Agree, true 7 months ago when you wrote this, even more so now. In my humble opinion, Hafiz, along with Watchfinder, set the standard for other channel to aspire to.
You made excellent points that even though both watches are very similar, Datejust is more of a dressier watch with a polished bracelet and jubliee is available too for this watch. OP36 in my opinion is more value for money, and here in Poland, I've found Datejust sitting on the window at AD's more often than the OP.
I suppose, having bought the OP (41mm), I'd have to say this, but I've always thought the OP was the more beautiful, the more understated, the more classy. I'm guessing if you want people to notice you have a Rolex, the DJ is the one to have, especially with fluted bezel. But the OP is a masterpiece, and I'm not really bothered who notices it. It whispers rather than shouts its quality and heritage. So I consider it a win-win: more beautiful, and the 'cheapest'! I smile every time I look at it.
Great video, Hafiz, thank you. To my taste, DJ36 is the right size. 20mm lug width, wider lugs and small bezel to make dial look bigger gives DJ36 wrist presence even for its smaller size. Plus it's historically correct 🙂👍
Hafiz, it’s awesome how you did this video, i jave seen a lot about this model but nobody have suceesed tour way, it’s detailed without being boring and it says everything we must know. Thanks a lot for the efforts you do. 👍
The first shot already tips me in favor of the OP. The Text at the 12 is actually appropriately sized, unlike the DJ's oversized and superfluous amount of text, and the discrepancy with the text at the 6 is even more out of whack by making is even smaller in comparison to the OP's at 6. Great video, analysis and shots as always!
I finally got my black dial oyster dome bezel. I initially wanted the typical fluted bezel/jubilee but opted in for this one and it’s the best decision I ever made
Watch makers and buyers have been moving towards bigger and bigger diameter watches. It’s good to see Rolex still offers the DJ and OP in the classic 36mm size. It is especially suitable for wrists 7 inches or smaller and a great size for a daily wear watch
watch makers will continue to play the size game forever. next year 36 is too small, the following year it isn't . that's how Rolex survives. consumption. they need you to keep buying watches.
Excellent review! enjoyed every minute of it and most importantly has made my mind up for when i am ready. It will be the OP. The content of your video and quality of your review leaves no doubts if your on the fence.. You have a new sub
Another great video. Thank you for the high quality of production and in-depth comparisons. These were really close comparison given that the DJ has domed bezel and oyster bracelet to match the offering of the OP. In this market, I expect most buyers will choose whichever is available at their AD although I must say the blue sunburst on both is reason to choose the blue vs. another color: it looks as good in person as it does on the video. The DJ with this configuration really is a do-everything watch given the color dial and oyster/domed is more casual than a DJ with the beveled bezel and jubilee. You cannot go wrong with this one.
Love your channel and content. I wonder if it's possible to compare between the op36 and the new op41. Is it the same watch? It actually there some differences?
I don’t typically comment on RUclips but you are doing a spectacular job and I really appreciate it. I look forward to your videos and hope you keep it up for years to come! 👍
Watching your videos in a smartphone(i have iPhone XS Max)is an insult of your work , I can say this after watching it in a 60” Sony 4K HDR 2020 TV , once again thank you for you content 👏 👏 👏
I decided to take the OP. The date and the cyclopic lens disturb the overall balance and I especially dislike the polished bracelet, too delicate and flashy. Video is superb!!
The DJ is my grail which I own the previous 116234 reference but you cannot beat the value of the OP, especially for all intent and purposes is a smooth bezel DJ without the date which shaves over a thousand on the price.
Except that it only comes in precious metals which isn't really practical for an utilitarian/ everyday watch. I'd rather choose a Tudor prince date in steel
Every man's dream, and I'm curious what Rolex would do with the Explorer as the Explorer 1 is very close to Oyster perpetual and many steer towards buying one of the OP instead.
@@varunu4176 i think (and hope) rolex will start "thinning out" their horrible maxi case watches, as the op and submariner. If they did this with the explorer, i could even accept the 39mm case. The problem is how horrible maxi cases look with anything other than the bracelet.
Thanks for all videos! I will buy two OP41 for myself. My first choice is Silver/Gold and for the second I am not sure: Black, Blue or Tiffany Turqouise. Which one would you advise me to have next to Silver? I will use it with business suits mostly and I want it to be seen but I want it to be easy readable...
This video perfectly answers what questions I have in mind. Recently I wanna get either one of them, and I found the configuration that I like for both of them with the price difference of merely a few hundreds dollars apart. I'm thinking whether I want that date...
Mate I follow your channel and must say its amazing. Unlike other brands its tough to get the hands on experience with Rolex so you make it easy for us. If you can do a comparison between Black & Blue date just 36 jubilee with fluted that would be amazing as I couldn't find a single useful one. After my experience I felt Jubilee n fluted goes hand in hand but now I am confused b/wn black or blue.
Hafiz. I have a 6.7 inch wrist. Only marginally larger than yours. I'm debating the DJ41 and the 36. I've tried them both on. I'm a more jeans and t shirt and nice casual than a suit guy. I'm feeling the larger size looks a bit more sporty and casual and the 36 a bit more elegant and dressy. What do you think? Thoroughly enjoy your content and production value. Cheers.
Very tough choice between these two, though I prefer the older OP36 dial with the 5/10/15 numerals etc rather than the squares. I just think it's visually more interesting. Also I vastly prefer the discontinued white dial. Because of this, I might steer towards the DJ (in black), but I dislike the polished center links on the bracelet. Maybe a black dial on Jubilee would diminish the polished look a bit (at least in surface area). I'm still holding out for the 21420 at my AD though, but I'm getting impatient.
@hafiz j mehmood do you know if the bracelets on these 2 models are interchangeable? I want to get a 36mm OP but I want to find a jubilee bracelet for it. I prefer the no date look/function.
Great quality. I also love that these comparisons are actually useful for Rolex customers since I presume quite a few customers are really debating on which of these models to get. Everybody loves ultra rare Pateks but they are something to adore not something to buy from an AD (unless you are John Mayer ;)). Keep up the good work!
I prefer the OP over the DJ because it's the more simple watch. The data & cyclops throw the dial off balance for me. _But the fluted bezel and the jubilee bracelet?_ Sure, I would like these options for the OP, but that's not what Rolex decided.
Hi. OP is more causal for sure. Polished centre links and all polished case with rounded edges make DJ slightly more dressy. For hoodie and jeans, OP is easily a winner.
I went in to try on an OP 36 black, and left the boutique in queue for a domed bezel green dial 36 DJ on oyster. The domed bezel with oyster bracelet absolutely blew me away with its more versatile everyday wearability. The 3, 6 and 9 double markers on the OP also really put me off.
An OP with a presidential bracelet would be truly spectacular. If they then could reduce the height of the case to sub 10 mm it would be a close to perfect practical dress and sports watch in the same package. If the automatic winding would have to go in the slimming down process it would be okay with me.
The presidential bracelet is too flashy for a dresswatch and so is the center linked polished dj bracelet. The current sub 12mm height is fine. I have never had problems with the height of my dj36 and the sleeves of my suit. Don't look further If you are searching for a nice modern versatile all steel dresswatch. I am on the waitlist. What you point out is what i have been saying for years with respect to IWC watches. I believe that the design of their watches are amazing for a dresswatch but the size and dimensions are completely fucked up!
What I would like to see is something a bit like the Day Date Platinum in a 36 millimeter version with elegance added by slimness plus the loss of complications, and automatic winding, at a more proletarian price. The presidential bracelet is to me better looking than the jubilee and oyster I can simply not see why it won’t work. But the fluted bezel won’t , it’s definitely to flashy.
I went to my AD the day before thanksgiving just for this very reason, so great timing on this video. I have a DJ 36 blue dial on a jubilee and wanted to see if the cases were the same so I could order an OP bracelet to make it less formal. But with the completely polished case, and fluted bezel, I’m not so sure the all brushed bracelet would look right. Which means I’ll just have to buy an OP now 😂.
I'm waiting for the white dial Roman DJ 36mm.. its so different to anything else. I do love the OP but as a one watch for life, I don't think the DJ can be beaten
My watches are for leisure, so dont need a date- went with the OP in silver. The symmetry of the dial, two lines above and below the hands and the brushed tops looks better to my eyes.
I don't know much about watches and I like the datejust's design for the most part, but that huge magnifier over the date just looks so off, almost comical IMO, I don't understand this - most watches in a similar design just have a "normal" date window and it's perfectly fine... Other wise it's beautiful.
These 2 wear larger and look anytime better than the new Explorer, which with its aggressive taper on the bracelet makes it look so cartoonishly small.
The quality of your content is just outstanding. Right up there amongst the best on RUclips

That OP 36 is just perfect, simplicity and class at its best, at a relatively affordable price. If only you could actually buy one

Nope. Just get the DJ with a fluted bezel snd jubilee bracelet snd you have totally different pieces for totally different purposes

I think the date is cool, but i'm not sure a date complication and cyclops is worth an extra $1,400 when the watch is almost identical otherwise.
