      My theory is that this respawn queue is the reason why the rate of corruption for the respawn machine is so high.
      When someone dies close enough to the respawn machine, they become part of this queue, waiting for respawn. But if someone is illegible to be respawned they cannot exit this queue.
      But if someone that is leggible for respawn dies, they get to use the lightning lane and respawn immediately.
      The problem is, due to the many failed respawns, this respawn queue has become so large it is also stopping those that are legible from spawning. So now, to respawn someone, the machine has to be manually operated. But due to how there are more illegible people than legible, the respawn machine is most likely to accidentally respawn a different person whose physical form has changed extremely due to how long they have been in the respawn machine.

      @@fallen_angelmemesforlife9172 So what's the 'respawn gap' that Blutarch mentions on the phone call with Archibald? The size of the queue?

    • @fallen_angelmemesforlife9172
      @fallen_angelmemesforlife9172 Год назад +42

      @@exallted possibly yes, but this could also pertain to how much it takes to respawn someone.
      Think about the number of materials needed to create an adult human. Bones, meat, blood, everything. It's possible the respawn machine is taking up more material than anyone can give it. This is why there are errors, it's trying to create a live creature with what little materials it has.
      This also explains the respawn queue and why only some people are legible to be respawned, the respawn machine does not have enough materials to recreate the very complex forms of most creatures.

      @@fallen_angelmemesforlife9172 Little materials? Are dead bodies not dumped in hundreds of thousands? Archibald mentions that there’s “800,000” corpses on-site, and even offers excess hearts, kidneys, livers etc to Blutarch.

    “Longer than you think.”
    “It’s eternity in there.”
    Those 2 lines give me chills. Respawning takes 20 seconds, but in those 20 seconds, what you experience is way… WAY longer. You think it will take 20 seconds, your absolutely wrong. And when you wait for your time to respawn, it’s almost like it never comes. It’s like you will stay there for all of eternity. I think that’s describing the absolutely long ass wait just to respawn again, it’s not eternal, but it’s so long (for the mercs awaiting respawn) that it can be counted as an eternal wait. So for us, its 20 seconds, for them... The first 2 lines I wrote are the answers. Chills.

    • @hakai1014

      The Jaunt’s usage of those lines were pretty hard but Emesis Blue made that line more colder (and accurate in game)

  • @an_oracle
    @an_oracle Год назад +115

    Of all the references in this movie, I think these references to The Jaunt hit the hardest. (Spoilers for the short story)
    The short story is pretty straightforward: in a world with instant teleportation, one must be put to sleep during it, or they will experience eternity within the teleport.
    The two lines that keep getting repeated
    "It's eternity in there"
    and
    "It's longer than you think"
    Are lines said by characters who experience that eternity. The second one has a double meaning, both "It's longer than you'd expect", and more terrifying "it's longer than you can think" as in, it's longer than thought itself.
    I think that specifically hits hard in this because it's not an experiment, it's death itself. It creates this amazing existential horror of eternal death, that just send shivers down your spine. 10/10 best thing ever

    So...was the red massacre that happened at the beginning of the movie the same one that happened in Spy's Disguise? People theorize that Dell was the red engineer that went mad fighting that one Spy. That begs the question, was Spy's Disguise the precursor to this film? There was an Emesis Blue tape that appeared around the 7 minute mark, so my theory is that it was.

    I love this scene and the whole movie but it bothers me so much that there's so many mysteries. Like here Dell tells Demo that he talked to his grandfather. Okay, but how, if they're inside the machine? Was the first death different the way that they actually passed to the other side? Is Dell preventing people from seeing the other side with his bar-scene? Is this Dell the same guy who spooked around in Spy's Disguise? Is he behind all this?

      Someone above mentioned that there is something called a respawn queue. It traps your soul inside the machine and makes you go through a path that is never-ending. Think of it like a giant line for a roller coaster, except it's a second chance at life. That is why it takes so long to travel down, but it seems like you respawn immediately. However, all those souls stay trapped in there for what feels like forever, some can respawn instantly, others are trapped in a machine. That is why Dell was able to see his Grandfather, and possibly Demoman, as they were both waiting to respawn. It seems like Dell is the same engineer in Spy's Disguise, which is funny because that is also the official name of the Engineer. I don't think he's behind all this, but I do think he caused all of this. Apparently, both sides destroyed their respawn machines in order to settle their grudge match, but they probably didn't know the consequences.
