My favorate part of the song is where Alanis sings. From time to time, minutes and hours. So move ahead, while some lag behind. It's like the balloon that ride and then vanish. This drop of hope that falls from his eye.
It's a crime that so many people, even some DMB fans don't know this song. Spoon is not only one of DMB's best songs, but it should be in the conversation as one of the best songs lyrically written in all of music period.
i saw him and dave in boston, and his voice was the best ive ever heard it. It changes from night to night, depends how he feels like singing, and if he played American Baby Intro the night before, lol.
Halloween was the best song on that album. I loved the whole thing but I remember the first time I listened to that song thinking that it was one of the darkest songs I ever heard from start to finish.
Such a beautiful version of this song - still waiting to hear it at a show! I can't really even express how jealous I am of all the people at the MSG show - Spoon with Ingrid Michaelson? NO FAIR
beautiful pure art... im amazed at how without regards to the generations that pass people still become wonderful artists, writers, philosophers etc... peace to you
So sweet!!! You know most musicians go on mtv and play there most recent single. Dave goes on mtv and plays whatever the hell he wants to.. I wonder how many people in that crowd heard Spoon for the first time that day
It is a little half and half, definatly parts about specifically jesus, but its the story of jesus questioning if god is really there for him "red, blood, could dad be god?", "crosses crossed,,,forgive you why? you hung me out to dry" but the other part of the song is about an old love or relationship thats rocky. Dave is notorius for having multiple storylines in a song that clash and make it a really deep song. another intresting fact is dave is atheis but has lots of songs about god
you have to also consider at what point of the concert he's singing those songs. also, when you're playing live with a band and you've got the crowd going, a falsetto note could easily be lost. but i don't think he's lost it. he still sings falsetto during #41. "I wanted to stay, I wanted to play, I wanted to love you...etc."
they've been touring all summer with Jeff Coffin in Roi's place and have been doing a fine job playing. Roi will be always be greatly missed but these guys live to play.
This band will definitly continue Jeff Coffin is doing a great job picking up leroi's spot in this hard time. This band was meant to play and spread great music across the world. Although Roi will be greatly missed DMB will overcome this obstacle
For the people who think Dave's to big to appear as a solo artist on "MTV" are wrong. I believe he appeared as a solo artist to premote his "some devil" cd. Which was released in 2001?
I was there and ur right I was a lucky son of a bitch and I even knew it then. this is at much music/citytv/chum building in toronto in 1998 when before there crowded streets was released. I was 15 years old!
I agree. He sounds fantastic and very clear. The raspy quality in his voice is never very strong in this song in particular, but I think he's starting to grow vocally. Kind of like Tom Waits--starting out very smooth and clear and evolving into something even better. :)
@PAULOcbi hahahah yeah i get you know...i was just starting guitar when i posted that. But its still crazy how he plays and sings so well at the same time. Its a pretty hard thing to do
I would have to partially disagree with you. Consider the following songs with Dave's falsetto: Pantala Naga Pampa (MGM Grand Garden arena), the end of Save Me (Radio City Hall), and probably the best example, An' Another Thing (Some Devil studio; it's not that old at 4 years.) A lot of people say Dave is losing his voice / falsetto, but I think that if you really listen to the musicality of his songs, he's not losing it, but becoming fuller.
Ok, just cause u and your buddies dont travel anymore doesnt mean other people dont. I know nothing about their fan base, in '94 they were still up and coming, I went to 5 shows this summer, from nj and ca. Every show seemed to be sold out...if only I had a fading fan base where 20 thousand people showed up a night!!!
Ha, look at little Johnny 90's in his backwards white hat watching himself on the monitor. Completely oblivious to the amazing performance in front of him!
My god this is so good. I love his art, it's beautiful.
Oh yes! Makes my soul so happy to see another person love and appreciate this too. God bless
@@rebekahlikesmusic2723 Much appreciated! :)
This is still my favorite version of this song. Great video
This man is a magician and a poet !!!
My favorate part of the song is where Alanis sings. From time to time, minutes and hours. So move ahead, while some lag behind. It's like the balloon that ride and then vanish. This drop of hope that falls from his eye.
RIP LeRoi Moore, your sounds and the way you played that sax will be ringing in our ears forever...
Amen to that
Wow. He took what was already a brilliant song and made it even better.
Impossible not to love this guy...
Saw DMB play this at Alpine last night. First time they had played it in 5 years. It was heaven.
It's a crime that so many people, even some DMB fans don't know this song. Spoon is not only one of DMB's best songs, but it should be in the conversation as one of the best songs lyrically written in all of music period.
Hell yeah man
Thank you so much for sharing. Excellent Stuff here.
i saw him and dave in boston, and his voice was the best ive ever heard it. It changes from night to night, depends how he feels like singing, and if he played American Baby Intro the night before, lol.
Dave at his best. What a beautiful performance.
This is an astonishing performance.
i love this version... has to be one of my favorites!!
Gives me chills everytime
Halloween was the best song on that album. I loved the whole thing but I remember the first time I listened to that song thinking that it was one of the darkest songs I ever heard from start to finish.
I saw Dave Matthews on an episode of House. And he's a really good actor!
I watched that episode when it aired. Awesome part Dave played !!
This video is just cool. He's such a unique artist.
The South African Poet #DMB
you go straight to my heart..as everytime
I feel so lucky to have seen this song live. So beautiful
Beautiful, haunting song. Thank you Dave!
Such a beautiful version of this song - still waiting to hear it at a show! I can't really even express how jealous I am of all the people at the MSG show - Spoon with Ingrid Michaelson? NO FAIR
Great song! Saw these guys live in Holland. can't wait ro see them again!
Excellent video. Spoon is a classic! Keep 'em coming!
dude this is sssooo powerful its crazy
beautiful pure art...
im amazed at how without regards to the generations that pass people still become wonderful artists, writers, philosophers etc... peace to you
Awesome, I love this song, it's great full band and great with just Dave.
maybe your alittle crazy. but laughing out loud make the pain pass bye. great lyrics!!
So sweet!!! You know most musicians go on mtv and play there most recent single. Dave goes on mtv and plays whatever the hell he wants to.. I wonder how many people in that crowd heard Spoon for the first time that day
Good point
Still a pleasure to watch after all these year!!
This is just RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!
RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING!!!!!!! =D
A whole new meaning to coffee and a spoon.
Great music Dave M. Luke and Gene.

man i wish he still sounded like this
his falsetto here is perfect
awesome
@DanielLaNoue dave plays whatever the hell he wants b/c every song he creates is a work of art, there is no such thing as a bad setlist from dave
Nobody defines music more than this guy does, DMB is the shit
I realize that your comment is now sixteen years old. But, you hit the freaking nail on the fucking head.
@@NicoleMiller-ys2cf still rings true

MERAVIGLIOSO!
That was awesome last night.
Hits the same in 2024. 💋
i love this song
this man is simply a fucking genius...
Naturally ✌️
forking amazing!
Legendary
Aww. He looks like such a baby!!
95 percent of current musicians couldn't write a song on this level
Holla !!!
they've been touring all summer with Jeff Coffin in Roi's place and have been doing a fine job playing. Roi will be always be greatly missed but these guys live to play.
I want to injest this song through my soul
Ditto
This song' about breakup...it's got sadness and solace writ all over it..
very soothing actually...
Open your eyes, Dave.
Hahaha... so true! (about the American Baby intro)
Well, maybe you would think of something liek this over a morning coffee.
He sure knows better than I do... (:
This band will definitly continue Jeff Coffin is doing a great job picking up leroi's spot in this hard time. This band was meant to play and spread great music across the world. Although Roi will be greatly missed DMB will overcome this obstacle
Still going strong bud :)
Jeff and Rashan are both picking up where Leroi unfortunately left off ....
Yes.
Fuckin' amazing!
Do you know if there's a live performance where Alanis was a guest of this song? I love it with her backing vocals.
This song is sort of a first person interpretation of what Jesus could have been thinking while on the cross.
But also in all fairness, dave ALWAYS says his songs are ment to be interprated as you wish, so that is my interpretation =]
You Never Know has great lyrics. Personally my favorite album is Under The Table And Dreaming. However, BTCS has The Stone, my all time favorite.
RIP Leroi Moore =/
ha eh maybe someday you'll get to see it! you never know..
Rare song, even rarer buzz cut hair
wooow... its ridiculous how automatic guitar is to him
It's crazy cool
For the people who think Dave's to big to appear as a solo artist on "MTV" are wrong. I believe he appeared as a solo artist to premote his "some devil" cd. Which was released in 2001?
Some Devil was released in 2003. Respectively.
I was there and ur right I was a lucky son of a bitch and I even knew it then. this is at much music/citytv/chum building in toronto in 1998 when before there crowded streets was released. I was 15 years old!

dave should totally doa buzzcut all the time
@Roose63 The song is about jesus:
"Could Dad be God/ Crosses cross hung out like a wet rag/ Forgive you why
You hung me out to dry"
wait....what?
oh my word.
nah he still looks rather young in this...i would say this was to promote the album it came from
Where did you see Spoon with Tim Reynolds? Would love to see that
the original version on the cd is awesome...duet with alanis morrissette. check it out if you haven't.
lmfao nice. does anyone know what year this is from
@PAULOcbi hahahah yeah i get you know...i was just starting guitar when i posted that. But its still crazy how he plays and sings so well at the same time. Its a pretty hard thing to do
And thus the name reveals itself ;-)

Your ineptitude at searching doesn't matter to anyone else here.
what's guitar?
ohhh ok thanks
I don't believe this was on MTV. I think it was aired on a TV show called "TOOMUCH" or somthing. Which is based in Canada.
@DancingBear1991 hahahah yeah he looks like hes straight from The Hills Have Eyes.
@luvdahay420 - Agreed!
What about4 the magnificence of Bela's solo? It topped off perfection like a gas tank already on full. Breathe.
2003
figures, the length of the vid is 4:20

In the intro/main riff it kind of sounds like a zepplin song.
Are you referring to the Zeppelin tune, Tangerine ?
when was this?
