      You do know a lot of criminal organizations have been found to use sites like betway to rinse their money right? I’m pretty sure betway even got fined 11million for not checking the proof of funds or source of the bets that ended up being from criminal transactions. Idk if he himself is trying to make a profit but he could be having friends or others place bets to improve his hometown or look after his family. The look isn’t good especially when there are random blips of massive bets being taken out for him to get a yellow with most of them being from his hometown. To be honest it’s not surprising if it’s true and there should be no place to bet on these things since it’s far to easy and likely to have a player actually ensure the line hits.

    • @FindingLemo
      @FindingLemo 23 дня назад +1

      You think he wasn't throwing matches cause the big betting companies would pick up on it, despite the fact that there's countless of unofficial criminal organisations that offer bets and he wasn't somehow "persuaded" to get a yellow in a match. More than likely, only offence is he was caught out for it.
      Expect a massive ban.

    • @ericlarson5398
      @ericlarson5398 23 дня назад +17

      @@FindingLemo the whole reason this investigation started was because a organization noticed a large sum being placed on a legal gambling service in his hometown. And the big betting companies wouldn’t pick up on it because most of the time they don’t care. That’s why they have been found to not care when millions are placed through their sights from criminal organizations and they don’t do their due diligence. One site got fine 11 million because they didnt check since to them it only matters if the bet hits. If it misses they dont care cause they get their money.

    This is the third case of a Premier League player being accused of betting within a very short space of time. A similar thing happened in cricket and almost certainly still occurs. It’s more lucrative due to wages being lower but those who were caught got bans between 4 and 10 years. They were caught out by a journalist approaching them with concrete evidence. I’m sure this will be harder to prove and he will fight it but a huge ban is deserved. It bring huge detriment on the game.

    As a west ham fan im not sure which way itll go. On the one hand paqueta is known for being very physical and kinda dirty in his challenges, so its hard to say hes looking for yellow when he always plays that way. On the other hand, I imagine that the sort of person that would mess around with betting scandals is the sort of person who would do whatever to win - exactly like paqueta. Whichever way it goes I'll be glad to have watched his tricks and flicks for a year or so

    I'm not sure if it's worse than the other cases. Here in Brazil, the media have already talked a lot about this case for hours and days.
    I don't trust my memory 100%, but it seems that the other cases are worse because the players did bet and profited. So the worst part of the punishment isn't about manipulation per se, but the fact that they shouldn't have bet.
    Paqueta did not bet. They started the investigation because a friend or family member that lives in Brazil put a big bet on him getting the card. They will have to prove that Paqueta contacted family and friends and told them he was going to get a yellow card. Proving it just through videos is difficult, only by going into his mind would it be possible to prove that he did it on purpose, otherwise it's just an assumption.
    If they punish him just with the video, other players will have to ask their friends to stop betting, because something suspicious could happen by coincidence and cause problems.
    If he is banned from the Premier League but not from football, Flamengo will have its doors open for him to return. It would be ideal for him to return together with Vinicius Jr to reprise the attacking duo, but he alone would be a reinforcement.

    The only issue with betting on your own team to win would be that they can say you can speak to the other team to potentially not play as well so your team wins. Incredibly situational and unlikely but that'll be the reason you're not allowed to do this. Even if you bet on other teams to win in other leagues etc (That aren't playing your own team). It's the same principal I guess

    Very good video did miss a couple points however, the fa launched the investigation 8 months and 4 weeks ago, this means they had till the end of this week to submit the charges. Aswell as this paquetas lawyers last week were threatening to sue the fa as it blocked the move to man city so he was suing for lack of earnings, he could not do this if the fa charged. Thirdly over 6 monhs ago the Brazilian FA in relation with FIFA dropped the charges. And it is very difficult to prove, it may look obvious but since the ban is so long it means irrefutable evedence is needed. Also from watching west ham games and even the brazil vs england game paqueta consistantly plays like he has road rage its not just the 4 games shown ebery time he steps on the pitch he wants to chase the ball down and bulldose through people.

  • @schwiftyschwimmer

    Betting has ruined sports and the problem will only get more pervasive. The point of professional sports is for players and teams to compete at the highest level. Adding gambling to the equation completely undermines that concept. It’s time for people to stop acting like sports betting is separate from the playing of the sports itself. You have players being verbally harassed online for missing parlays or over/unders. You have players purposefully altering their game to win bets. You can’t even watch a game in any sport where you don’t see some kind of betting sponsor. This isn’t harmless fun, the truth is that sports betting, just like every other type of betting, is set up for the bookies to make money, and the actual integrity of the sport itself is of no importance to them.

    Thing is though, the guy who got 10 years made a bet himself. He directly made money from it. In Paqueta's case they must first prove IF the cards are forced, secondly IF he bet on it himself(in order to give the max penalty), thirdly IF he himself gave other persons the thumbs up to bet(to get a major punishment) and lastly if he himself made money from this. As it seems there's no actual proof of Paqueta making any bets at all himself. Also no proof of him having told people to bet on these matches.
    So actually stating him to be effed is a bit too sensational at this stage. From a neutral standpoint this should be a minor infraction as the likes of Toney and Tonali actually themselves was betting. As I understand they have nothing on Paqueta in that department.
    So I am myself not judging Paqueta to anything but raising an eyebrow. And we should also then ask ourselves why there even is the possibility of betting on players receiving a card in the first place. How about revoking the licenses for betting-firms actually allowing those kind of bets? Because they look insignificant and can be altered by individuals.
    So many aspects in this question but the main target is malplaced af imho as this should not be bettable in any sense what so ever. The same with throw-ins, goalkicks, freekicks, cornerkicks and other stupidities that you can bet on. All the latter can be, and have probably also been, tampered with by officials. Start by limiting betting-companies' ways of influencing the game for their benefit. I do believe they're a greater threat to the sport than the players themselves. Betting's turnover is far greater than all of the Big leagues put together.

    That's not true. They ban this because players have insider information that no one else has access to, sometimes not even the odds makers but definitely not the average fans. Imagine you know that Harry Kane's dog died this week and he has missed nearly every practice and has been sad, you only know this because one of your former teammates is now on Bayern and knows Kane personally. You bet on Harry Kane to not score a goal. That's unfair to everyone else except the athletes.
    For this same reason, it should not be legal for NFL athletes to bet on college football here in the USA either.
