Your content is amazing. They are by far the best videos to watch on youtube when I consider purchasing a piece. The coverage on fitment on the wrist, and wrist presence of watches, etc is very informative; let alone the awesome shots on wrist from various angle, distance, and settings. There are just too many awesome and critical details that you include, which most review videos just don't bother to. I truly appreciate your videos
This has now become my favorite watch content channel on RUclips! Great videography and information....always! Keep up the great work. P.S. My pick here would be the 36mm
I get totally immersed in your warm informative commentary on these watches. Your attention to detail on every facet is infectious. A pleasure to watch and listen.
I preferred the 36 until I tried the 41 which is really a 36. The larger indices are much nicer and more luminescent. Don’t get me wrong, I love my 36 too
Today I called my AD rep and will be notified when a black dial 41 is available. I will probably watch this video a lot more times because of all the great close ups and wrist shots, nice review. thank you
Very good points about the chamfered edges on the 36mm and the size of the dials. I own a white 36mp OP which feels about right on the wrist and also looks great. I tried on a 41mm Datejust a few days ago and felt it was out of proportion and heavy. It did not feel like a Rolex.
I have the a 7.25 inch wrist. I usually wear 38-42mm watches. But the 36mm OP is the best. I’ve tried to 41mm and it is a more significant wrist presence due to how flat the case is and also the time only dial makes the watch look bigger. The color also makes a difference. The lighter colors: 36mm. Darker colors: you can get away with the 41mm. I think the OP 41 should for wrists 8 inches+. 36mm for 6.5-7.5 inches.
Fantastic comparison video, very informative. I was wanting the 41, but after trying on the 36, it just felt and looked great. It still has substance on the wrist too. This video further confirms that for me, 36 is the way to go.
If you're not sure between two sized of a watch, as mentioned in the video, take the smaller one. You can easily get used to a smaller size, but not as much with a slightly too big case diameter in my experience.
The OP36 looks so good there. More versatile in my opinion as it can serve a dress watch better than the 41. Did you detect the same defects on the 36 dial as you did n the 41 before?
Wow brilliant review ! Thanks for mentioning your wrist span ! My wrist is virtually identical to yours and I'm impressed at how well the 41 looked ! Better than the 36 imo. Such a classic understated watch ... I usually want/need a watch with a date but the oyster perpetual has such a pull that I'm highly considering one ! OP - Suited better as a 41mm watch DJ - Suited better as a 36mm watch .

Got to try on both the 36 and 41 yesterday. You're one of the only people online who mentioned how the dial markers are beveled on every corner of the OP36. It's such a minor detail but once you see it, it is HUGE. It glistens way more and adds way more to the dial. The 36 fit my wrist better so I purchased it mainly for that reason. But the extra detail to the dial markers made me love it.
Those hour markers are simply work of art, especially when you place OP36 side by side with Datejust and Explorer 1. Each of those watches are beautiful on it’s own, but hour markers on OP just simply amazing.
Oddly enough I tend to disagree. I have both the 36 and 41 and the indices on the 41 play with light much more effectively with the flat polished surfaces on the indices creating these perfect rectangles in the light. I don’t know how to explain it but it’s a much more masculine and sporty look. If you could post photos I’d show both in low lighting where most reflective
Hafiz: this is the best review I have found regarding the size and measurements of Rolex. You have provided just the info I was looking for.. I thank you for that. Great attention to detail and beautiful camera work :)
Here's a thought: maybe you could do a review of the two plus the similarly styled, black-dialed and older Air-King to show how the two OPs are design offshoots of the AK. Btw, I don't understand the thumbs down votes on this or any other vloggers' videos. The visual and presentation quality of your videos far exceed those of other so-called "reviewers". One more time great content. I was back and forth between op36 and 41 and have decided to go for the 36. Just the perfect size in my opinion and day by day more happy with the size choice
@@silveriver9 do not be. Honestly 36 is no brain and just the classic...and it will continue to be...is just so much more confortable..I have never picked any other of my bigger watches since I got my op 36
To understand the sizes announced by Rolex, the measurement should not be made on the diagonal 3-9 but on 4-10. Thus a little of the width of the case is measured which explains the differences. Thank for this video.
What a great comparison. It makes you wonder why Rolex call them the dimensions that they do. I have just put my name forward for the Bright Blue 41. I have a 7.5 inch wrist, to use different units. After trying one on, it looked the better size for me. Many is the time I thought 39mm was too small, I now have a 39mm chrono field style watch and a 40mm diver and they both look nigh on perfect to me. Can't wait to get the OP. The essential Rolex that truly shows the form and function of the Oyster design, the bracelet has such presence, but class also. You see the Oyster bracelet before you see the watch and the full brushed appearance, for me, stands head and shoulders above a polished centre link version.
Because your wrist is quite wide, even if it has a relatively small circumference, you can easily pull off wearing the 41 and it looks good on your wrist.
Hafiz! The macro shots are amazing! What camera and lighting set up do you use? In the future can you see if you can get a Grand Seiko SLGH003 for a review and compare it with a comparable Rolex?
I have a 36mm Rolex Explorer 114270 and an Omega Aqua Terra 39mm. Both are lovely watches and the Omega and its bracelet is far more substantial and solid than the Explorer but when you wear them the Explorer is far more comfortable and sits nicer on the wrist than the Omega. You don't feel you're wearing it. I have modern and vintage Omega and Rolex and there's just something about the 36mm OP/Explorer that seems to be the sweet spot for me.
im still waiting to be able to see the new colors in person . most interested in ; 1- turquoise. 2- green. -- maybe they will be displayed in 2021 . it would have to be the 41mm for me . ~ JDS/CT . interesting video
It will also be nice to compare dial colors against of each other. I agree with 41 mm a bit louder watch. So if I would wear yellow or red the 41 mm will be even more louder. That been said, because I travel a lot to Vietnam for example, I would prefer less louder watch. On another hand if I travel to Japan or Singapore, the bigger watch probably is the way to go. I think it would be a good idea to compare watches based on country. Note that traveling celebrity chefs very rarely wear a large watch. Take Gordon Ramsey or Anthony Bourdain for an example. You can usually spot 36 mm - 37 mm watches on their wrists. That being said, if I go with red or yellow color dials, my choice would be 36 mm. I will greatly appreciate if you can make a video comparing different colors vs different regions.
Dear Hafiz, thank you for a great content. @@franclindelatorre7743 it is your preference… for me Explorer 36mm feels too small… but OP due to 1mm brighter bracelet it feels more massive on the wrist…
Rolex should have went with single hour markers overall for the OP36, just like they did for the discontinued black OP39. It would have looked much better, in my opinion. I understand why they did the double hour markers at 3,6, and 9 on the OP41 - to fill in the large dial - but I don't think it was necessary on the OP36.
My most entertaining comparison is the dial width on a 36mm day date and a Daytona. The day date dial is actually bigger! Hence the precense of a President is substantial, even though the watch is smaller.
Just wondering if you were to measure the OP 41 case horizontally (at 3-9, across the centre) at it’s widest section (minus the crown - it could be pulled out during the measurement process) it would result in a truer measurement (although a bit less than 41 mm possibly but much larger than your 39.52 mm measurement) as opposed to measuring diagonally? As an option, the measurement could be measured at the back of the watch. Ideally, this option would result in a more accurate measurement overall (including any future watch reviews). Food for thought.
My wrist size is also 6.5 inches but my wrist span is only 52mm so the op41 would look a little too big , its interesting as my father's wrist is 6.25 inches but his wrist is flatter and the span is also 52mm so watches look the same.
Wrist span has a great role to play in how watch wears. When I started reviewing, i was surprised no reviewer ever talked about it. Wrist size can be 7.5” but if span is small, the wearability changes completely. Thanks for watching
A humble opinion: we still need OP39 with its single hour markers at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock. Especially with the bright black dial. I’ll be the best happy point ever. Thank you for the amazing reviews on OPs Hafiz.
My wrist size is 18cm/7.09 inches. The 36 looks JUST too small, and the 41 is oddly JUST too big. I think the sweet spot for this style is 38 - 39mm. Rolex lost me when they dumped the 39mm with the 20mm lug width. (I would like to put a leather or nato strap on for everyday use.)
OP 36 in black and green are at the top of my list... Just hope that AD calls some day! They are so versatile, so well built and gorgeous to wear.. To me this is the ultimate "do it all" every day watch..
Hi Hafiz, you measured 39.08 for the OP41. Is your measuring between 9 and 3? And a next stupid question: Rolex sells this watch with 41mm. Why not as OP39?!
The 36 looks like a women watch on your wrist. a 38mm would be perfect. The 41mm as it is a small 41 looks really well on your wrist. I have similar wrists and would go for the 41mm no doubt.
Since it must be very close, i would assume the new 124270 explorer to be around 120g according to this OP. God that be perfect weight for my daily wear
Cheers. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad watch. Rolex are really about durability, versatility, history, timeless design, and value retention as a brand. They’re not the best watches to experience high end watchmaking under macro but the issues seen on OP41 i reviews a few days ago were honestly way beyond what I’d consider acceptable. The good news is that these issues are all claimable under warranty so if you see anything, you can always take it back to Rolex and I’m 100% sure they’d fix it. What I show is what I find, and not what can’t be fixed. The pity is that these watches at this price shouldn’t leave factory with such issues and should be picked up at QC. If you checked my OP41 blue dial review, it was mint under the macro. So I was expecting this black dial to show the same details but again I still wouldn’t call it a bad watch. It’s a beautiful watch and I would love to add it personally to my collection too someday. Thanks for watching.
@@HafizJMehmood I love the way you detailed it. I purchased a 36 black last week but was having doubts because of the price but I do like it but when I saw your video I was like I knew it lol. But thanks for your reviews I'm still thinking should I return it
Thank you for the comparison, and especially the reference to wrist span which I had not heard before. Your perspective to a 55mm span was very useful and confirmed my decision. I appreciate that detail.
On your wrist, 41 looks better. One needs small wrists for the 36. I tried two OP41s at the AD, the sunburst blue and the yellow. Other than the dial colour, they felt underwhelming on the wrist, kind of generic and bland, not what I expected, coming from sports models. The crown action felt dainty.

With a glidelock clasp.. it would be the perfect watch
My OP36 with yellow dial measures 37mm in diagonal
OP 36 in black and green are at the top of my list... Just hope that AD calls some day! They are so versatile, so well built and gorgeous to wear.. To me this is the ultimate "do it all" every day watch..
Hi Hafiz, you measured 39.08 for the OP41. Is your measuring between 9 and 3? And a next stupid question: Rolex sells this watch with 41mm. Why not as OP39?!
This is perfect , just the information I’ve been wanting. Thank you 👍
41mm op looks better on your wrist imo.
The 36 looks like a women watch on your wrist. a 38mm would be perfect. The 41mm as it is a small 41 looks really well on your wrist. I have similar wrists and would go for the 41mm no doubt.
I really like your content and video quality keep up the good work and Happy New year bro
Happy new year Hafiz. Another fantastic and informative video with incredible attention to detail!! All the best in 2021
Happy New Year Hafiz! Looking forward to your content to come!
Very thorough, great production, thank you!
A Datejust needs a fluted bezel to differentiate it from other watches in the Rolex range, the OP in particular.
Since it must be very close, i would assume the new 124270 explorer to be around 120g according to this OP. God that be perfect weight for my daily wear
Love the comparison videos! You catch a lot of details.
Any QC issues on the 36mm?
Great comparison. This helped a lot 👍
36mm OP, DJ & 41mm sub,GMT.....but maybe with OP, dial colour might be influential. Brighter & bigger?
Great arm and wrist shots
Yeah, sad that they retired the op39, really liked that size..
Hi Hafiz I've just subscribed after discovering you yesterday. I like your work!
Happy New Year , on your last video u had me thinking this was a bad watch because of the finishing
But thanks for your reviews I'm still thinking should I return it
Great video, I really enjoy your content. HNY from London.
My wrist size is between 7.25 and 7.5 inches. Which one do you guys think would look proportionally better on my wrist?
Love the 36mm is a more balance watch, can't stop wearing it
for 6 inch wrist, do you think op 36 would look better?
yes
Yes
its preference and body/wrist size and so subjective but for me 36 is perfect.
36 is the perfect balance
Great review! Happy New Year!
Excellent and detailed review. Many thanks !!!
Very few views for the amount of effort this guy puts into his videos.
Thank you for the comparison, and especially the reference to wrist span which I had not heard before. Your perspective to a 55mm span was very useful and confirmed my decision. I appreciate that detail.
What is the wrist span? Measured from where to where?
@TheUkester I was thinking the same thing.
Did you make the video yourself? It is such a high quality 👍
Of course :)
I’m fortunately or unfortunately, a one man show :)
Thanks so much for watching.
OP41 bright blue dial is the one I want and I’m chasing ... passed in the Turcoise
Amazing content as always Hafiz!
Yet another wonderful video review. Thank-you
i have a wrist size 16cm,would the OP41 be too big?
It’s big for my 18mm. But don’t take my word everyone is different. I just prefer smaller watches.
Nice video Hafiz, I found that helpful
why market at 41? 40 sounds more reassuring, balanced.
What a pair of beautiful watches
Actually OP41 = 39.5 mm in diameter
