Dude, thank you so much. Especially for explaining it so simply and not like everyone’s a damn Nashville session musician already. I’ve been through a ton of videos of guys just running through the concept in unnecessarily difficult ways. Again, a thousand thank yous!
Me too, my only gripe is the mixture of note names, intervals and fret positions. Maybe it’s me but I think fret positions is like painting by numbers.
I'm twelve years old and have playing guitar for a little over a year now. You have helped me so much and now i'm able to play blackbird, stairway to heaven, and different solos such as, Knockin on Heavens Door(G n' R), Sweet Child o' Mine Opening Riff, and Patience to name a few(I do love me some Guns n' Roses solos!) You have helped me so much and have made my dad envy how easy it is to learn songs now a days. I'm traveling Europe and Asia and had to leave my guitars, but got a 1/4 guitar to travel with and have progressed so much on that! You inspired me to buy my ukulele and experiment with new ideas. I wish your channel the best of luck. Next purchase of mine, a mandolin!
Mind DOUBLE BLOWN. After 5 years of teaching myself and playing major pentatonic scales, I just realized theres a D shape in the top corner of A rooted major pentatonic scale
Yeah, it’s really about knowing what chord tones are underneath you at any given moment and when to not let a major third ring out. It’s often a lot of fun in a progression like this to let the major third lead into the minor third or vice versa. Minor third into major third into tonic (E here) can sound jazzy or even country if you keep doing it haha
The topic of avoiding the maj3 really throws me off as it goes against the grain of other lessons I encountered. Maybe is just based on this specific scenario and the specific chords been used. As a beginner I’m confused.
Cool so we can start the pentatonic shape in two different locations. Is this more for each chord, or the whole progression? Good tips about treating any off sounding notes like blues notes and half bend if needed.
Man 👌 I feel stupid! LOL everybody's brain works differently. Mine processes things slower than most it seems. but honestly thank you! I guess watching you from the other side of the fretboard 🤯Boom!!!! I said to myself oh my God I'm all over top of this! And you put it all in perspective thank you!
I've gotta get me an AMP. Maybe a Vox,? Dunno. Gotta get my EL G going. This is good stuff. I've been learning how to play across the guitar giving it that sound 🔥
Marty, how about a new series, "Mode Monday" What chord progressions call for what mode? What chords to add to a I IV V to get a mode sound? etc...etc...etc
Hey Marty! Got a serious question for you. I’m local here in Mission Viejo. And, I want to know who and where do you get your Guitar worked on?? I have an axe that needs some work and I was curious who you recommend in that dept... thanks so much! Huge fan! Keep rocking brother :)
Killer stuff. I think the best way to explain it is that you can play E major pentatonic (AKA C# minor pentatonic) instead of E mixolydian because all the notes in the former are also in the latter. Using different C# minor pentatonic boxes also creates some nice opportunities to pull off and hammer onto E major based chord tones.
Hi, could you please make a tutorial on acoustic Day That Never Comes by Metallica? There is not one solid tutorial on youtube :D and the song is really epic

Wonder how Marty looks without hat?
I dont have a clue.
No, Marty's full of hair under his hat. I guarantee you that.
He’s like Slash, it’s all in the hat
handsome
Waiting for the Dr.Seuss book, Guitar Teacher with Strat in the Hat.
Great lesson Marty.
Love these technique/theory videos
Me too, my only gripe is the mixture of note names, intervals and fret positions. Maybe it’s me but I think fret positions is like painting by numbers.
My guitar teacher has been trying to ram this into my thick skull for 3 weeks. The clears it up a HEAP! Thanks:-)

thanks I was in a major gutair rut thank you for getting me out of that rut.
One of the best lessons on how to use scales...works for me.
Mind DOUBLE BLOWN. After 5 years of teaching myself and playing major pentatonic scales, I just realized theres a D shape in the top corner of A rooted major pentatonic scale
All time great guitar teacher Marty Sir
Good info! That major 3rd shouldn’t be avoided at all costs though. It can be pretty useful to build tension if used at the right time.

That A note with the major pentatonic is called the Major Hexatonic scale. Or the Dicky Betts Scale.
I know I'm 5 years late to the party, Marty. But your explanation and demo jumping back and forth really opened my eyes. How did I miss this?
I think that Strat as far as tone goes gets my vote over your Red Strat.🎸🇦🇺
Really nice to be in the school of Marty! Great video.
Marty looks awesome with or without a hat, love you Marty!
You should emphasize that minor and major are the EXACT same shape. 4 frets apart. Love your channel.
Thanks Marty! My playing keeps getting better after watching your vids! Keep it up!
At the very beginning, you say the 10 - 12 box on the D & G strings work but you meant the 12 & 14th frets on the D & G strings.
2:32 Marty flex 💪
Great lesson. I took away a whole lot. Adding that 4th in the major penta. is very cool. Thanks Marty. You're still the best.
Good video. Thanks for not spending an hour plugging other stuff. That's why I still watch Marty
I see why memorizing scales is important when you start combining these scales

Marty please do a video on how to play my kind of woman by Mac Demarco!!!
Basically if it’s a major key and it’s a bluesy kind of song, you can mix major and minor using minor pentatonic shape?
Can you break down that string bend bit at 6.55-6.57?
Now I get why some of the major sounds like crap and I default back to the minor. Thank you! I get it! See that you can teach a old dog new tricks!
Helpful great!!! 👍👍😘
That would be the BBKING
Can you do some slash style lead guitar lessons?
purple haze chords btw
