I want to buy a bolt instead of taking my phone with me - but I don't want to buy a heart rate monitor cause I already have a watch to monitor my heart rate, I just want to be able to see it on my bolt during the ride.
@@SmartBikeTrainers So this is an interesting thing - I talked with Wahoo and they say it's an Apple thing that it won't hook up to the bike computer, then I talk with Apple, they don't understand (at least the person I talked to at Apple) why it can't cause the watch is bluetooth enabled, and they blame the incompatibility on the 3rd party. Thanks for covering this! I pre-ordered and adopted the first gen Apple watch, and currently have a gen 6 one, precisely because it had at least basic support for cycling workouts, when everyone else only supported running or swimming. This was pre-Strava I think, and only basic bike computers were available. The Apple watch has just gotten more capable over the years. I think I'll still rely on my Garmin as my main ride tracker and interface with my power meter and other sensors, with Strava to track. However, I like that the Apple watch pulls that data together with other activities to help me build a complete picture of how things are going.

hi, thanks for the video. where does it show the calories burned during and outdoor cycle? i used it for the first time today and the auto pause feature was invasive, and failed to capture more than 50% of my workout because of it..
question, since you mentioned speed sensor, why is there need for external speed sensor when apple watch already does it for you pretty accurately? Does that conserve apple watch battery?
It’s an additional option to record speed that can come in handy in places where GPS signal might not be as good or indoor riding using a smart trainer or a spinning bike.
This is fire. I've been waiting for this for 5+ years. Literally almost bought a Garmin bike computer right before this announcement. Very much looking forward to this update and hopefully it's accurate date. And I'm sure it will be as Apple has probably been working on this for years. Now if we could only get trail forks on the Apple Watch. But being able to add a power meter is fire.
I’ve been an iOS fanboy since the first iPhone, and other than the release of the App Store, I’ve never been more excited about an update. I was about to dive into the Garmin system too. I’m so glad they are doing this. Especially having the phone stats on your phone. All my bikes have the same mount for my phone so it’s perfect. I can’t wait.
I watched yesterday the keynote. My question is, do I really need a separate speed sensor which I have to connect? The watch itself has even dual GPS, why do I have to have a separate sensor?
You don’t need to. The GPS works just fine. However, if you are riding indoors for example and would like to connect a separate sensor to measure speed or cadence from your stationary bike, then it’s an option you will be able to do.
Friends,I see we have gone favorite apps or last opened on the right side button. Instead there is a control center. A bit of a shame, or is that still changeable ?Plus, I can't change the face of my watch by sliding

Great info as always. I have an Apple Watch Series 7. Do you see any limitations to these upgrades given a series 7? I'm assuming the series 7 will be able to upgrade to OS10.
Yes you should be able to upgrade and I believe many of these updates should show up on the series 7 outside of the motion sensor API capabilities that is only available on the 8 and Ultra.
I'm looking forward to your feedback once you've tested especially will it connect to a trainer(kicker) and read power and find ftp from the trainer in the same way that say TrainerRoad will calculate your FTP after a ramp test without an independent power meter. Or maybe this might come through the api and another app provider. Still interesting possibilities.
I’m looking forward to this as well - especially the integration of additional ftp updates in real-time. It will be interesting to see how and if the new features apply across the different turbo trainers and on platforms like Zwift. Thanks for this video update.
The developer beta is actually open to everyone for free, not just developers! Have you had a chance to check it out? I’m super curious what the power meter support is like.
Nice video Tariq. Yes I am switching from Garmin to Apple Watch following this OS release. Hoping to see Strava live segments appear and a climbpro type feature.
At this point and the information out there, seems to support most Bluetooth sensors including dual sided power meters but will only record as a single file. As for exercise bikes, I’m guessing as long as they broadcast in Bluetooth, then you should have no problem pairing it to the Apple Watch.
I was literally about to buy a wahoo or Garmin until they have announced this. I have an Apple Watch 8, but it’s lacking cadence/accuracy of a speed sensor (which as a result causes distance to be abit off). Now with this new update, all I need to buy is a set of sensors + power meter, use my phone mount with Apple Watch, you have a FULL set of cycling data. Amazing!
Is watchOS 10 enough? not sure. I own an iPhone 8, not longer supported by next iOS 17 update: will I be able to update my Apple Watch Series 5 to WatchOS 10? if I need to get a new iPhone, then perhaps I will but for sure my next watch won't be an apple, I would get a Garmin Fenix 7 pro. Also, the only advantage of apple so far is the quality of the heart rate sensor, other than that Garmin has superior physiological parameters analysis, data display, topological maps, battery, watch construction... I don't know... Watch Ultra 2 matching Garmin Epix 2 pro battery would be interesting.
I’m only waiting for them to do something with cross country skiing. Now it’s only measuring heart rate and calories. Why?? They could simply copy running and rename it cross country skiing.
As a gamer and pc builder 60 frames is more than enough, they should prioritize better graphic’s rather than more frames. I would even suggest that for a slow paced game like Zwift even a steady frame rate of 30 would work fine.
Nice review, however I wouldn't call it a giant leap since 3rd party apps could already provide this functionality and more but it's nice there being a native way which is probably more power efficient and has a better UX. WorkoutDoors still has a lot more cool feature though.
a quality which cyclists don’t often consider is ruggedness or durability. if you were doing a spartan event would you wear an apple watch? would an apple watch survive undamaged? probably not.
I’ve owned both Garmin Fenix’s and currently wear the Apple Watch Ultra. I can confirm that my experience has been the Ultra is incredibly durable! I have a very active lifestyle and employment and it’s taken plenty of hits and currently has no marks on it. My Fenix was great too but I managed to scratch the bezel on it.
Yeah, I have the ultra and have put it through the wringer for the last 8 months. It's built like a tank. I've bashed it on my bike rack, ridden 1000+ miles on downhill MTB trails, smashed it into desks and counters... nothing. Not even a scratch. Titanium man... You would have to intentionally smash a rock on it's crystal, square on to crack it. I wouldn't worry about it unless you are cage fighting with weapons.
Great video, however without Apple including native heat rate re-broadcast via atleast bluetooth to a cycle computer such as Wahoo or Garmin the Apple watch and IOS continues to be a major fail to me and will stick with a Garmin !!!
Great overview!! 👋👏👏👏Since I ride with a cycling computer, most of these new features for cycling don't affect me since I don't use my iPhone/Apple Watch to monitor cycling metrics. The one thing Apple could have have done for riders like me was to allow the Apple Watch to directly supply heart rate data to cycling computers like my Garmin 1030+. But, alas, as you said, Apple chose to deny this functionality to its users. I don't think this has anything to do with technical limitations. I think it has everything to do with the fact that Apple would rather put every employee's first born child up for adoption before doing anything that would improve the performance of a competitor, in this case, especially Garmin. The curious thing here is that by not offering native heart rate functionality, Apple has continued to make Garmin fitness watches a more than competitive option in the cycling enthusiast space. Of course, just my opinion. P.S. I was also disappointed to not see an Apple Health app for the Apple Watch. I would love to have access to these metrics on my Watch without having to use a third party subscription app like Athlytic. COME ON APPLE!!!
Definitely would’ve loved to see HR broadcasting in this update. I don’t think Apple is opposed to adding this and we might see it in a future watch or WatchOS update.
@@SmartBikeTrainers I hope you're right and we don't have to wait for Apple to manufacture their own cycling computer before we get this functionality. 🙄😳🤣

The watch does better than high end bike computers for example it shows the zone your in and automatically calculates ur fpt, bike computers need to step there game up
Don’t think that will happen. Apple pairs your watch with your phone and displays data on that. In my opinion that has two major drawbacks. 1. @@SmartBikeTrainers Does that YET word mean that we think it will ever be, do you know if that will come in with Watch OS 10??
