning. That’s whack. 😂

strings 09 or 0,10?
